1. What's your name and where are you from?

Hi, my name is Pililo AKA (Pamarow Naturals), I am originally from Zambia but I live in Perth Australia

2. What is your hair type?

My Hair type is 4C/B
Picture
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?

I have been natural most of my life. In August 2013, after transitioning from texturized/heat damaged hair, I went completely natural

4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I have to say the most challenging thing about going natural especially where I am (Perth Australia) was finding products and tools to use for my natural hair. Although a lot of people are going natural, there isn’t much support or resources here for us

5. What is your weekly regimen?

I try to stick to my regimen but I can truly say am a lazy natural! When am not so lazy, I co-wash my hair weekly, Deep condition & or oil rinse my hair after which I go ahead and style it in my African threading or a twist out

6. What is your daily morning regimen?

In the morning I try to keep it simple. If my hair feels dry, then I will moisturise and style it using my water and oil mixture. However, if it doesn’t need moisturisation, I simply fluff, style and go. If I am wearing African threading that week then the morning regimen may be as simple as removing my satin scarf brushing my edges and off I go!

7. What is your daily night time regimen?

At night, I like to moisturise my hair with just water and an oil. Sometimes I apply some coconut oil to my scalp and massage it. Hair in a high puff/Pineapple, Satin bonnet on and am off to sleep!

8. Do you use heat on your hair at all?

No heat for me. When I deep condition my hair I sometimes use my blower on top of my towel when my hair is deep conditioning inside to trap heat, for a more effective deep condition!

9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?

Yes, I braid my hair. I would say half of the year my hair is kinky twists, braids or cornrows. I don’t have a set schedule for braiding though. I usually do it when I want to give my hair a break or when I want to give myself one

10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush?

Wide tooth comb

11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do?

I would say 50/50. I like to try different things on my hair so I let it loose as much as I tuck and pin it

12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it?

Tragedy did indeed trike! I was getting frustrated with my natural hair so I started using a lot of heat on it. Later on someone suggested a texturiser and told me my hair would be softer and yet stay natural. Ignorantly, I did as told and lo and behold, half of my length was gone in a few months. See, I wasn’t re-texturizing my hair so as my natural hair grew, the texturized one fell off. That was when I started researching on how to better care for my kinks. And in August 2013 I cut my hair after transitioning.

13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair?

If I had to give three tips I would say: Moisture…Gentle…Patience!
For me the topmost however, is GENTLENESS! I find that no matter how much I treat my hair to deep conditions, satin scarfs etc If am rough when dealing with it, it breaks off and length retention would be but a distant thought! My ends also become full of knots and split ends.

Queen Luyando ~ Queen Of Kinks, Curls & Coils® (Neno Natural)

21/6/2015

1. What's your name and where are you from?

Luyando Handia, and I'm Zambian

2. What is your hair type?

4b/c

3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?

I officially went natural in April 2012. I didn't really think I would, but I stopped getting a relaxer because it was too much to keep up with.

4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Trying to figure out what worked for my hair. It's not easy to go from straight to kinky with no guidance.

5. What is your weekly regimen?

I tend to go with the flow. I try to wash my hair weekly, but I seldom get around to it. I moisturize 3 times a week with whatever products I have lying around. I experiment with products all the time for my YouTube channel, so I don't have many staples. I usually wear my hair in a bun, puff or banana clip that way I can moisturize it as often as I want.

6. What is your daily morning regimen?

It's usually in a bun or updo, so I wake up ready to go.

7. What is your daily night time regimen?

A satin scarf...if I remember. I typically prep my hair for the morning at night. I am training myself to massage my edges with oil.

8. Do you use heat on your hair at all?

I recently used heat for the first time since 2013. I may start doing it three times a year so that I can be sure to get a good trim.

9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?

I cornrow it whenever I wear weaves and I will have it in box braids or Senegalese twists at least three times a year. I especially love braids in the summer.

10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush?

Wide-tooth comb

11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do?

It's an even split

12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it?

I've never had a hair tragedy, but I have accidentally cut the back of my hair before.

13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair?

Do not over-manipulate your hair and keep your ends even. All of that twisting and bantu knotting will catch up to you. If you don't manipulate your hair all the time, you won't have to trim it as much and you won't run the risk of set-backs.
