Co-washing simply refers to washing your hair with conditioner. When you co-wash your hair you do not use any shampoo at all.

Deep conditioner is a specific type of conditioner. It is very rich in ingredients that nourish hair. Deep conditioners are not designed for daily use.

The five main types of conditioner are:
  1. Instant Conditioners
  2. Cream-rinse (a.k.a. creme-rinse) conditioners
  3. Deep conditioners
  4. Moisturising conditioners
  5. Protein conditioners

Not all conditioners are made equal! Some are designed for daily use, others for weekly use and yet others for less than weekly use.

If you wash your hair more than once a week then you need to keep a deep conditioner for use once a week and an instant conditioner or cream-rinse conditioner to use in between.

Hi Angela,

I would say you are using the wrong conditioner - you basically need to find the best one for you. ACV won't provide all the benefits that a good conditioner will.

Go to nenonatural.com/products and check out the reviews of each product.

My best,
Heather

I would also like to know what are some things you would suggest for thinning hair. I noticed you said check out website. However, in my case I've been to my physician and in addition to a referred dermatologist and there has not been any suggestions. (My doctor is the same age as me & thinning herself, Tuh) In addition, I have heard of the natural oils but I'm scared to dish out all that money if it doesn't work😔 Let's face it natural stuff is pretty expensive and I for one don't have money to just experiment/gamble with. It would be nice to know what works "for real-for real". I know what works best for you might not works best for me. I just need to know if somebody has had thinning in the crowning and tried "X,Y,or Z" and it has been proven to work. If the oils are what you suggest then I will surely spend the necessary amount and purchase the oils. But I seriously need help because this thinning of the hair thingy is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance for all advice.
P.S.
I just started vitamins one a day, hair and skin nail vitamins, castor oil, I listen to my hair when it's time for deep conditioner I do so, and protein treatments as well. I use wigs as a protective style, sleep in a bonnet, and moisturize when needed. My ends are only trimmed when needed as well. So I really need some advice on how I can thicken my mane, please help a girl out.

Hi Cheryl,
Do you wear a wig as a protective style everyday? I only ask as I used to be an excessive weave/wig wearer. I didn't have thinning at the crown but my hair was weak. The moment I started wearing my hair in braids and then taking the braids out after a few days
(I wear a beanie hat on top some days too), I really noticed how much thicker and easier to detangle it was within a week. I think it may be down to air getting to your hair. It made a huge difference.
I can relate to you investing money into natural hair, but I think your hair becomes healthier due to the processes you use (such as braids, spritzing your hair with water, co-washing, finger detangling etc) rather than the actual products you use. Leaving your hair alone and minimal styling has also helped. My hairs condition has improved greatly in the past year. The oil that worked for me is jojoba oil. It's a light oil and is similar to your hairs natural sebum so it may make sense for you to try this oil (or olive oil if you have any at home already, then you don't have to spend any money at all).

I have a spray bottle with water and spritz my hair so its a little damp, distribute alot of hair butter on the ends of my hair only, braid my hair in about 8 braids and then I use a small amount of jojoba oil on the ends of the braids and sleep in my satin bonnet too. Hope this helps! I know how frustrating working with natural hair can be.

Hi Cherly,

I am no beautician just a regular person that's in this natural hair journey. I can't wear wigs for the simple fact they do rub my edges therefore making them weak and thin. I stop sleeping with bonnets for the fact the elastic rubbing my edges making them thin, I haven't but do plan on getting a satin pillow case, as for now I'm just sleeping with sponge rollers and no cover up. I've been doing this for the past 3 weeks and I do notice a slight difference.

Sometimes a topical treatment might not be the solution to hair loss. Check your Vitamin D and your iron levels. You could also be allergic to certain ingredients (caffeine, natural oils, synthetic hair, phenoxyethanol ...)with the crown area being more sensitive. Also, do you manipulate or scratch this area often?
