Making money via elance.com is tough if you live in a developed country because the cost of living is so high.

Fact: people want to hire someone in the US or the UK because there are no language barriers and they generally expect a better quality finish; however, when they compare our rates to those of much cheaper and equally qualified people in Asia, they can't justify selecting a UK- or US-based person.

I stumbled upon a guy who made almost $24k on elance in a month by analyzing it and coming up with a winning formula:
