1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Whitley Shannon and I am from Mississippi, but I reside in North Carolina. 2. What is your hair type? I have normal porosity, coarse hair. It is very thick! It is also multi-textured, mostly 4a/b.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I received my last perm on July 27, 2012, and I transitioned for 17 months. I became 100% natural on December 12, 2013. I had previously always had good experiences with relaxers. My hair was always long and healthy. That was until I decided to add color into the mix. I made the mistake of getting my hair colored and then relaxed without washing it during the two weeks in between. So it was like perming freshly colored hair! My hair started to fall out and I was devastated. When my hair started falling out, I had decided I was going to let my hair grow out and then start back getting relaxers. But then I started falling in love with my natural curl pattern and it's thickness. Not to mention I had always had a love for big curly hair so this was my chance to finally have it! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was trying not to lust after, idolize and wish I had a different curl pattern. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I honestly do not have a set regimen. I try to wash my hair at least once a week, and I tend to mix up my product use. But whenever I do wash my hair I always use shampoo. I follow that up with a washout conditioner and I detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb while it is in my hair. I also try to deep condition my hair after every wash. I moisturize with water, a moisturizer, and seal with oil whenever needed. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My morning regimen will vary depending on how I styled my hair after wash day. Majority of the time it's a twistout. On these mornings I simply take down the bands in my hair, fluff, and out the door I go. If I have a wash and go then I will stretch and shape it with a blow dryer. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If my hair is in a twistout, I crisscross band my hair in about 6 sections to maintain the definition and length. I sleep on a satin pillowcase and that makes everything so much easier so I just go to sleep with any other style with no worry. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? The only time I use heat is when I am deep conditioning my hair under a hair dryer and stretching my wash and go with a blow dryer. I may flat iron my my hair once a year just to check the length.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair when I am trying to stretch it or do a braid out which is very seldom. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Ride or die wide-tooth comb user! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose! I don't like hiding my hair if I don't have to. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My only hair tragedy occurred when I had a relaxer that I previously mentioned. I recovered by going natural. That was an awesome recovery! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Find out what works best for your hair. Keep it moisturized. Have patience and enjoy the journey! 14. Where can we find you online? The most challenging was finding products that worked for my hair type. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I try to co-wash my hair weekly but that sometimes doesn't happen! 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I'm a full time nurse so the majority of the time I'll just gather my hair in a bun and put on a cute headband and call it a day! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I do the pineapple method on my hair at night. I oil it with purpose kollection essential oil and put a little cantu curling cream in my hair and then place my hair in a pineapple. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Every now and then I’ll do a blow-out and curl wand, but I make sure to use a heat protectant spray.

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Annisa LiMara and I’m originally from Jackson, Mississippi but currently reside in Baltimore, Maryland. 2. What is your hair type? 4a/4b
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural almost 10 years ago because my hair was damaged and breaking off due to excessive relaxer and color treatments. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Trying to continuously control the frizz because the first 7 years I mainly kept my hair flat ironed which caused a lot of heat damage. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition every week and do a steam or hot oil treatment every other week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I recently shaved my hair off so I just add a little oil or pomade, brush and go…it takes literally one minute! Some days I do nothing! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I go to sleep or if I’m not being lazy, I’ll add some grapeseed oil, brush and put on a headscarf or “du rag”. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Only when using my handheld steamer, before I cut it, I used a diffuser minimally.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I used to maybe once or twice a year, but it was more so Havana twists or something similar versus braids. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush! If you use more than enough product it helps define curls so much easier combined with finger combing. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I almost always where it loose or as is; protective styles are very rare for me. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes! A few years ago, I went to the salon to get my bob cut a little shorter and the hairstylist botched the back of my head. My hair was so short that I had to go to another stylist to fix it and she ended up having to cut ALL my hair off. It was basically a big chop and I was devastated because I never had short hair. It ended up growing out healthier, fuller and my curls were really defined so it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Only a few years later I now have my hair shaved and absolutely love it! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize correctly and be consistent. Our hair needs constant moisture and care in order to be healthy or grow long so developing a consistent and effective hair routine helps with both. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Towanda Pritchett also known as “NaturallyDVine”. I am from Mississippi but currently live in Astoria, OR. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 4b/4c. My hair is 4b in the back of my hair and 4C mostly in the middle and front of my head.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
After transitioning for 10 months, I decided to big chopped on July 25, 2013. I decided to go natural because I was tired of being ashamed of my natural texture and was tired of using chemicals that can not only be harmful to my hair, but also to my scalp. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was wearing two textures. Wearing two completely different textures was difficult to maintain , therefore, I decided that my hair would thrive better if I big-chopped. I was right. My hair has grown significantly and is in its healthiest state. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash my hair with Herbal Essence Hydration Conditioner on a weekly basis (Twice a week for wash-n-go). I deep condition my hair every two weeks with Argan Oil Deep Treatment mask and I shampoo my hair with Carol’s Daughter once a month. In the midst of that, I oil my hair and scalp on a daily basis with my own personal growth oil. I mainly use coconut or castor oil as my staple. However, before sealing the oil, I use water as my main moisturizer. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regimen is quite simple. I used the LOC method. My leave in conditioner is “Cantu Shea moisture” along with water and aloe vera juice mix in a spray bottle, coconut oil as my main sealant, and “Cantu Shea Moisture” as my cream based. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night routine mostly is using my spray bottle mix mentioned above, Carol Daughter Hair Milk Refresher, and putting my hair in a pineapple at night secured with a scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I blow dryer as my tension method to stretch my hair out when I decided to do a braid out or a twist out. Also, I flat iron my hair twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes. There is no set schedule. I usually just go according to how I feel. However, I would say at least three times out of the year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I love using the Denman brush when my hair is wet and wide-tooth comb when my hair is dry. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is in a protective style 80% of the time. I have learned that bunning, tucking, braids, and putting my hair in a high puff are the best protective styles for my hair. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Not a major one, but I did have one when I first started installing braids and wearing tight hair puffs. My edges started thinning, however, I learned that castor oil was good for repairing my edges. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair is “Water”. Drink water at least 64 ounces of water and spritz your hair daily with water. Its the greatest gift to our hair. 14.
