1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Abbie and I come from England. My dad is Jamaican and my mum is white British. 2. What is your hair type? It is impossible to fit my hair into one type as i have multiple different textures and curl patterns on my head. Mainly my hair would fall under 3C/4A. I must say i do not like this hair typing as everybody's hair is unique and there are way too many difference between each person to be able to categorise into groups like this.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I have been natural for many years. I was tired of having to keep getting my hair permed and straightened and i started to fall in love with curly hair. After stopping perming my hair i was still straightening it all the time. But i have not straightened my hair now for around 3 years and my hair is now completely free of any heat damage. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Transitioning from heat damaged hair to having all my hair healthy was challenging as dealing with two textures at once can be difficult. Also, experimenting with products is also challenging but i do find this fun at the same time. I still continue to experiment with products and face different challenges with my hair all the time. I am constantly learning, which i love 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair 1/2. Usually every 3/4 days. I co-wash and deep condition every time i wash it. Then, depending on how I'm styling it, I apply my products and have it in a style of around 3 days before co-washing when i want to change my style. I do not tend to do multiple styles between washes. I find my hair styles better after being washed, so if i do want to change my hair i have to wash it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If my hair is in a protective style, which it usually especially during winter, i simply wake up, take off my satin scarf and go. If my hair is out, i take off my scarf, shake out my hair, maybe add some product where needed and go. I like to keep my morning routine simple. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Spritz with a small amount of water, add an oil to my ends, tie in a bun on top of my head, wrap it in a satin scarf, done 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? It is very rare that i use heat on my hair. I think the last time was around 1 year ago.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, I love braids! I braid my hair about twice a year, but i don't keep to any particular schedule. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I have recently stopped using wide tooth combs on my hair. I now finger detangle in the shower. The only time a brush or comb touches my hair is when slicking my hair bad into a bun or puff, or slicking my edges. I never brush my hair from root to top. Only finger detangle in the shower with conditioner! So I would have to say penman brush because they are great for slicing back hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? During the cold, wet months I keep my hair in protective styles. I now have my hair to the length I want it so this summer I am planning on letting the fro free! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Thankfully, I have never had a hair tragedy. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturise and deep condition regularly! Also, use protective styles, and drink plenty of water. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Ashley Raye and I am from Charleston, South Carolina 2. What is your hair type? 4B
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
2 years ago I decided to go natural. I went natural because my daughter always wanted her natural curly hair to be long and pressed out like my extensions and hair. She felt that having straight, relaxed hair meant you were beautiful. So I transitioned my hair to show her how to love her hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Finding the right products to use on my hair and the maintenance. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash/co wash my hair weekly and style my hair depending on its length. My hair grows very quickly. I started out doing a roller set with perm rods/2 strand twist on the top of my hair and coil the sides. How that my hair has grown a few more inches I do mostly 2 strand twist all over. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I use my argon oil on my hair for shine and moisture. Then I use my Curls Blueberry edge control to lay my edges. A couple of sprays of my Organix Moroccan Oil and I am out the door. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I re-twist some of the my hair that had frizz using my Camille Rose Jai Twisting Butter then I use a silk bonnet at night to cover my hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? NO! Hardly never. I hate the hair dryer.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I am currently wearing my favorite style Goddess Faux Locs which my stylist calls hers Tzipporah Fauz Locs. I love them! 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide Tooth 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes it was during the gray/silver hair era. I got my entire natural hair Bleach 2x in one day and it came out horrific. My hair was green and porous. After trying everything to get that gray color my hair was super damaged. My hair fell out in the middle where it was over process. I had to deep condition and use protein on my hair b/c I had so mush chemical damage, heat damage, and my hair was in a very weak state. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? No Heat! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Tina Kelley from Houston, Texas 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is Curly with a side of Kink.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
This is my second time natural. I did my second big chop in September 2013. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural for me was understanding that most of my friends and family would not accept it. They just didn't understand why I wouldn't perm my hair. When my hair was permed it was so pretty to them, but in its natural state they didn't like it at first. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Every week I cowash, and deep condition my hair. I only shampoo it once a month or when I have product buildup. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Every morning regardless of the style I spritz my hair with a water and mixed chicks leave in conditioner mix. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I pineapple my hair if it is a wash n go, perm rod set, or any roller set. However, for twist outs or braid outs I usually just wear a bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I used heat for the first time since my big chop last week. I got a silk press to monitor my hair growth, and because I needed a haircut.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I have only has braids in my hair with extensions twice in the past 3 years. Other than that I do braid outs every couple of months. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both! When I am in the shower conditioning my hair I use the wide tooth comb to detangle. However, when I am styling my hair I use my denman brush faithfully. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I do lots of perm rod sets in the winter time, but during the summer months I love wash n go's. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, unfortunately I had a hair tragedy. The first time I was natural I got a Keratin treatment so that I could switch from curly to flat ironed hair whenever I wanted. I didn't take into account that I have a much tighter curl pattern in the back than I do in the front. When I would wash my hair the back would revert back quickly while the front stayed straight as a board. I could no longer do twist outs because the hair in front would simply unravel. After months of unsuccessful curly styles I shaved my hair off with the clippers and started over. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip is to deep condition your hair whenever you have a few hours around the house. You have to act like your hair is dying of thirst so you need to constantly moisturize it. Moisturized hair is healthy hair and it breaks less often than dry hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I'm Donyell Johnson, and I'm from Greenville, SC but currently reside in Nashville, TN. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a Mix of 3C/4A.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2012, I hated going to the beauty salon and I also sweated out my relaxers thanks to Cheerleading in high school. Plus I wanted something new. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural is the transitioning stage and then finding the right products once you're natural. It's hard trying to handle two different hair textures. Once you become natural you're clueless about what products to get for your curly/kinky hair since it's all new to you. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition my hair every week. I deep condition with coconut oil, castor oil, and Trader Joes Natural Spa Conditioner. Then after I deep condition I wash my hair with Trader Joes Natural Spa Shampoo and Conditioner. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz some water and add coconut oil to my hair. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Honestly nothing, I just make sure I put that bonnet on my hair before I go to bed. haha 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, sometimes when I do a wash n' go I blow dry my hair with a diffuser. I also flat iron my hair once or twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do not braid my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush is the way to go! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? This is not like a huge tragedy but when I was pregnant with my daughter I was too weak to do my hair. I finally tried doing my hair one day but I got tired. I left my hair wet and kept a towel on my head for the next two days...my hair was so tangled. I spent hours deep conditioning it and it was still tangled, it took me hours to detangle my hair. After I got my hair detangled I had to cut it thanks to damage. I trimmed/cut my hair 3 times while I was pregnant because I was just too weak to take care of my hair which obviously causes damage. Thankfully all I did was drink water and eat healthy while I was pregnant since I wasn't taking my prenatal vitamins, so my hair is actually longer than what it was before I got pregnant. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Drink lots of water, eat healthy, deep condition once a week, and keep your hair moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Lee-Anne Holder and I’m from the beautiful country of Barbados. 2. What is your hair type? My hair is combination type 4 (i.e. 4a,4b,4c).
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started transitioning on feb 23rd 2012 after my last texturiser and did my first official chop, March 23rd 2013 when I got annoyed dealing with two textures. I honestly decided to go natural because I felt like I literally did all I could do with my hair, relaxer, texturiser, braids, twists and everything in between. I was getting so bored of my hair and the limp texturised state it was in. I also felt that having no recollection of my natural hair, was a bit ridiculous and quite sad. YouTube also played a pivotal role in convincing me to transition. Seeing the diversity of natural hair made it a GO for me. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The stares from the public and their embarrassing questions posed the biggest challenge for me. Not having the confidence, like I do now, made it really difficult for me in the earlier stages. I was really defensive, but now I have come to accept that years of being taught that these things about ourselves are not acceptable, cannot be undone overnight. Oh, and lets not forget the daylong washdays. Sigh, but it gets better. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition my hair every Sunday. I set my style for the week and moisturize and retwist when necessary. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I remove my satin headtie, oil my palms and undo my style. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I spray my hair with a little water/conditioner mix, then retwist with my choice of moisturizer or gel. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I mostly use heat during my deep conditioning treatment. Since I’m terrified of heat damage. I’m currently trying to practice heatless stretching using braidouts.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, possibly 2-3 times a year. Last year I did yarn locs and a crochet faux hawk. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush, but modified. I’ve removed like 3 rows of teeth from my brush head. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. As much as I love the convenience of protective hair styles, I really start to miss my hair and the feeling of water on my scalp during my weekly washes. I know washing your hair during protective styling is a must but it’s sooo messy. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Thank God, no! #blessed 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My motto is “Clean Hair is Healthy Hair”. My tip for anyone is to develop and try to stick to a solid hair regimen and in time your hair will thank you for it. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was not knowing what to do for my hair. I could not figure out what products works well with my hair or how to style it. And that is why I thank God that now I have found a regimen/products that works well for me. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair bi weekly. I usually pre-poo, wash, deep condition my hair. Then I will do a braid out, twist out or Bantu knots. I make sure that my style last me a week before I re-style it. Then I will leave my hair in a bun till my next wash. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depending on how I feel I would wear my hair out or otherwise I will just put it in a bun and go about my day. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I would re twist or braid if I have have a special place or occasion but if not I would just put my hair in top loose bun. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do not use heat often. I've only blew out my hair once since I went natural.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do braid my hair once or twice a year. ( ex: Faux locs) 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I do not like using comb or brush. I finger detangle. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose but I do put it away in a bun as my protective style or faux locs. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Oh yes. Back in August 2014 I wanted a crochet braids so bad. I went to a salon to install the braids and the lady was combing my hair forcefully, my head was hurting sooooo bad. I had to tell her to stop and that I could not continue with the style, so since then I've been doing my hair myself. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy/long hair is to learn about your hair, take care of it yourself the best way you can. Make sure you eat well, stay healthy, build a steady regimen for your health and hair. And leave your hair alone. Be patient with your hair it will grow!! 14. Where can we find you online? My sister went natural and I seen her growth and was intrigued so I decided to just chop it off. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? If braid outs count, then I do those pretty often. Any other types of braids I don't do at all. Not to say I may not do it one day. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide Tooth Comb 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally loose. I may try to incorporate more protective styles in the winter. I just love my hair too much!! :) 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I haven't had one so far in these 1 1/2 years but I did style my hair one morning, hated it so I rushed to rewash it and wore it in a bun to make it to work on time :) lol 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? It's hard to give one tip. Hmmmm... I would say keeping your hair moisturized all the time. Dry hair causes breakage and split ends. 14. I went natural back in 2009. I was 14 yrs old and my twin and I decided to to go natural at the same time. My older cousin was natural and we fell in love with her hair so we decided to go natural too! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was accepting my hair texture. We I was transitioning I would other naturals who had looser curl pattern. But about a 1 ½ into my natural hair journey I finally accepted every coily, kinky and curl I had in my hair! 5. What is your weekly regimen? I pre-poo, cowash or shampoo and deep condition once a week 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning routine is very simple and easy. All I do is take my scarf off and go! 7. Once I cut off the bad unhealthy hair my hair flourished! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long natural hair is to MOISTURIZE!!! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Whitney and I’m from the Metro Detroit area. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 4a/3c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I returned to having natural hair when I was around 16 years old. I got my first relaxer when I was 7 years old. I was an athlete in high school (volleyball and swimming). It just made since to go natural since I was either getting my hair wet swimming, sweating my hair out during volleyball or getting my hair braided for convenience due to playing sports. I transitioned for less than a year before cutting my hair to about 4 inches or so. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was transitioning. Trying to blend in the 2 different textures was a hassle. If I had the head for it (lol) and the confidence back then I would have just big chopped. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I cleanse my hair with a moisturizing shampoo or bentonite clay, deep condition and style my hair weekly. I may do a water only or a co-wash with conditioner in between wash days if my hair is in need of it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I mostly just lightly spray my hair with warm water in the morning. I feel like the warm water reactivates the product that’s already on my hair. I don’t like to seal my hair daily because the buildup makes my low porosity hair very dry. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I make sure to either wear my satin bonnet, satin scarf or sleep on a satin pillow case. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I haven’t styled my hair using heat in 3 years. For the first 11/12 years of my now 15 year hair journey I did use heat to straighten my hair. I transitioned from having heat damaged hair about a little over a year and a half ago where I cut off a total of 10-12 inches of hair. So, yeah, I’m a bit scared to use heat to style my hair. I was never able to retain length passed my shoulders due to me mismanaging the use of heat styling amongst other things. My goal as of now is to reach waist length. I may try roller sets under a dryer then. I have used low heat to deep condition my hair under a plastic cap. Which is very beneficial for someone with low porosity hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No, I haven’t braided my hair but I do look forward to doing it in the future. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I mostly use a Denman brush but I first finger detangle before using it. This helps in reducing breakage for me. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Well, like I mentioned previously, I had heat damage. Many natural styles didn’t always look the best on me back then. I recovered by chopping the straight hair off. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair or long hair is low manipulation. Low manipulation styles and routines are great ways to reduce breakage so we can have that full, healthy head of hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started my Natural Hair Journey April 2013. I decided this was best for me because my hair never really relaxed. It puffed up after about a week. I wanted to try something different. I transitioned and I'm still transitioning. My relaxed end fell off mostly because I wasn't into healthy natural hair journey for about a year. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I think it was finding out for myself how to take care of my hair. I did a lot of Google searches. Google is my best friend lol. 5. What is your weekly regimen? It depends on my hairstyle. If I have braids or faux loc on, it would be the same as the daily regimen. If it's just my natural hair. It would be co-washing, moisturizing or protein deep conditioning and tea rinse/beer rinse. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regimen is spraying from my spray bottle a mixture of water, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and other oils, Aloe Vera gel and Leave In conditioner. 9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair about 4 times a year with extensions. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide tooth comb sometimes. This is when I have to go to the salon and have someone else do my hair. Other times I finger detangle. Denman brush is when I want to have slick edges. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Mostly loose. I seldom do protective hair dos. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I would say this happens everytime I try something new that doesn't come out well. I just resolve into packing the hair in an interesting style. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Oiling. I love natural and essentials oils on my hair. Oiling helps to strengthen the hair strands and prevent split ends. I use mostly Coconut Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Amla oil, Neem oil, Grape Seed Oil, Hempseed oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Tea tree oil. 14.
