1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Shalana (SHUH-Lane-UH), and I am from South Carolina. 2. What is your hair type? Mostly 4a with a tiny bit of 3c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
Well, I didn’t get my first relaxer until I was 13 (2004) so I was well aware of my hair’s thickness and length potential. I kept up with my relaxed hair until 2011, and after 4 months of transitioning I did my first big chop (currently growing out big chop number 3 from 2014). I went back to natural because I was tired of my boring, straight hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I didn’t/don’t find going natural challenging. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Depending on the week, I alternate between co-washing and shampooing. After cleansing my hair, I use the LOC method to retain moisture, and lastly I style my hair for the week. I’m really into braid outs at the moment. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Remove my satin bonnet, shake, fluff, and go! If needed, I’ll refresh my hair with a light mist of water and a light oil. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I just stuff my loose hair into my satin bonnet most nights, but occasionally I will do medium to large braids or twists and then put on my bonnet or scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, but not often. I flat iron my hair once or twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? Yes, I think braids are a great protective style. I may braid my hair two or three times within a year. I would like for it to be braided up more often, but it takes a while to do and I start to miss my hair soon after it’s braided (the struggle lol). 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is loose about 90% of the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Nope, I’ve never had a hair tragedy. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair is consistency. Find products and a regimen that works for you. As far as long hair, with health comes length. You have to be patient and not focus on the length of your hair. Protective styling and protecting your hair with a satin bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase also helps with length retention. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

The most challenging thing about going natural was loving myself in my natural state and learning to trust the process and to be patient. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen is to deep condition once a week, co wash twice a week and use the L.O.C method every time I wash my hair Bc my hair tends to get very dry. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Ashley Raye and I am from Charleston, South Carolina 2. What is your hair type? 4B
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
2 years ago I decided to go natural. I went natural because my daughter always wanted her natural curly hair to be long and pressed out like my extensions and hair. She felt that having straight, relaxed hair meant you were beautiful. So I transitioned my hair to show her how to love her hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Finding the right products to use on my hair and the maintenance. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash/co wash my hair weekly and style my hair depending on its length. My hair grows very quickly. I started out doing a roller set with perm rods/2 strand twist on the top of my hair and coil the sides. How that my hair has grown a few more inches I do mostly 2 strand twist all over. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I use my argon oil on my hair for shine and moisture. Then I use my Curls Blueberry edge control to lay my edges. A couple of sprays of my Organix Moroccan Oil and I am out the door. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I re-twist some of the my hair that had frizz using my Camille Rose Jai Twisting Butter then I use a silk bonnet at night to cover my hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? NO! Hardly never. I hate the hair dryer.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? Yes I am currently wearing my favorite style Goddess Faux Locs which my stylist calls hers Tzipporah Fauz Locs. I love them! 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide Tooth 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes it was during the gray/silver hair era. I got my entire natural hair Bleach 2x in one day and it came out horrific. My hair was green and porous. After trying everything to get that gray color my hair was super damaged. My hair fell out in the middle where it was over process. I had to deep condition and use protein on my hair b/c I had so mush chemical damage, heat damage, and my hair was in a very weak state. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? No Heat! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I'm Donyell Johnson, and I'm from Greenville, SC but currently reside in Nashville, TN. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a Mix of 3C/4A.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2012, I hated going to the beauty salon and I also sweated out my relaxers thanks to Cheerleading in high school. Plus I wanted something new. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural is the transitioning stage and then finding the right products once you're natural. It's hard trying to handle two different hair textures. Once you become natural you're clueless about what products to get for your curly/kinky hair since it's all new to you. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition my hair every week. I deep condition with coconut oil, castor oil, and Trader Joes Natural Spa Conditioner. Then after I deep condition I wash my hair with Trader Joes Natural Spa Shampoo and Conditioner. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz some water and add coconut oil to my hair. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Honestly nothing, I just make sure I put that bonnet on my hair before I go to bed. haha 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, sometimes when I do a wash n' go I blow dry my hair with a diffuser. I also flat iron my hair once or twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I do not braid my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush is the way to go! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? This is not like a huge tragedy but when I was pregnant with my daughter I was too weak to do my hair. I finally tried doing my hair one day but I got tired. I left my hair wet and kept a towel on my head for the next two days...my hair was so tangled. I spent hours deep conditioning it and it was still tangled, it took me hours to detangle my hair. After I got my hair detangled I had to cut it thanks to damage. I trimmed/cut my hair 3 times while I was pregnant because I was just too weak to take care of my hair which obviously causes damage. Thankfully all I did was drink water and eat healthy while I was pregnant since I wasn't taking my prenatal vitamins, so my hair is actually longer than what it was before I got pregnant. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Drink lots of water, eat healthy, deep condition once a week, and keep your hair moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Brittany Ingram and I'm from. Spartanburg South Carolina 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural about 1 year 1/2 ago and I originally did it due to my alopecia, hoping that by not having any relaxer on my scalp may help with my hair growing back. Then I went to a natural hair event in Japan on an Air Force base and the women there were all natural but with different styles and textures. It looked really amazing and it also gave me the inspirations and the extra push to go natural. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging part about starting was thinking that my hair was too nappy to be pretty and that I wouldn't look good with the natural styles like some other women. "I would say that, that natural look, it's not for me". Once I was able to see that I could do different styles with it, I likes it more. I started low and cut all of my hair off even all over, and once it became long enough I did some protective styles to change it up a bit (braids and twist). My hair grows really slow so that's frustrating as well. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My hair is very low maintenance. I cowash it weekly apply leave in conditioner and apply some oil (olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil) for hydration. I will deep condition it once a month and wash with shampoo once a month. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I typically spray it with a little water to loosen it up and apply a pea size of oil for extra hydration. Then I'll spray a little bit of leave-in conditioner to style it and shape it. If I add too many products to my hair it makes it hard and dry. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night in pretty simple. I allow the steam from the shower to soften my hair and I just twist it up (two strand twist) and apply a satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Sometimes If I want to braid it for a protective style. Other than that I allow it to air dry.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I love braids and experimenting with my hair. I may braid it 2/3 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I like both depending on what style my hair is in. I use my wife tooth when I want volume and I use the denman brush to really smooth out the coils. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I go back and forth because I get bored with styles really easily so 60% of the time it's natural and 40% protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes. Not too bad. It was a protective style that someone did. It was horrible and too big. I just took it out and rocked my natural hair. (Pretty simple and quick fix). ;) 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? I'm still learning about how to Maintain healthy hair but I would say education about your own hair type and listening to your hair as it responds to products is key. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Kelsie Lyn as I'm originally from Columbia, South Carolina but I currently live in Southern California. 2. What is your hair type? I have a mix of 3c and 4a hair; more 4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started my journey to return natural in 2008 when I graduated from high school. At that time, I wasn't working a lot in the entertainment industry so I thought it would be the perfect time to transition. When I had a relaxer, I used to wear my hair straight down or straight back or straight up. Either way it had to be bone straight. My mom told me one day she would give me $20 if I teased my hair and when to bible study like that and I did. That was the start of my change. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Learning that my hair was resistant. It took me about 2/3 years to learn what porosity was. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My regimen is weekly or no-weekly. I prepoo with coconut oil and massage my scalp with JBCO. I shampoo once a month and Cowash the other 3 weeks. I always deep condition and then set my hair in flat twist for elongation after adding a creamy leave-in and hair butter. During the week if needed, I refresh moisture and re-twist. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Wake up and go (I sleep on a satin pillow case so I don't always cover my hair) or if it's freshly washed or fresher, take down the twist. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Go to bed usually; if I want to stretch my hair, I put it in two low pony tails (it can go in a pineapple but because of my length, shrinkage and hair type, it over stretches and "undefines" my curls); or fresh and retwist. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Only for deep conditions and hot oil treatments. My hair is easily heat damaged.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braided it more when I first transitioned. Now I probably braid it 2/3 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? BIG PICK LOOKING wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose though for my hair goal I am going to start doing more protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? The worst would be growing out my edges that were thin from the relaxer I previously had, only to lose them again when I did a fashion show and the hairstylist kept spraying chemicals on my hair. They got pretty long too (I was pissed). 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Be patient, love YOUR hair, and give it what it needs. If you don't know, then learn. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Donna Moody and I am from North Carolina but currently live in South Carolina. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 3c-4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went Natural in 2010. My best friend talked me into going natural. After many attempts, I decided to give it a try and I absolutely loved it! It was the best decision I made for hair! On July 27, 2014 I will be celebrating my 4th year anniversary of being natural. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was cutting my hair. I had transitioned for 6 months before I did the “Big Chop”. I knew ahead of time how much I had to cut. I only left about an inch to an inch and a half of hair on my head. I was in total shock for a minute but after getting myself together, I felt so refreshed! 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen changes from week to week. I try to make sure I apply oil and water daily to keep my hair to keep it moisturized. I like to wash my hair every other week to keep my natural oils in my hair. Some times when you shampoo too much, it will cause your hair to strip and dry out because you are washing your natural oils out. This is what causes build up. Another great tip I do during the week is the following: Apply a leave-in conditioner such as Cantu Shea Leave-in. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning, I use my spray bottle to midst my hair and I apply oil. Next, I use a moisturizing product or a leave-in before I style. This helps me manage my hair better. I love using Eco Styler Gel on my edges to keep them smooth. The one I use has the argan oil in it so it keeps my hair firm but not crunchy hard. Mostly during the week, I wear a lot of updos’. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night, I take down my hair and apply oil. I use a lot of oil in the spring and summer because the weather is hot and your hair needs a lot of attention. It screams out for moisture! Sometimes with the oil, I massage my scalp. If I am wearing a twist out the next day, I twist my hair in medium sections. If I am going to create an updo’, I just leave my hair loose and put on my satin bonnet. You never know how many times you toss to and fro at night, moving your head back and forth or side to side which causes your hair to rub against fabrics that cause breakage. Satin pillows are great or my satin bonnets. The key is to always protect your hair at night. It is so important. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat such as blow-drying, a few times a year. I only try to flat iron my hair once a year. I do not want to apply too much heat to my hair because I do not want to mess up my curl pattern or cause my hair to become so damage that I have to do the “BC” again. Too much heat is not good for natural hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? As we speak, I am trying my first braid out and I am super excited about it. I am normally a twist out girl. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? This is a hard decision but I will say a Denman brush because it helps detangle my hair really well. The brush is not left with all of my hair in it. I recommend this brush over any other brush. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I wear a lot of updos! I do love my twist-outs but I am known for creative updos’. My updos’ I create are not with hair extensions. I like to use my own hair because I have a good length and can achieve any style. If I decide to use any hair it would be Marley Hair because it is similar to natural hair. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I had a bad hair tragedy one time. I kept my hair in a protective style and I just kept applying gel and water each day. Because the style required me to roll my hair into one big role, my hair became locked up. It took me hours to detangle my hair and I felt like my hair was a lot thinner after detangling. I learned my lesson by making sure I focus on my hair just as much as my styles. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintain healthy hair or long hair is to deep condition, trim ends as needed, and keep your hair moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Samantha. I'm 33 and I'm from Columbia, S.C. 2. What is your hair type? I believe my hair falls into the 4b/c category.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I have been natural all my life. My parents wouldn't let me get a relaxer growing up so I had to go without one. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was staying natural because at times I felt pressured to get one just so I could fit in like everyone else. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair every two to three weeks, then style my hair in two strand twists. I wear those for about two weeks, then do the whole process over again. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? After I wake up I usually pin my twist up or if they are old and fuzzy I will wear a beanie or a scarf to cover it up. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I usually moisturize my hair about twice a week before bedtime then I will cover my hair with a satin bonnet or scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I only use heat when I need my hair trimmed. I will do a light blow out.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I don't wear braids too much. I mainly wear two strand twists. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use a wide-tooth comb, but I like to finger detangle also. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I usually wear twists, but I will wear my hair loose for a couple of days...mainly when its close to a wash day. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I burnt two big sections of my hair with a hot comb. I was trying to straighten my hair and the comb was way too hot. I ended up cutting my hair to about ear length because of that. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keeping your ends trimmed. It really helps with the health of your hair. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Ebbie and I am from Charleston SC 2. What is your hair type? I honestly do not get into the hair types... However if I had to choose I would say I am a mix... 3c/ 4ab
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural back in 2006, I have big chopped my hair about 3 times since and cut it almost every year when the weather gets warm. I was tired of getting relaxers and wanted to see my true pattern. I loved it immediately and now I love the versatility. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Learning how to do styles that fit me. At first, I didn't know what to do, but eventually I found my way and now know what to do with my hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I use to be strictly a cowasher, but I have recently started to shampoo my hair again. I cleanse once a week and twist my hair for styling. During the rest of the week I either twist in larger twists to maintain or rock it in a puff until it's wash day again. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the mornings I take off my satin bonnet, untwist my hair and go. Or if I don't like the way the twists look, I pull it up in a puff. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At I shower with my hair out so it can absorb some of the moisture. I twist my hair after showering and put on a satin bonnet and go to sleep... Easy peasy. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I normally get my hair pressed out twice a year as this is my preferred way to get my ends trimmed. Sometimes I get it pressed out 3 times a year, but never more than that.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I haven't had braids since going natural, but I am strongly thinking of getting some this summer to give myself a styling rest. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb for me. I only detangle under the stream of running water and with conditioner on my hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. I could definitely do a whole lot better with protective styling. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, I am actually going through one right now. My hair has started to thin in the very middle where I usually wear a band for my puff, I am recovering from that by doing more twist outs and less puff wearing. I am also changing my diet, water intake, and about to start taking vitamins. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keep your ends protected and twist it or pineapple it nightly so you will have less tangling, which will lead to less shedding and retaining more length and healthy hair. Also, keep your ends trimmed at least a couple times a year. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
MelissaChanel! I'm from South Carolina, but I currently reside in NYC. 2. What is your hair type? Honestly, I have several different types of hair so just classifying it to one type would be unfair. I'm like a 3b in some areas and a 4 in others.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started my natural hair journey in 2008 after graduating from college and my stylist explaining that I didn't need relaxers. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Getting my family on board, they weren't fans at first. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair twice a week (sweaty head from the gym) and deep condition once a week. What is your daily night time regimen? I grab my bonnet and slap it on. I'm very minimal when it comes to night time care and again, I recently cut my hair short so this makes it much easier. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? When my hair was longer I would twist on blown out hair once a week, as long as I used a heat protector no damage was caused.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I tried box braids last year and fell in love, I say I get my hair braided about twice a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush?
