My hair usually has enough products in it before washing, so I wet it down with a spray bottle and water; then section off and comb through to the ends.

I have to detangle before washing being that I have tightly coiled hair especially in the back of my head. I detangle with water and coconut oil and sometimes I detangle with water and conditioner.

I do not detangle right before I wash but as I wash I detangle.

Yes, I always detangle before washing. this step is also done while prepooing for me. I do one of two things to detangle. #1 I usually give myself a hot oil treatment with a mixture of oils - whatever I have on hand (coconut, EVOO, Avocado oil, shea, castor oil) then detangle or #2 if my hair is REALLY dry and in need of extra attention I hot oil treat and add a conditioner (Tresemme naturals [cheap and good slip] or Alikay Naturals Honey & Sage Deep conditioner) on top of that and sit for a at least 30 min. Then I detangle and twist before washing.

I'm from the Bahamas and it was very hard for me to find natural products at the beginning of my hair journey but I eventually found some places:) Yes I always detangle because my hair is thick and tends to dry out easily I think that's why I turned into a product junkie searing for products that work for my hair you know but I have to say I love to use coconut oil or argan oil those are staples I also sometimes use a conditioner as well like shea moisture raw shea butter restorative conditioner or alikay naturals avocado cream moisture reparing hair mask

I detangle before shampooing most of the time. I spritz my hair with water or use coconut oil and finger detangle.

It depends on how I'm feeling. If I'm feeling lazy, I wait til I DC to detangle. On a good day, I detangle when i prepoo using coconut or olive oil mixed with tresemme.

Apply olive oil and spritz hair with water. Comb just glides thru hair.

I always detangle first because after my hair gets wet with cleanser, it becomes matted. To detangle I saturate my hair with coconut oil, then put some olive oil and honey in any conditioner and proceed to finger detangle, then comb detangle.

No, I don't always detangle before I wash. The mud wash I use (Terressentials Organic Left Coast Lemon) also works as a detanglier. I section my hair dilute the mud wash with water in a bottle applying to my scalp and gently pulling it to my ends with my fingers.

I usually add the leave-in conditioner lots of it and I can finger comb with ease.

I been natural for a few years however, I just recently learned how to take care of my natural hair to grow it out. So I've been detangling my hair approx. 6 weeks now prior to washing my hair and I see such a big difference. I wish I had this regimen 6 years ago.

My hair is thick long nappy! LOL!I Must detangle! After a cowash using "As I Am Coconut Cleansing conditioner," I rinse that out, then i saturate my hair a lot with water, then I spray a mixture of olive oil, coconut oil, carrot oil and cantu shea butter conditioner, this stuff works wonders for my hair. I leave all the conditioner and oils in my hair, then style it. I purshase my products from a African store here in Ca. Alll my oils are pure. You can also order on line www.shadesofafrica.com or check out youtube Natural Hair, lots of info there. Oh yeh Walmart and Walgreens has natural hair products too. I hope I've been informative as well.

I always detangle before washing and co washing. I usually do a hot oil treatment (usually a mix with mustard, vatika, sweet almond, grapeseed and recently been using castor oil). Leave this overnight. Spritz with water and aloe vera juice and detangle in sections then apply another pre poo, either a deep conditioner or ayruvedic paste, mayo mixed with honey once a month for protein. Then wash and comb under the running water.

With the use of the Hercules Saegemann 100% hard rubber seamless comb and Hawaiian Silky gel activator already in my hair, all I do is Spritz it with water and detangling is a breeze.

I usually detangle slighty detangle my hair with my fingers before I wash it. Then I pre-poo my hair with a mixture of EVCO & EVOO. I use slightly more EVCO than EVOO, though. I let it sit overnight. The next day I take my shampoo & mix coconut oil with it. When I use this mixture, it tends to lather up more, but the end result is amazing. I can literally comb through my hair right after shampooing without needing a detangling conditioner!

I just started transitioning 2 months ago and I have been using Palmers coconut conditioner mixed with coconut oil. I put that on cover with a plastic cap and leave in for 30 minutes before washing. Hair seems to be softer and less tangled.

Yes, I finger detangle my hair with Coconut Oil and twist them into sections and then wash as is. Less stress on the hair is important!

On wash day I normally detangle my hair in the shower. If it's between washes, I spritz liberally in the morning and restyle.

It depends... before I really didn't see the need to but as my hair is growing I think it's a MUST. Normally, I just use water and olive oil but I think I may try some suggestions here. Thanks My fellow naturals.

Not me personally as, I have locs. But I normaly detangle my daughters(3 of Them ) hair with any assortment of cheap conditioners that I have around soley for this purpose. I just mix them up with some olive, alomond and grapesseed oil and get to work.

I have never attempted a de-tangling prior to shampooing. I have very short hair and I do not require de-tangling IMO.

I don't use one because my hair is really short and there isn't a need for one. I use a daily moisturizer.

I hardly de-tangle, but after reading this blog i realise it's better to detangle when hair is mousturised rather than combing my hair when it's dry

Short hair, quick easy detangle session with conditioner and fingers. Every once and a while a comb

I never detangle before washing. I detangle in the shower during the conditioning process by sectioning my hair. I twist the detangled sections once I'm finished detangeling and untwist and do a full head comb through in the end! I find this process to be the easiest for me!

Lovely day natural beauties,

I have to say, it is absolutely impossible to detangle my hair before washing. I am extremely tender headed and have to detangle in the shower, with my favorite conditioner, under flowing water.

Athena Gamble link

I really don't like detangling my hair, it takes up so much time, but I rather detangle my hair before a cowash rather than after because you end up pulling out your hair. First I spray my hair down with a water/conditioner mix. I separate my hair into little sections and I take my time detangling each section. Once im done with a section I twist ot up until its time to wash it out. When I wash it out I undo one twist at a time I wash and rinse that section and then I twist it back up and im done.

Yes I do detangling. I use my own detangling conditioner that I made after I shampoo or when I do a co wash. I also use is as a leave in conditioner to mange softness

De-tangling on dry hair is a disaster! I detangle when my hair is wet and full of conditioner.

I detangle using a little bit of olive oil.
