It turns out that South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma, is a natural hair supporter and has "urged" African women to embrace natural hairstyles and avoid straightening their hair using chemical relaxers. It is true that relaxing hair is still crazy-popular in Africa but natural hair is making a comeback there as it is in the US and in Britain. The more people African girls see with natural hair, the more they will come to embrace it as a normal and manageable thing to do. Let's keep blogging and vlogging! Well I honestly thought he told the truth. For years African American women have had the thought, that in order to be accepted in society..we need to alter our looks. We even received negative comments from our peers.."Girl you need a perm" Your hair is to nappy or thick to wear like, that" etc.. We do need to embrace our own uniqueness and beauty. I used to relax my hair, hot combed.etc. Just because I thought I HAD TO!!! After the breakage, I decided to stop. I embraced my thick, full, head full of hair, and stopped relaxing. Of course, I received some comments and criticism...but ignored it. After a while I start seeing those same individuals asking me, what products I use, how I get my hair like that. etc. And now there are numerous of products being made, more geared towards ethnic hair. About ten years ago, that wasn't the case. I believe its becoming more and more accepted, which is wonderful. Women need to make sure they are taking care of their hair, whether they decide to relax or be natural. Embrace your own uniqueness, be YOU!

Yes, he did make a statement encouraging black women to stay natural......I just don't think his intentions were pure. Read the article here: http://m.news24.com/news24/SouthAfrica/News/Zuma-gets-SA-barking-mad-20121227 Comments are closed.
