1. What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Bri-Anne Alexis or Bri Classy on social media - I’m from Barbados/Toronto. I currently reside in Toronto. 2. What is your hair type? Aye aye aye, the dreaded question. I’m not really sure. I think I’m 3c/4a. My hair varies from tight s-curls to pen-spring sized spirals.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I’ve always been natural; my mother made it a very strict rule that I could not relax my hair until I was 16 (thank you Mom!) and by the time I was 16, the natural movement was already underway and I was embracing my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? For me the most challenging thing about being natural is understanding what is “normal” for natural hair. For so long, natural hair has been shunned in society and the standard was/is straight hair - so much so, that even when we try to embrace our natural hair we believe it will act similar to straight hair (piling it on your head when you shampoo, thinking you can detangle in 5 mins, using small clips or “surf” spray lol. I’m still learning what works and does not work for my hair, you never stop learning. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash once a week. I start by rinsing my hair, sectioning it into 4 then detangling it with conditioner, then I proceed to shampoo, protein treatment and then deep condition. I have a video on my old wash day routine on my channel for a better idea of this. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It really depends on what I plan on doing with my hair that day. If it’s going in a sleek bun, I use gel and tie it down, if it’s going to be open I just shake and style to my liking. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Pineapple and satin hair tie! I can’t SLEEP without a satin hair tie! (Maybe because I’m also scared of that spider-sleeping-ear thing I’ve heard…) Anywho, if it’s feeling dry, I like to moisturize at night so that it’s soaked in by morning. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I flat iron once a year or so if I build up the arm strength. Other than that, I love to use my blowdryer on it’s COOL setting when I need to speed things up - it’s not heat but it is my blowdryer!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
NO! Ahaha. I should though! I don’t like braiding my hair because it’s very time consuming and even if I get braids put in by someone else they start to itch like crazy after a week! 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I think half and half… it’s either in a bun of some sort or open in a perm rod set or twist out. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? YES! I went back to Barbados one year for Christmas and I decided that I could go two weeks without combing my hair. I went in the sea, I wore it out, I wore it in buns, I washed it… When I got back to Toronto, it was dreaded and matted! It took 3 HOURS to comb and it came out in unbelievable clumps… Never did that again. PS: I have a whole video dedicated to what NOT to do to your hair:
13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair?
My biggest tip is patience. You will need patience when detangling, when waiting for it to grow, when trying to learn a new style, when learning to love your texture, when curving people’s negative/ignorant comments, when trying to find a product you like… just overall patience. Other than that… I would say you have to develop new good habits and stick to them (moisturizing, reducing friction and heat etc). 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Kaya Tomash, (known on the internet as Comfy Girl With Curls). I am born in raised in Vancouver, Canada! 2. What is your hair type? Overall 4b, with a very small section at the back of my head being 4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I officially went natural just about 2 years ago. I had been transitioning for about a year already out of sheer laziness, and due to there being no real salon options near me. I had a week off of work, and dove into researching natural hair and how to take care of it. That week was the first time I ever consciously styled my hair and wore it “out”! (It was a twist-out!) 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Committing to a regimen and staying disciplined. I swing between being a very conscious natural, to being a very lazy natural. Whenever I get lazy, I see the breakage and swing back into taking perfect care of my hair again. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I give my hair one big wash a week. Usually this is a full-on wash day, including a pre-poo with conditioner and olive oil, a quick shampoo, a conditioner, followed by a very long Deep Conditioning session, followed by the LOC method to wrap it up. Lately however, I’ve learned to shorten my system by Co-Washing, and I’m really enjoying the cut down on time. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It all depends on how well I took care of my hair the night before. But usually I’ll give my hair a sprits of water, and lightly cover it with Argan Oil as a bit of a refresher. Then if I’m rushing to work, I tend to twist it up into a bun, or another easy updo. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? When I am completely on my game, I am doing a quick version of the LOC method every night and putting my hair into twists. I’ll spritz some water, put in a light cream, and follow it with a light oil. Then I have to make sure I’ve got my satin cap on before crawling into bed! 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Very very rarely. The only time I’d say I really use heat is during my deep conditioning process. I’ve got one of those table-top dryers you can sit under and I find it really helps me get the maximum amount of moisture into my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair just as is. In other words, I don’t add extensions or anything in as long term protective style. This is something that is on my bucket list though. I braid my hair quite often though, probably about once a month, and leave it in for about a week. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide tooth comb all the way! Although I can’t really say that much as I have yet to try a Denman brush… 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is very kinky, and especially as I’ve dyed it, I feel my curl pattern isn’t as prominent. So I hate to say I usually keep my hair in a protective-do day to day. When I have the time to prep, that’s when I’ll do a twist out or braid out and let it be free. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Luckily no tragedy to speak of. I’ve dealt with breakage and some damage, but nothing I couldn’t fix with a good protein treatment or a trim. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Biggest tip I can offer is seal in the moisture, consistently! Whenever I make sure my hair is well moisturized, and I am locking it in with an oil, my hair flourishes. It retains length, it’s soft, it’s shiny! Consistency really is key. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Dorcas also known as Curious Curls and I’m of Nigerian descent, born and raised in London, England but currently living in Toronto. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a mixture of all the type 4s. Everything from 4a – 4c. The sides of my hair are predominantly 4c, while my crown and back are a mix of 4a/4b.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My last relaxer was in May 2011 and I did a long term transition for 22 months. I big chopped in February 2013 & did a second big chop in November 2013 and sported a TWA. I went natural because I had been relaxed for so long I had no idea what my natural hair looked like. I was simply curious (thus the name Curious Curls). 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The adjustment in my regimen. I had a pretty solid relaxed hair care regimen and had to re learn how to care for my natural hair. The last time I had been natural my mother was the person who cared for my hair. So it really was the first time in my life I was learning how to handle my own natural hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I’ve currently made some tweaks in my regimen as I am trying to achieve maximum growth but overall it is simple. I wash and deep condition (under a hooded dryer) weekly. I finger detangle in the shower and follow up with my leave-in, oil (Jamaican Black Castor Oil) and shea butter to twist. If I’m wearing a wash and go then I used a gel on top of my leave-in and oil instead of the shea butter to twist. I’ve also incorporated Jamaican Black Castor Oil and scalp massages on a weekly basis to stimulate growth. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I simply fluff and go. If my hair needs a bit of moisture I use a moisturizing spray or hair milk and seal with oil and then put it up in a puff. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Not much, I don’t retwist, I simply sleep on a satin pillowcase. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? When I wear a wash and go I often will diffuse my hair to speed up the process and I have done a blowout. But since my second big chop I’ve never straightened my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do braid my hair, usually box braids with extensions. I would say I do so about 4 times a year. Often times when I'm going on a vacation/trip or just need a break from my hair I'll get braids installed. I'm a bit weary of getting braids since my last installation caused a bit of breakage but I do plan on doing it in the future with some precautions during the installation process. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither, I opt for my fingers. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Most of the time it is loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I wouldn’t call it a tragedy but I got a set of box braids that were installed without the stylist caring for my ends. She was rough when installing them so when I took them down I had so many split and rough ends. I had to get a pretty significant trim to remedy the damage which was a bummer. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keep it moisturized, don’t skip your trims and deep condition often. Honestly doing those 3 things is when I see the biggest difference in my hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural on July 20th 2012. I went natural because I was tired of perming my hair I got burns with every perm then a coworker of mine showed me a YouTube video, when I saw how thick and healthy that young lady hair was I was hooked. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was getting used to such short hair and making myself look feminine. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Weekly regimen consist of a deep conditioning treatment of some type and a low manipulation style. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I do not touch my hair for 7 days at a time so daily I just make sure my hair is neat before I head out. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I use my satin scarf and or bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I have blow dried my hair once in 2.5 years to get a trim and that was it. I am not ready to use heat as yet.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes. Once so far. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective-do. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I am not sure it's a tragedy , but I would say yes. Back in March 2014 I gave birth to a son and in July my edges fell out completely, it was heart breaking. I am working on growing it back with TLC. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Get into a routine and learn what works for your hair and what doesn't. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Samantha Gomez and I reside in Toronto, Canada 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a little bit of 3C at the back but mainly 4A and 4B. Though my fro can look very full, I have very fine strands.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural 5 years ago. The reason I decided to cut off all my permed ends is because I was tired of conforming to social norms. I really wanted to experience my hair in it's natural state, the way God made me. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? When I initially BC'd, there were not many naturals here in Canada. So I was viewed as different. I had people constantly asking me why I cut off my hair. I felt like an outcast at times. I also found a few challenges taking care of my hair. I wasn't too sure about how to effectively moisturize it, how often to wash etc. I did however find many answers to my questions by watching other naturals on youtube. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I cowash at least once a week and deep condition as well. I also moisturize my hair each night before putting on a satin bonnet. This leaves my hair moisturized for the following day. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz my hair with water each morning to revive it from my night's sleep. If my hair feels dry in the morning, I would use the LOC method to moisturize it. I usually just use water, coconut or olive oil and a shea moisture product. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I always moisturize my hair in the night. I find that when I wake up, it is usually very soft when I follow this regime. I'm a big fan of raw shea butter so I generally just spritz my hair with water, coconut or olive oil and some shea butter. I always sleep with a satin bonnet or on a satin pillow to help retain the moisturize and avoid breakage. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? The only time heat is applied to my hair is when I go to the hairdresser for a cut. I don't ever straighten it myself. If I'm doing a blow out, I always use the cold setting on my blow dryer. I prefer my big fro to straight hair anyways lol
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I use protective styles like braids and/or twists about 3 times a year. Usually on my annual vacation (so I don't have to worry about styling while I'm having fun lol), for about a month in the summer time and a month during the winter. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I own both but usually gravitate towards my wide-tooth comb for detangling. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. I love my hair out! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No hair tragedy. I really make a solid effort to take care of my hair, ensure it's moisturized at all times and don't use heat unless required (only at the hair salon). 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize some more. Our hair is naturally dry by nature and dry hair is prone to breakage. I also recommend getting your hair trimmed to ensure healthy growth. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Chantelle and I'm from Toronto, Canada! 2. What is your hair type? Mostly 4c some 4a and 4b at the top.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I've been natural pretty much my whole life. What made me return natural in 2008 was simply money. I just had a baby and didn't want to waste money when I know how to take care of my natural hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Setting aside time to twist my hair was most challenging...more so tiring! 5. What is your weekly regimen? Wash, deep condition, moisturize, twist. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Nothing usually. Every few days I'll spray a water/vegetable glycerin mix. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Simply wrap my hair and go to bed! 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I have not used heat in a few years. I Air dry my hair and I haven't flat ironed it however I may on my 2nd year anniversary since growing my hair again from bald which is next year June. Maybe sooner. I'm open.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do! I do! I've just done it once this past year. Yarn braids. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide tooth comb. Have yet to try the Denman brush #Ashamed lol [No need to be ashamed! If wide-tooth combs do the job then there is no need. Heather xx] 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? A balance of both. If the twists get messy I do a twist out then I pick that out after a few days and rock a fro for about a week. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Haha can't say I really have. One time when my hair dresser did my hair (still permed) It turned reddish orange. It was due to a lack of nutrients-keratin specifically apparently. So I just started eating better and it faded. If you are in tune with it, your hair can show you a lot about what's going on inside <3. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Accept it, love it, let it do it's thing!!! Stop trying to control it or it will rebel. And don't touch it too much, Simply let it be. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
