1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Fajr from New Jersey. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a 4c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went completely natural in October 2013 but I started transitioning to be natural, I think, in April 2012. I had been natural for the majority of my life so I wanted to go back to being natural but was having a really difficult time. Finally, my boyfriend (now fiancé) doubted I would do it because I kept talking about it and his doubt caused me to actually follow through with it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing for me going natural was learning to deal with my own texture of hair and not so much the relaxed hair. Accepting that my hair was not going to be like everyone’s on youtube whose videos I may have watched. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Right now my weekly regimen is to just make sure my hair is moisturized, by using some type of oil such as coconut oil, olive oil, or our “loving our look” regimen oil (which is posted on our blog). I try to moisturize my hair daily because my hair is dry a lot of the time. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I really do not have a morning routine unless my set my hair the night before. If I set my hair the night before my morning routine would consist of taking my hair down. When I take my hair down in the morning, I usually put an oil on my finger tips and take it down to prepare for a style. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? A daily night time regiment would definitely be moisturizing my hair before I go to bed or setting in a style for the next day and then putting my bonnet on. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do use it but not very often. If I do use it, I use it to deep condition.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I get my hair braided probably about once or twice a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb even though I barely use that. I’m more of a use my fingers type of girl. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It’s 50/50. I do protective styling a lot in the spring/summer and wear it loose during the fall and winter but it’s generally half and half. It depends on how I’m feeling. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I guess it would be when I was taking out my sew-in (tracks) and cut my own hair. This was around the time I was transitioning. So when I went to get my hair done, my hair stylist gave me a tapered cut which helped to cut off the rest of my relaxed ends anyway so it became a beautiful tragedy. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair would be keeping it moisturized and paying attention to your hair. Your hair pretty much tells you what it needs at times. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Joanna and I am from beautiful Spice Isle Grenada. 2. What is your hair type? I am type 4b/4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2010. I always loved my natural hair; I was natural all the way to my high school graduation. That was actually when I went to the hair stylist to get a texturizer to soften my hair, let's just say it did not go too well. She had me rushing to the sink to try to wash the texturizer out when she realized it was just a few minutes and my hair was completely straight so since the damage was already done I just kept it and decided maybe I should try this relaxer thing for a while. After about a year and a half I big chopped and went back natural but that lasted only 7 months because I had an event to attend and was about to start university and decided to relax again to make it easier. Then 5 years later I was missing my hair a lot and decided I will return to my natural tresses. So 2010 I big chopped again and never looked back. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? It can be time consuming if you really follow up all the things you may want to do with your hair. With school it is challenging at times since I prefer deal with my hair myself but with time being a factor I sometimes have to get it done at a salon, and that is not my preference. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Moisturize, moisturize and leave my hair alone. Pre-poo, wash, condition, herbal tea rinses, deep condition if it is a wash week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Spritz my hair with my leave-in conditioner concotion and seal in the moisture. But that is when I have an ideal week, but truth be told...sometimes my hair goes days without remoisturizing it. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Well basically put on my satin bonnet and that is it. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes I do once a year. I blow out and flat iron my hair for my annual length check on Dec 31st.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? Yes protective styles are important to me especially as a student. So I utitlize braids quite a lot. I braid my hair on often 3-5 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide tooth comb currently. I used Denman brush when my hair was much shorter. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Well a bit of both..but more so protective do, especially in recent times. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Well not much of a tragedy but getting my hair braided my a hair stylist during the process realizing that I made a mistake since my hair was not being handled the way it should have been. Only to realize when taking out the braids a month later a small patch of hair in the middle of my head was broken really bad..like 6 inches gone. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? As I am in the health field I always speak about the balance of a healthy body and achieving healthy hair. Our hair grows from our scalp and our scalp is part of our body which means that how we care for our body can affect the health and length of our hair. I believe there should be a balance, buying products and grooming your hair is essential but it is also important to take care of your body to maximize your hair health and length potential. So ensuring that we have a balanced diet, have our recommended daily intake of water, multivitamins if necessary, exercise, good hair practices and hair products can all aid in achieving healthier, lengthier hair. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Samantha Gomez and I reside in Toronto, Canada 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a little bit of 3C at the back but mainly 4A and 4B. Though my fro can look very full, I have very fine strands.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural 5 years ago. The reason I decided to cut off all my permed ends is because I was tired of conforming to social norms. I really wanted to experience my hair in it's natural state, the way God made me. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? When I initially BC'd, there were not many naturals here in Canada. So I was viewed as different. I had people constantly asking me why I cut off my hair. I felt like an outcast at times. I also found a few challenges taking care of my hair. I wasn't too sure about how to effectively moisturize it, how often to wash etc. I did however find many answers to my questions by watching other naturals on youtube. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I cowash at least once a week and deep condition as well. I also moisturize my hair each night before putting on a satin bonnet. This leaves my hair moisturized for the following day. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz my hair with water each morning to revive it from my night's sleep. If my hair feels dry in the morning, I would use the LOC method to moisturize it. I usually just use water, coconut or olive oil and a shea moisture product. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I always moisturize my hair in the night. I find that when I wake up, it is usually very soft when I follow this regime. I'm a big fan of raw shea butter so I generally just spritz my hair with water, coconut or olive oil and some shea butter. I always sleep with a satin bonnet or on a satin pillow to help retain the moisturize and avoid breakage. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? The only time heat is applied to my hair is when I go to the hairdresser for a cut. I don't ever straighten it myself. If I'm doing a blow out, I always use the cold setting on my blow dryer. I prefer my big fro to straight hair anyways lol
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I use protective styles like braids and/or twists about 3 times a year. Usually on my annual vacation (so I don't have to worry about styling while I'm having fun lol), for about a month in the summer time and a month during the winter. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I own both but usually gravitate towards my wide-tooth comb for detangling. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. I love my hair out! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No hair tragedy. I really make a solid effort to take care of my hair, ensure it's moisturized at all times and don't use heat unless required (only at the hair salon). 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize some more. Our hair is naturally dry by nature and dry hair is prone to breakage. I also recommend getting your hair trimmed to ensure healthy growth. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
