Twist Out vs. Braid Out - The Pros & Cons

8/1/2014

I just discovered the below video by bargain princess
FACTOR

EASE

TIME

CURL DEFIITION

FRIZZ

STRETCH

LENGTH NEEDED

BODY/VOLUME
BRAID-OUT

Harder

Take longer

More defined curl on 4b & 4c but less on 4a and lower

More frizz

More stretched hair

Work well on shorter hair

Less body because it stretches the hair more
TWIST-OUT

Easier

Take less time

Less defined curl on 4b & 4c but more on 4a and lower

Less frizz

Less stretched hair

Need slightly longer hair

More body because it stretches the hair less

Neat twists - I find it so hard to get the ends that neatly twisted!

Personally, whether I do a braid-out or twist out I usually hide the ends in a protective updo because my ends get dry quite easily. I also find it hard to get a neat definition on the end - too much frizz!

My hair is not as long as yours. However,I've done both. And yes the twist out gave me better results. So I guess I'm a twist out kind of gal!!!!

While this is always informative, it is not always helpful for me b/c my hair no where near this thick in addition to being extremely soft and super curly/coily. But always interesting to watch.

Lucky that your hair is super soft - mine is very dry prone! I have 4C hair mostly with some 4B - a lot of hair info is very transferable but you are right that some specialized info is need in some cases.

Yeah i did a post about how different my braid and twist outs turn. They never hold as I unleash thrm maybe because I dont use gel? Or just because I have 4c hair. I have tried gel on my bantuknots but did see that big of a deference so decided to skip it because it was just sticky and didn't really give me hold. I will

My 4C hair does not twist out well. I gave up and decided to just enjoy puffs, FroHawks and afros. I rock in those.

I love all the natural styles. I just did the big chop. I'm still getting used to it.

I have 4c hair and I find that if you twist you hair with curl cream I have super defined twist on my 3 inches of hair. So I guess I'm s twist out girl...

Any braid out or twist out I do never gives me any definition, Makes my hair all frizzy, My hair is not as long as yours Heather, and its a mix of 4c /4g, for real. Not like any other hair I see on vids and pics

Not sure what my type is, been relaxer free for 4 yrs.. my hair is thick coarse and wavy haven't seen my texture on a video yet...even after I twist it out it looks like it's been relaxed or pressed!!!! Not springy or coily
