What is the Castor Oil Challenge? FAQs All Answered Here.

26/1/2013

Picture
You can undertake the castor oil challenge at any time you choose; it's not some historical undertaking whose time has passed.

What's the objective of the castor oil challenge?
To improve hair growth

Which hair types can undertake the challenge?
Any and all hair types

How long does the challenge last?
3 months

What products do you need for the castor oil challenge?
Just castor oil, your fingers and a notebook to document the changes.

What do you do with the castor oil?
Massage it into your scalp gently for 7 to 12 minutes.

How often do you have to massage the oil into your scalp?
At least 3 times a week

Can the castor oil challenge be improved?
I think so. For every ounce, 28 ml, of castor oil add 3 drops of the following essential oils: cedarwood, lavender, rosemary and thyme. These are all documented as improving hair health and growth.

I don't like castor oil, are there any other oils I can use for my scalp to get the same effect?
Yes. Specifically for massaging the scalp I recommend jojoba, avocado oil and argan oil as the best oils for scalp massage.

Where can you get castor oil?
In a health food store or on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk.

Is there anything else I should know?
Yes. Your hair has a maximum rate at which it can grow as determined by genetics. Massaging the scalp just ensures your hair is growing at the maximum rate that is possible for you. Your results will not necessarily match anyone else's results.

If you've tried the castor oil challenge please let us know how it went with a comment...

Hi Neno Natural, This challenge is right on time. Yesterday I just so happen to purchase a bottle of Jamaican mango & lime black castor oil xtra dark from my local beauty supply store. Although I am excited about the challenge, I'm a little leery about using the castor oil I recently purchased. Two weeks prior I used CVS drug store brand of castor oil on my hair focusing on my edges which are my problem areas, I stopped using it after noticing my edges were thinning. My question is are there certain brands of castor oil you would suggest we stay away from?

Hi SoulLuvly,

Use high grade oils. There are 3 grades of oil and if it's very cheap it's more likely one of the lower grades. Also, you may have been rubbing too hard or for too long: rub gently for 3- 5 minutes and if you're using essential oils put a shower cap over your head to increase absorption of the oil.

You can make a proxy of my Hair Growth Stimulator like this:

My best,

I have alopecia and I started the challenge one month ago to see if I can stimulate hair growth in the bald spots. I used 2 oz. of castor oil to 3 drops each of rosemary, thyme, lavender and cedar wood oils. In the beginning I had very itchy scalp and irritated follicles. I was advised to continue, but shampoo every four days or so with a peppermint shampoo. This helped a whole lot.

The problem now is that I find that my hair is falling out. I was told to continue because the itching and irritated follicles was a result of the scalp toxins surfacing and now the old hair is shedding for stronger, more healthier hair.

Do you think that I should continue this treatment or should I enhance the challenge with some type of other treatment?

I've been using black castor oil for 4now months daily. I've had minimal breakage and shedding.

How long do I leave the oil on my scalp. The whole day? The whole night?

You don't need yo wash it out. Your hair and scalp will absorb it.
