1. What's your name and where are you from?
Lauren Kent from Chicago, Illinois 2. What is your hair type? I am a 4a hair type
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I honestly went natural simply to know if I could do it; I saw it as a challenge. I was also eager to find out what my curl pattern was. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The awkward transition period. I didn't do the big chop, but fortunately for me, I cut my hair very short before I decided to go natural. And to get through the transition period, I often wore weaves 5. What is your weekly regimen? Every week I co-wash my hair using As I Am Coconut Co Wash. I wash my hair with that three times and on the final wash, I leave it in and apply olive oil on top and detangle my hair, then I rinse. After towel-drying my hair, I apply my As I Am Leave In Conditioner, then my oil of choice (usually coconut, olive oil, or grapeseed), then I finish it with my As I Am Curling Jelly. I place my hair into 8-10 braids and place a perm rod on the ends of my hair for a more uniform look. I leave that style in for 2 days, ideally, take it down and then I fluff like crazy; the bigger the better. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I simply take my hair out of the pineapple from the night before and shake and go. Sometimes I will apply a little coconut oil to my fingers and fluff my hair out. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night, I simply gather all of my hair and direct it towards the top of my head, called "pineappling" and then I place my scarf on my head, with the curls hanging out of the front of it. I also sleep on a satin pillowcase. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat on my hair every 3 months, that seems to be when I get the urge to straighten my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Technically I braid my hair, in a braidout, at least twice a month. It's my preferred hairstyle, for sure. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Honestly, both. But most times I will use my Denman. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It is normally loose. I don't normally pin my hair up unless it's in desperate need of a wash and I'm just not in the mood to wash it at the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I had a hair tragedy before I went natural. I got a relaxer at home (shame on me) faithfully, up until 5 years ago. The last time I relaxed my hair, I used a 2-in-1 color and relaxer kit. Bad news. My hair began to come out in chunks. I was beyond mortified. My hair is my pride and joy. Thankfully, I was getting my hair cut into a very short style the next day, so it wasn't too bad. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Definitely to limit the amount of heat used on your hair as much as possible. Also, trim your ends. I know a lot of people take care of their hair at home, but I found that it helps me to pay a professional to tend to my hair every 3 months, just to make sure I'm on the right path. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is LaShon Renee and I’m from Los Angeles, CA. 2. What is your hair type? My hair is a mixture of 3b, 3c, and 4a
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to go natural about 3 years ago after seeing the movie “Good Hair”. I was shocked to learn about the chemicals in relaxers so I stopped perming my hair shortly thereafter. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging part was learning what to do! I didn’t know what it meant to be natural, how to style my own hair, or even what my real hair texture was. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen is to wash and deep condition. I also incorporate hot oil and protein treatments once or twice a month. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Daily I spritz my hair with water or a water based leave-in conditioner and then I seal with oil. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I tie up my hair with a scarf or satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat to straighten my hair about twice a year and I blow dry my hair if the style calls for it.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair every summer. It’s so hot and humid in the summer the last thing I want to be bothered with is hair so I always look forward to my summer of braids. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I’m all about the Tangle Teezer and a good wide-toothed comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose but I have not retained as much length as I was hoping for last year so I will be incorporating more protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I haven’t had what I call a hair tragedy but I have had some hair setbacks. I’ve learned from each setback which has helped me and has helped me help others. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Maintaining healthy hair takes time and patience so it is important to work on developing a regimen that works for your hair and to avoid comparing your hair to others. 14. My name is Jocelyn Minta and I am from Maidstone Kent, UK. 2. What is your hair type? I have 4a/4b hair.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural on the 1st of January 2011. I watched serra2544 on YouTube and I was inspired to go natural as well. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? At the time when I began my journey, I had no idea what to do to my hair in terms of detangling, conditioning and even how many times I had to shampoo. All these were new to me because I always visited the salon when I was relaxed. I did my research and had so much information on how to handle my natural hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I moisturize my hair every other day. Prepoo on fridays and deep condition on Saturdays. I use the OLCO (Oil (Scalp), Liquid and Cream, Oil) method to moisturize my hair. I wash my hair once a month in the winter months. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depending on my schedule as I am a super busy person, I may choose to moisturize my hair or just spritz it. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I massage my scalp with the Sheabeutimia hair growth serum which does magic for me. I hate tying my hair so I sleep on a satin pillowcase instead. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat once in a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
In the 3 years of being natural, I have braided 3 times. I love to wear my natural hair. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I would choose wide-tooth comb but I love my fingers more. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is always in a protective-do for example I am doing a 3 month challenge where I do bantu knots, keep it in for a week and wash at the weekend. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My hair tragedy was during my recent pregnancy. I had serious hair loss in my crown area that I felt like chopping my whole hair off. I was so depressed that I forgot I could make a formulation that will grow back the hair. Kudos to my hubby who reminded me! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keep it simple and love your hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc). You can catch me on my
