1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Neosha and I'm in Georgia, USA. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a mix of Type 4 but mostly just 4B and 4C
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural 3 years ago on March 14th 2011. I initially wanted to transition for a year before ding the big chop but after 6 months I just randomly got out of bed one morning, grabbed some scissors and started snipping off my relaxed ends. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging was learning my hair. That was pretty rough. Trial and error helped out. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash (condition) weekly and deep condition bi-weekly. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? No routine. Just depends on if I plan to leave the house or not. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If my hair is not in a protective style such as braids, then I usually twist or pineapple my hair after spraying a leave in conditioning spray. Then apply a satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes. I MIGHT flat iron no more than twice a year. I use a hooded dryer when I do my deep conditioning treatments (not always bi-weekly).
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes. My hair is currently in box braids for the winter. I usually do braid styles during the fall/winter months. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth when I want my hair to let me be great . Other times, it's all finger detangling. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Currently in a protective do. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I was new to the natural thing, I made the mistake of putting in a texturizer not even a month later. Worst thing ever. So luckily my chop was still young and it just grew out. I recovered by reading up on hair, YouTube videos, LOTS of conditioning and protective styles, etc. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? The less you touch it, the better. At least for me. lol. Also, it doesn't hurt to learn techniques from others. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

Kassandeira aka Kaasi from Virginia Beach, Vancouver, USA. 2. What is your hair type? Mixture of 3c, 4a, 4b & 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
First BC was April/2011 & I was curious to see what my curls looked like. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing I ever experienced while natural would have been this past year. I experienced a lot of shed hair & too many hours detangling. So I BC'ed once again. My journey is not measured by the length of my hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Co-wash every 3 days. Apply oils to scalp after washing. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I let the steam from the shower revamp my curls. Fluff by bang & go! If it's a wash day I wash & then apply either a gel or smoothie to my hair while it's wet. Use my fingertips to coil my curls using the shingling method. Blow dry for 3 mins using my diffuser, apply a dry oil mist & that's it. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Wrap with scarf, that's it. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Often. Braid outs, protective styles & updos. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes. Major shedding & Single Strand Knots. I just cut my hair again. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Patience, care & moisture. Without those your hair will be a rushed, dry, mess! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Dana Harrell and I’m from Richmond, Vancouver, USA. 2. What is your hair type? I’d say my hair type is a mix between 3C and 4B from looking at the charts but I’m not sure because I don’t hair type. I feel like that takes away from the fun of natural hair.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I got my last relaxer in 2011 and started transitioning but I got tired of the process and did the chop June 2, 2012. I stopped getting relaxers because I used to get those nasty scabs in my head and they would hurt. My beautician is natural (she has locs) and she was a huge influence in my decision. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing for me going natural was acceptance. I was afraid of how my friends and family would view me, especially my parents. I was very happy and relieved when both my friends and parents loved my decision and at the end of the day, their opinions were all that mattered to me and I became a stronger person from it. Now I don’t who likes or dislikes my hair because I love it. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Since I work at a daycare with children, I find it easier to have my hair contained during the week. Every Sunday I wash my hair (or if I’m lazy, I’ll just spray with a mixture of leave in conditioner and water lol). I only shampoo my hair before and after I do a protective style like a sew in or braids or after I straighten my hair but I use the U R Curly Soya Shampoo and I use the U R Curly Soya Conditioner every time I wash my hair. I twist my hair using coconut oil and Shea Moisture’s Curling Soufflé. I hate the way it feels on my fingers, but my curls are SUPER defined using that product. I love trying new things so I will experiment with different stylers, shampoos, and conditioners, but that’s usually what I use to obtain my perfect twist-out and I always do this process. I don’t part at all when I twist lol so when I finish, I’d say I have about 25-30 twists in my hair because I do them kinda small. So I go to work Mon-Fri with my twists in and Friday night I usually go out with my friends so that’s when I untwist! Then repeat on Sunday lol 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Simple. Wake up, Lightly spray a mixture of water and leave in conditioner on my twists, rub a bit of oil on them, then I’m out. lol 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Also simple lol. I also spray my leave-in mixture on my hair and massage my hair with oil. The only difference is I sleep with a satin bonnet. If it’s a weekend where my hair is out, I TRY to remember to twist my hair before bed in big chunky twists. If I don’t (because I’m not perfect and sometimes I’m too tired lol) I’ll just throw my bonnet on, and just bun it up in the morning if it’s un-save..able lol . I don’t know if my hair is too short to do the pineapple method or if I’m just not grasping the concept, but that just doesn’t work for me. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I try to limit heat. I haven’t flat ironed my hair since December of last year, and I went to a professional. I do blow dry my hair before getting it braided or a sew-in but I don’t blow dry it completely dry. It’ll be maybe 80% dry.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes! I have a friend who is amazing at doing hair. (Shout-out to Tia!) This year I’ve only had my hair braided once and that was over the summer. I had Marley Twists and I kept them in for about 2 months. I’ll maybe get my hair braided twice per year. It just depends on how I feel. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I usually finger detangle but I’m just fine with a wide tooth comb. I have a Denman but I feel like nothing detangles better than my comb, if I need it. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Now that I work, It’s normally protected in two strand twists. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I sure have! It was the first time I tried Bantu-knots. My hair came out looking like a limp noodle lol. I pinned the sides and left a “bang” in the front since that was the only part that looked decent lol 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture! My hair is very thick and it’s very easy for it to become dry so I have to remember that water and oil has to be apart of my regimen every morning and every night and sometimes during the day. Our hair is like flowers, it needs water to prosper. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hey there, I’m Andrea and I’m from Houston, Texas, USA. 2. What is your hair type? I’m actually not to sure exactly but probably in the 4a area. I have a few different patterns like most naturals so I can’t just pick one.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural a little over three years ago. I was tired of getting relaxers and constantly damaging and putting harmful chemicals in my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Probably trying to style both my new growth and relaxed ends. I got frustrated from time to time when styles didn’t come out the way I wanted to. Also, finding the right products to use after my big chop was a lot of trial and error. It got easier once I found a regimen and good products. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I actually have a video up on my YouTube channel with all the steps and products! But I’ll wash (shampoo + condition), deep condition, apply a leave-in then comb out my hair. I’ll apply whatever butter and gel I’m using at the time and then braid my hair for a braid out. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I’ll apply a dab of oil through out my hair and shake it out and then pick at the roots for volume. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I’ll either use the Pineapple method or just put my hair in two loose ponytails. I sleep on a satin pillowcase so I won’t put on a satin cap, but I do wear it when I’m not sleeping on a satin case. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I try not to, I’ve gone a little over three years without straightening it. I do blow it out every couple of months but on low heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Only for braid outs, I’ve tried french braiding my hair but because of how thick my hair is it never comes out as smooth as I want it to. I have been itching to try braids with extensions like Solange wears. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither! I use a tangle teezer, it works great since I am tender headed. I’ll only use a wide tooth in the shower when my hair is soaking wet. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose, it’s gotten long enough for me to do a big puff, so I’ll do that when my hair is getting closer to wash day. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Not really, the closest thing would probably be after I lifted my color and had it dyed to a honey blondish color and it faded to orange. I still cringe looking at older photos of it. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Find styles and products that work for you! Everyone has different hair types, genes, and tons of other health factors that go into how long/healthy your hair is. I try my best to use as much natural products as I can and be healthy when it comes to eating and my lifestyle. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Brandi Crenshaw from Raleigh, North Carolina, USA 2. What is your hair type? 4B
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2008 after noticing years of thinning edges and a dwindling ponytail. Years of consistent relaxers had damaged my hair and it was see through. I hated the fact that my hair was so thick at the roots and so thin at the ends. It was time to go back to my roots and so I did and have never looked back. That creamy crack is WACK! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The transition period where you have two or sometimes more, curl patterns and textures. I combatted this issue by maintaining my transitioning hair in protected up do's and two strand twist styles. The other challenge was dealing with a new look, a new me. Hair is a major physical feature for a woman and changing the texture and length dramatically can cause mental and emotional challenges that requires changes to an individuals state of mind state outlook on self. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I cleanse using a co-wash once a week and moisturize every three days with mist of water and quartersize amount of my personally blended Castor Oil/aloe vera based leave in conditioner followed by a dime size amount of my very own Shea Butter concoction that I mix at home and call PrettyBrand Hair Crack. I apply that to my hair in small sections. I style using a light non tacky gel. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depending on the hair style it varies but typically I do not style in the morning as I have my style already set the night before. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Typically stretched using my moisturizing regimen listed above then braid each section or two strand twist and roll the ends for a more defined curl pattern for the ends. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Maybe once or twice a year when I have my stylist trim my ends.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I never add extentions as I do do not prefer to have my hair confined to one style for longer than a week. Extension braids would be a waste of money for me as I would have to take them out prematurely. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both, first the wide tooth comb then the Denman brush. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective updo in the fall and winter and loose in the summer. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I went natural I had an all over color applied which made my hair brittle. So, in the first year of being natural I couldn't fully appreciate the new look because it wasn't technically natural or my true texture so I had to grow it out without color and create a new regimen. I now have highlights but I know how to care for it to prevent it from becoming dry and brittle. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Maintaining a proper pH balance, by applying the correct products in the correct way for the climate you are in. The LOC method is the best. If you want length rentention you must maintain your ends with proper moisturizers and have regular trims. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

My name is LaToya (1BlessedNatural), and I am from Newark, New Jersey. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a mixture of 4A, 4B, and 4C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I began transitioning in November of 2010. I big chopped on March 3, 2011. I went natural because my hair was severely damaged from a perm, and I was tired of the scabs and hiding my roots. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was finding a regimen that worked for my hair. It took me a while to find the right products and techniques for me. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Every week, I thoroughly finger detangle my hair and then do an Apple Cider/ tea tree oil rinse. Afterwards, I wash my hair with a prescribed seborrheic dermatitis shampoo and deep condition it. My hair is detangled with a wide-tooth comb right before I wash out the conditioner. Then, I band my hair to stretch it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regimen almost always includes moisturizing and sealing. If I am wearing a puff and flat twists, I will untwist my puff section, moisturize, and seal it. Then, I will grab a stretchy band to create a puff. If I am doing a twist-out, I will apply coconut oil to my fingers and unravel my twists. I apply a moisturizer to the perimeter of my hair, and then put on a headband. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night time regimen usually consists of me moisturizing and sealing my hair. Sometimes, I will use water as my moisturizer and an oil (usually coconut oil) as my sealant. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use a heating cap when I am deep conditioning my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair 1-2 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I’ve had 3 hair tragedies that included protein overload, moisture overload, and heat damage. Two years ago, my hair became heat damaged from attempting to flat iron it. I recovered by deep conditioning and cutting off the damaged ends. Last year, I did too many protein treatments in a short amount of time. This caused protein overload. I recovered by trimming my split ends and avoiding all hair products with protein. However, I went too long without using any protein treatments, and I began to experience moisture overload. My hair was very mushy and soft. It was also fragile. I did an Aloe Vera rinse and began using my hair products with protein until my hair was back to normal. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair is to keep it moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Juliet Obodo and I was born in Nigeria and currently reside in NYC. 2. What is your hair type? I have 4B type hair!
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural 3 years ago after leaving a corporate sales job to pursue my writing career. I felt so free! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Maintain the length that I was growing, but since I've been wearing a lot of protective styles that have been helpful. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I use shea butter to style and plait my hair in small braids. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I take the braids out in the morning and style. I may or may not add more moisture to my ends. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I usually re-braid my hair into larger braids and wrap them in a scarf before bed. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes occasionally when I need to trim my hair or wish to wear it straight. I go to a salon to do and they use heat protectant.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I do. I wear my hair in braid during the summer months. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Because of my hair texture definitely a wide-tooth comb made from tortoise-shell. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It depends on the season. Loose in the spring and autumn and protective do either braids or a extensions in the summer and winter. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes I was in a rush to take out my braids and accidentally cut my hair. A large tuft square in the middle. Big-chop Part 2. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? To always condition and moisture your ends. This helps not lessen the frequency of trims. 14. Desmone - Brooklyn, NY 2. What is your hair type? 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
October 2013. I wanted healthier, stronger hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Managing and maintaining. I was used to having a perm where I would wrap my hair at night within 5 minutes. That routine extended to 20 - 30 minutes. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair once a week. Twist every night before going to bed. Some days I get lazy and regret it in the morning lol. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Untwist my hair, add oil and pick it out. Style as desired. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Two-strand twists. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use the blow dryer to blow it straight for a longer, fuller twist out.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Every summer. Usually from May - September. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I was wearing a weave for a good period of time. Because it wasn't a full head weave and I was using the flat iron frequently, my hair started breaking off. It became damaged so I ended up cutting it into a short cut. From there I stopped getting perms and started my natural transition. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Conditioner. Oil. Patience. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Dayna, and I currently reside in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. 2. What is your hair type? I would say that I have type 4C hair.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I transitioned for about a year in 2012. In February 2013 I decided to chop off the remaining relaxed ends. My 2 year natural anniversary will be February 2015! I decided to go natural because I was tired of putting chemicals in my hair and I was tired of my hair being brittle, and overall unhealthy. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging part about going natural was finding the products that worked best for my hair. When I first became natural I was a product junkie, like most new naturals. I was trying any and everything that my favorite YouTuber tried and recommended. That just led to frustration because everything that works for her may not work for me. So really finding the best products for my hair has been challenging, but now that I have; it is super easy! 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen consists of a wash and deep condition. My wash days are Sundays, so I use this time to relax do some chores around the house while I have on my shower cap deep conditioning my hair. After the deep condition I will either flat twist my hair, or protective style it in a goddess twist braid. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? This typically depends on my hair style and what my hair tells me in the morning. If my hair is in flat twists, I would unravel them using coconut oil, then fluff and style. If my hair is just out; I would do the LOC method (Liquid, Oil, Cream). I will spray my hair with my favorite leave in conditioning spray, add in a little coconut oil, and then seal in the moisture with shea butter. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nightly routine is the LOC method mentioned above if my hair needs it, and then adding Jamaican black Castor oil on my edges. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Right now I am participating in a no heat challenge, so I am currently resisting the urge to use any heat. But I am typically not a big heat person. I will probably go another year before I flat iron/ straighten my hair. The last time I had my hair straightened was February of 2014. I told myself I will not straighten my hair until it is down my back lol. So I think I have another year to go! But once the challenge is over I will use small amounts of heat, such as a blow dryer just to stretch my hair a little for my twist outs. Currently, if I want my hair to be stretched; I would French braid my hair in about 6 sections and then stretch those sections across my head and bobby pin it. In the morning I will take out the braids, comb it out a little and my hair is stretched.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do get my hair braided, but not that often. I had my hair braided about 2 times this year. I keep the braids in for about a month. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? To detangle I use a wide-tooth comb. I think this is gentler for my thick 4c hair. For styling my twist outs, when my hair is already fairly detangled; I will run a Denman brush through my hair to ensure it is extra smooth. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I think my hair is normally more so in a protective style. I wear my hair loose, maybe once a week. The rest of the workweek it is pinned back in my favorite twist style. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes I have had multiple hair tragedies. The first one was when I went to a new stylist and she said I needed a “trim” but cut off about 4 inches of my hair. That was a tragedy because I did not think my hair really needed that much of a trim! My second tragedy was postpartum hair loss. At exactly 3 months postpartum I started experiencing EXTREME hair shedding. Literally when I washed my hair it was falling out in clumps; it was awful. It was a really tough experience because there was nothing I could do about it. I experienced the shedding for about 6 months. My daughter turned one in October, and my hair just now started to really be normal again. With this “tragedy” I unfortunately just had to wait it out, and just maintain moisture until my body and hormones was back to normal. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair is actually caring for it and taking that time for it. Now that I am a mother, I have learned that hair to me is sort of like a baby or a child. Your hair, just like a baby cannot take care of itself. You have to nurture it, feed it, be gentle, teach it, all of those things. You can’t expect for the child/ hair to do these things on its own. So I have learned that if I really take the time to do these things for my hair, it will thrive! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Kayedee (CurliKay) and I'm from the most beautiful island in the southern Caribbean, Grenada. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is between 3C and 4A.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I returned natural because not only was my relaxed hair boring, I wanted to lead a healthier life, mind, body and soul and well chemicals don't fit into that mix so I returned natural, embracing my curls on October 22, 2013. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging for me would be detangling especially when I wore my hair loose for a period of time. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep my regimen simple: I shampoo, condition and deep-condition my hair weekly. I interchange every week between a green-tea rinse and an apple cider vinegar rinse. I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to seal directly out of the shower and my whipped shea butter to lock all that good stuff in, then allow my hair to air dry and style as desired after an hour or so. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning I simply fluff my hair out if I am wearing it loose and if not then I use a toothbrush to get my edges to lay down and I'm good to go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nighttime routine consists of re-moisturizing my hair using the L.O.C method focusing mainly on my ends and sleeping with a satin bonnet or scarf, this depends on the hairstyle that I have. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Since returning natural, I have never used heat, not even from a blow dryer or a steamer. But I do intend to flat-iron my hair one day.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, I braid my hair. I did it more often when my hair was shorter but now that it's basically shoulder length I don't as much so I would say I braid it once or twice a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both but lately I've been leaning more to the Denman brush because it helps detangle my hair better and not leaving that much knots for me to undo with my hands. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Being honest this is equally done because I wear my hair one week twisted and the next week loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, my dye went wrong. I was trying to dye my hair purple and so I bleached my hair. I didn't get the color I wanted and was left with extremely dry and brittle hair that started to break. Well after numerous deep-conditioning sessions I just decided to chop most of the ends off and dye it black and continue deep-conditioning and moisturizing and after a while it felt better, healthier. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip would be to always keep your hair moisturized, never allow your hair to get dehydrated, because it would eventually lead to breakage and that's not what we're looking for in a healthy hair journey. 14.
