1. What's your name and where are you from?
Tangela Jones Aka NaturalRootSista. I am from Jacksonville, Florida, USA. 2. What is your hair type? 3A, 3B
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I have been natural since 2010. After years of lifeless damaged hair it was time for me to make a difference in my life. I began to do research on how to better care for my hair and body, researching the different types of ingredients to determine how they could potentially help or harm me. My findings were remarkable and impacted my life in an amazing way. I gained confidence in my appearance, which gave me the ability to talk confidently and boldly. Through my research and personal experience, I am able to motivate and encourage others. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Researching what the different ingredients were and how they could help or harm your hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep my hair and scalp moisturized daily with rich light oils: grapeseed, avocado, rice brain oil, etc. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz my hair each morning with a bottle of water and a blend of light oils as I am unraveling my two strand twist or bamboo knots. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Pretty much the same as the daytime. The only thing different is I take my time at night and massage my scalp thoroughly. When finished, I twist or I have bamboo knots all over my hair wrapped with a silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I only braid my hair at night after applying my moisturizer or oils. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I did a product review and the product didn’t work on my hair, my hair came out so hard and brittle. I had to do a ACV cleanse to strip all the product out of my hair, then I applied oils onto my scalp. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Don’t be a product junky, find what works for your texture of hair and stick with it. Keep your hair maintained with good oils or moisturizers, also take good care of your scalp, create a morning and nightly routine, and most importantly eat healthy and drink lots of water. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Misha. I am from Northwest Indiana (NWI)/Chicagoland area . 2. What is your hair type? I know that I have type 4 hair. I have multiple textures, I believe that some of it is 4a and some is 4b.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I did the big chop in June of 2012, I wanted to grow long, healthy hair and I loved the look and versatility of natural hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? At first it was difficult to adjust to short hair because I cut my hair very short when I did the big chop. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition my hair once a week (normally). My favorite products right now for washing and conditioning are from the Shea Moisture line and for styling I use the Cantu line. I normally do flat twits or Bantu knots to avoid major shrinkage. I make sure that I use a leave-in-conditioner as well as seal with oil. I like avocado and olive oil but everyone’s hair likes different things so you have to try different things so you have to try different products to see what fits your hair and your texture best. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the mornings, I apply oil to hands before taking my twists down, and I wear a plastic cap in the shower to retain moisture. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Some nights I retwist my hair with water and some nights I do not. I always sleep with a bonnet or with my hair in the “pineapple” method. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I have only had my hair straightened once throughout my entire natural journey and that was professionally done. Occasionally, I do blowouts, if I need my hair to dry quickly or if I want my hair to have a stretched look I will blow dry it, using heat protectant every time.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, I braid my hair. Braids and sew-ins are my favorite protective styles. I get my hair braided a few times a year but I am sure not to keep the braids installed too long and I keep my hair clean and moisturized while it is braided. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I love, love, LOVE my Denman brush! It has made the detangling process so much easier for me and I do not experience a lot of shedding when I use it; it smooths my curls out very nicely. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Lately, I have been trying to do one month of a protective style followed by one month of my hair loose. Living in the Midwest, I try to keep my hair in protective styles all winter and away from the cold weather. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I had one hair tragedy about two years ago. I had a sew-in with very little of my natural hair left out, and I wound up with heat damage on the left out hair. I had to cut that hair off. Luckily, I was early in my journey and it did not take long for that hair to catch up to the length of the rest of my hair. I learned a valuable lesson: Always use heat protectant if you’re going to straighten your hair or don’t straighten it at all. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize and be gentle. Make sure your hair is never dry because dry hair breaks and do not be rough or get styles that are too tight or pull on your hair or scalp. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Tanika Thomas, and I'm from Chicago, IL. 2. What is your hair type? I have about three different hair types, ranging from 3B to 3C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to do the big chop March 7, 2012. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was the wait. Once I big chopped I expected my hair to be down my back after just a few months (lbvs). This wasn't the case as I had to cut my hair several additional times to get to my natural texture. This is called scab hair. As my natural hair journey continued I began to embrace the process, the struggle, and the joys of having a TWA (teeny weeny afro). Even now that my hair is longer there is still the excitement of knowing that there is more growth to come. The key to dealing with this is to just be patient, and care for your hair. The rest will come naturally. 5. What is your weekly regimen? When my hair was shorter my weekly regiment was a lot different than now. I try to maintain my hairstyles a lot longer than a week, which is easier when I twist my hair, or flat twist it. I usually try to deep condition my tresses at least twice a month now, and use less styling products, and more conditioners, and oils. This has been leaving my hair curly, and soft. There is also a noticeable difference when I wash my hair as well. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Most mornings I simply untwist my hair and fluff. If I style with a wash n go, I typically wet my hair while in the shower, section my hair, and apply coconut oil and a leave in, the next step is to simply give my hair a vigorous shake. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? For my twist-outs I usually twist my hair in about 7-10 flat twists, and put on my satin bonnet. For my wash and go's I've started to use the pineapple technique, and use my satin scarf to wrap around the sides of my hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I recently started to use heat (every once in a while), but I DO NOT re-straighten my hair after the initial straightening. I am also very careful about high temperature. I also use several different heat protectors during the process. Although I was against putting heat in my hair, it allows me to trim my hair, as well as see the progress. In a curly state my hair shrinkage is real. I don't mind shrinkage tho because it only means that my hair porosity is on point.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I've never been that into braids because of my hair texture. Braids tend to make my hair shed. I do braid my natural hair to achieve braid outs tho. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Team Denman brush! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? When my hair was shorter I wore it more loose. Now that it's growing, and I try to keep my styles longer I do tend to do more protective styles. I love to tuck n roll my hair, and twists are always an option. I haven't done any mini twists yet, but this will definitely be an option for the winter. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I've not experienced any hair tragedies while being natural, however, a hair tragedy also brought me to go natural. In 2011 I decided to color my hair a honey blonde color. At first it seemed like my hair color had enhanced my hair, but about a week after I'd colored it, I began to notice massive breakage, and when I washed my hair my texture was abnormal. I continued to apply heat to my hair, and after about two weeks my hair was noticeably damaged. I hid it, and began to rod it and pin it up in the front where it was noticeably shorter. When I would rod my hair pieces would fall out as I rolled my hair up. I was devastated about my hair, but because it grows very fast, all the color was out, and my hair began to grow back in about 9 months. It still continued to break, but not as much as it had been breaking with the color. I hated the fact that I continued to perm it, and straighten it. After several weeks of researching natural hair, I decided to big chop. This is when my natural hair journey began. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? First and foremost it is important not to stress out over hair length, and texture. Secondly, use products that benefit the need of your hair. Thirdly, it is important to use less shampoo, and more conditioner, and co wash. I personally only shampoo once a month to clarify. I use only products that don't have silicone, parabeans, and mineral oil in them. Also invest in a satin bonnet, and/or a satin pillow case. And last but not least be patient with all stages of your journey. Learn to love your hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Denim. I am from Northwest Indiana (NWI)/Chicagoland area. 2. What is your hair type? I’m not really into hair typing but if I had to take a guess, I’d have to say I’m a combination of all three of the type 4 classifications: 4A, 4B, 4C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My last relaxer was in 2006 but I didn’t big chop until May 2010. I’d been struggling with my two textures (straight and kinky/curly) and I was completely frustrated. I stumbled up some YouTube videos and my curiosity was peaked. I had to know what my natural hair looked like. I knew the timing was right because I was at complete peace with the decision. Haven’t regretted one minute. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I think the most challenging aspect of going natural was just learning how to take care of my hair. My hair has always been thick but I never fully understood just how much hair I had and what it takes to maintain it until I went natural. 5. What is your weekly regimen? During the spring and summer months, I deep condition and wash my hair weekly. During the fall and winter months, when I’m maintaining protective styles, I condition and wash my hair roughly every two weeks. My go to deep conditioner is egg yolk, honey, and avocado oil. Love what it does for my curls. I usually stick to one of three product lines for shampooing and conditioning: Giovanni, Shea Moisture, and Cantu. When it comes to leave-in-conditioners, there are again three contenders: Yes to Carrots, Giovanni, and my homemade concoction. During the winter months, I also like to wear a plastic cap at nights and in the shower for extra moisture. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If I’m wearing my hair out, I usually just spritz my hair with a combination of water, Aloe Vera juice, and oil. Then I seal with of oil—usually avocado or castor. When I’m wearing twists, I spritz my hair and use a cream-based moisturizer. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Lately I’ve been in a bit of a lazy mood—and pineappling has become my best friend! When I retwist my hair, I usually use my water, Aloe Vera juice, and oil mixture to moisturize and then seal with butters. No matter the style I’m rockin’, I always wear a bonnet or use my satin scarf. No cotton is allowed to touch my hair at night. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I’ve probably used heat about 5 times since I big chopped in 2010—and only once have I had my hair flat ironed. A couple times I blow-dried my hair because my hair didn’t quite dry. The other times, I just wanted a quick stretched look. Heat protectant is always a must if I even think about using heat...and I usually use at least two (you could say I’m somewhat paranoid).
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No, I’ve never had braids. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I’m a fan of the Denman brush. I removed a few rows from mine for easier detangling. Lately, I’ve been relying more on finger detangling. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? During spring and summer, you’ll typically see me with my hair out. But during the fall and winter, I keep my hair in twists and other protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I have eczema and sometimes it flares up in my scalp. Earlier this year, it caused some of my hair along my edges to break off—front-left side. I have been nurturing that section of my hair and keeping it protected and moisturized. Diet also plays a big role in bringing that section of my hair back to life. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Healthy hair starts on the inside. Moisturizing your hair is great but without the proper nutrients, maintaining healthy hair or growing long hair is nearly impossible. Eat those green veggies! 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Towanda Pritchett also known as “NaturallyDVine”. I am from Mississippi but currently live in Astoria, OR. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 4b/4c. My hair is 4b in the back of my hair and 4C mostly in the middle and front of my head.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
After transitioning for 10 months, I decided to big chopped on July 25, 2013. I decided to go natural because I was tired of being ashamed of my natural texture and was tired of using chemicals that can not only be harmful to my hair, but also to my scalp. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was wearing two textures. Wearing two completely different textures was difficult to maintain , therefore, I decided that my hair would thrive better if I big-chopped. I was right. My hair has grown significantly and is in its healthiest state. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash my hair with Herbal Essence Hydration Conditioner on a weekly basis (Twice a week for wash-n-go). I deep condition my hair every two weeks with Argan Oil Deep Treatment mask and I shampoo my hair with Carol’s Daughter once a month. In the midst of that, I oil my hair and scalp on a daily basis with my own personal growth oil. I mainly use coconut or castor oil as my staple. However, before sealing the oil, I use water as my main moisturizer. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regimen is quite simple. I used the LOC method. My leave in conditioner is “Cantu Shea moisture” along with water and aloe vera juice mix in a spray bottle, coconut oil as my main sealant, and “Cantu Shea Moisture” as my cream based. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night routine mostly is using my spray bottle mix mentioned above, Carol Daughter Hair Milk Refresher, and putting my hair in a pineapple at night secured with a scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I blow dryer as my tension method to stretch my hair out when I decided to do a braid out or a twist out. Also, I flat iron my hair twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes. There is no set schedule. I usually just go according to how I feel. However, I would say at least three times out of the year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I love using the Denman brush when my hair is wet and wide-tooth comb when my hair is dry. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is in a protective style 80% of the time. I have learned that bunning, tucking, braids, and putting my hair in a high puff are the best protective styles for my hair. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Not a major one, but I did have one when I first started installing braids and wearing tight hair puffs. My edges started thinning, however, I learned that castor oil was good for repairing my edges. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair is “Water”. Drink water at least 64 ounces of water and spritz your hair daily with water. Its the greatest gift to our hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Erica King and I am originally from Nashville, Tennessee. I currently live in Phoenix, Arizona. 2. What is your hair type? I am definitely 4c with some 4 a/b areas in the back.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in February, 2009. It was time for another relaxer and I decided to fully embrace my natural curls instead. I transitioned for 11 months and big chopped on January 25, 2010. I had been natural on and off for about 10 years, but I had always gone back to the relaxer. This time, I big chopped right after I had my son (he was a few weeks old). We had also discovered my girls (2 & 4 y/s old), had severe food & nut allergies. We needed to make some BIG changes. I was obsessed with reading ingredient labels to make sure our lotions and conditioners didn't have almond oil or macadamia nut oil in them. Both were pretty popular. We started using all-natural, allergy-free, non-toxic ingredients on everybody's hair and skin. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? DETANGLING! I transitioned for months before doing a big chop, so detangling would take me hours. As my hair grew longer, it would take even longer. I loved my thick, luscious hair, but it took me a while to figure out my hair's moisture code. Thank God for YouTube tutorials and coconut oil. I starting using homemade clay treatments and Terressentials Pure Earth Hair Wash (Lavender Garden & Left Coast Lemon), after watching Naptural85's clay wash videos. Bentonite clay, along with finger detangling (on wet and dry hair), got my detangling time down to 20 minutes. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair once every 2 weeks and deep condition each time. I'm always trying to simplify my routine but I use these methods regularly:
6. What is your daily morning regimen? Right now my hair is in havana twists so I take them down in the morning, spritz with a leave-in conditioner, and that's it. I like to make my own and use Oyin Handmade's Frank Juice, or Jane Carter's Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner. When my hair is not in a protective style, I keep homemade flaxseed gel and hair butters close for extra styling pizazz! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I use the L.O.C Method to put my hair in twists for the night. I usually put in about 8 to 10 twists and tie my hair up in a satin scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use minimal heat, mostly for hot oil treatments and deep conditioning.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair a few times a year but I've been preferring twists lately. When I do put braids in, I wear them a total of 4 months a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It's normally in a protective-do -- hello chunky twists. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OMG I've had quite a few hair tragedies, one of them I documented in 2011. I burned my hair by overheating it with the flat iron and it started coming out in clumps. My hair thinned completed and I could barely style it because it kept coming out. I stopped using everything, bought an ingredients dictionary, and started checking ingredients. To remove the split ends and breakage, I big chopped again to give my hair a fresh start (2012). It worked. I started using castor oil, doing scalp massages and making all of my hair products. I learned exactly what my hair loved and what it didn't. Bentonite and rhassoul clay helped a lot so I started cleansing and deep conditioning with them. I don't use them as much anymore, but anytime I have some scalp funkiness or product buildup, I mix up a batch. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Take care of yourself, Relax and Enjoy your hair - There's not another Beautiful Crown like it on the planet. Make relaxation a priority. I've learned many times the hard way, stress can cause hair loss and keep your hair from growing. Do something everyday to relax: a few breathing exercises, a relaxing bath, even applying a hair affirmation. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Gabby from New Jersey. 2. What is your hair type? My type is a mixture of type 3 hair, majority of it being 3C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to eliminate all chemical processes 3.5 years ago. It was cheaper on my pocket and I started noticing it was a healthier decision as well. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing is and continues to be, the styling of my hair. I've come to understand finally that some styles may not work for me. It was a little hard to accept but I've managed to figure out other styles that favor my hair better. I'm working on perfecting those at the moment. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen is making sure my hair is moisturized. Mid-week my hair tends to lose moisture and become very dry and brittle. So I spruce it up with some coconut oil and shea butter. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Usually putting my hair up in a puff using coconut oil and water, as well as adding some edge control for the frizz. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? You know I've never really worked on a night regimen. Throwing a bonnet over my head and calling it a night is what I do. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do use heat every 3-6 months depending on my mood. Making sure I prep my hair very well to avoid excessive heat damage.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, I do occasionally braid my hair. Usually about twice a year, something different, protective styling. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I haven't purchased a denman brush, so at the moment I'm still using a wide tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? At one point the middle of my hair was not growing at all.. And was starting to show significantly. Not sure what it was exactly, but I started doing low manipulation styles. I also used natural ingredients to promote hair growth. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Deep conditioning should be your best friend. I've found that making sure my hair is moisturized is definitely key. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Michelle from New York! 2. What is your hair type? I have a combination of hair types on my head but I’m predominantly a 3C. I have a sprinkle of 4A at the crown. My sides and at the base of my neck is about a 3B.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I’ve been natural for well over 10 years. I stopped counting at 10. I decided to embrace my natural hair after reading Cathy Howse’s book, Thinning Edges. I started transitioning a couple of years before the book came out just contemplating what it would be like but after reading the book, that sealed the deal. I got scared that I’d lose my edges! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I didn’t have much difficulty with the transitioning phase because I would go to the salon and have them blow my roots straight. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it because that’s a lot of heat (every week). I just didn’t know what else to do at the time. Keeping my new growth blended with my relaxed hair was critical to preventing breakage. I did get some breakage from all the blow drying but I suspect it was much less than if I had just tried to style those two textures of hair simultaneously. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly hair regimen is like a religious ceremony LOL! Here ya go...
6. What is your daily morning regimen? My morning regimen is pretty simple (way faster than when my hair was relaxed!). Takes me less than 5 minutes. I usually just let the shower mist my hair a little and I fluff and go. I don’t usually find the need to re-moisturize/seal my hair daily but I will do it at night prophylactically. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night, I apply a water based daily conditioner into my hair and seal it with Jojoba Oil while also massaging the oil into my scalp using my electric scalp massager. Then, I either put my hair up in a pineapple, a loose bun or a french twist leaving the ends out. It depends on the style I’m going for the next day. I then either cover my hair with a satin scarf or bonnet. Last off, I always sleep on a satin pillow case but I wear the bonnet/scarf because my apartment is hot and leaches the moisture from my hair. Plus, I tend to find myself somehow some way over on my husband’s cotton pillowcase :-) 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? 1-2x a year I will flat iron my hair but never more than that. During that time I will use a dryer in conjunction with the flat iron. Other than that, I don’t even diffuse my curls. I just let them air dry.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I only braid my hair in 12 braids for a braid out. I don’t wear cornrows or other small braids that could potentially pull at the roots of my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I finger detangle but in the shower I will pull out my wide tooth, seamless comb to assist with detangling but I predominantly finger detangle. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? In the summer, I do a lot of wash and go’s and only protective style about 20% of the time. The rest of the year, I protective style 95% of the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My first and last hair tragedy occurred when I was relaxed. I went to a salon and streak dyed it blonde. Well, no matter how much deep conditioning I did, it broke off severely at the crown. I had no choice but let it run it’s course. My fine strands can not tolerate peroxide. Fortunately, when the new hair appeared it grew in without any problems. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Having an adequate balance of moisture and protein is critical. I see many people tout the importance of moisture but protein is just as important regardless to your hair type. Now, different people will have different requirements for protein (i.e. type of protein and frequency of use) but everyone can benefit from protein treatments as well as eating a healthy diet rich in protein. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Candice, I'm from Georgia 2. What is your hair type? My hair is in the 3 category but it's sometimes hard to determine because it's different throughout, so I have to say some areas are 3b but for the most part, it's around 3c and coarser at the crown.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I began transitioning in 2012, and ultimately did a big chop in May of 2013 (due to heat damage). I decided to go natural initially because I wanted my curls back and I wanted my hair to be stronger and free from chemicals. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing, I would have to say has been dealing with single strand knots, I hate those things! 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen depends on the style I'm wearing, but I keep it simple. If I'm wearing a wash 'n go, I'll usually co-wash and condition weekly. If I'm wearing a protective style, it's different because sometimes I go a little longer without washing. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If I'm wearing a wash & go, I will spritz my hair with a water and oil mix (usually coconut oil), to refresh the style. If it's a braidout/twistout, I'll just unravel the style and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? This again, depends on the style. If I'm wearing a wash & go I'll spritz my hair with water and oil and "pineapple" it up and apply my satin scarf. If it's a braidout/twistout I will usually spritz with water and oil and re-braid/re-twist for the next morning. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Since my big chop in May of 2013 I have used heat twice..once in October 2013, and second in April 2014. I like to go at least 6 months without heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I do. Since my big chop in May 2013 I've done box braids during the "twa" stage and I also did yarn braids a month before my one year anniversary of my big chop. And I recently did box braids again this past summer, 2014. Yarn braids are my favorite though, because the yarn is light and moisture retention is easy with them. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I currently use a wide toothed comb, but I've heard many positive things about the Denman brush so I plan to try one soon. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It depends. I usually like to do protective styles when the seasons change, like cooler months. So most of the time my hair is loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes. The tragedy that ultimately led me to big chop in May 2013. I had been transitioning well and I ended up using a straightening tool I wasn't familiar with. There were no heat settings and my hair was burned. I fixed this by doing my big chop, that was the best thing I could have ever done for my hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Make water your main beverage. 14.
