How To Make a Rhassoul or Bentonite Clay Mask For Natural Hair

Bentonite Clay
If your scalp is dry and itchy and your hair is generally dry try this blend. This mask will cleanse, nourish and condition hair; it will also soothe the scalp. It includes oils for extra moisture. I would use this as a pre-poo treatment or instead of a shampoo.

Ingredients
  • 2 heaped teaspoon rhassoul clay (you can substitute with betnonite clay), use 3 heaped teaspoon if your hair is very thick or very long
  • 1 teaspoon d-panthenol (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon argab oil
  • 1 teaspoon broccoli seed oil or carrot tissue oil
  • 15 drops peppermint essential oil blend + 7 drops rosemary essential oil
  • Aloe vera juice for thickness adjustment
Method
  1. Place all the ingredients except the aloe vera juice into a bowl.
  2. Mix until you have a smooth paste adding aloe vera juice a little at a time to get a thick, slightly runny paste.
  3. If your paste is too hard add some more aloe vera juice; if the paste is too runny add more rhassoul clay.
Application
  1. Dampen and detangle your hair as you normally would before your shampoo
  2. Rub the rhassoul paste onto your scalp, your ends and then onto the rest of your hair.
  3. Cover your hair in a shower cap or plastic bag.
  4. Leave the paste on for 20 to 45 minutes. Don’t let it harden in your hair as that may pose a challenge to wash out.
  5. Wash off completely. It is very easy to get all the clay out. It does not stick to you hair.
  6. If you feel as though you need extra washing power you can co-wash to make sure all the clay is out. Personally, I don’t do that.
Rhassoul and bentonite clay both cleanse and condition hair so you don't need to shampoo your hair or do another deep condition after this - this condition treatment does both.

Storage
This will keep for about 8 to 12 weeks in an airtight container. Personally, I would create a fresh batch each time as it will tend to become too hard. If you do store this and it hardens, add a little boiling hot water to reactivate the ingredients.
