1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is LaPorcha and I am from Louisiana but currently living in Tennessee. 2. What is your hair type? I'm not into hair typing, but I've been told my hair is 4A.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in April 2013. I simply got tired of buying relaxers and burning my scalp. Also, I was just really bored with my straight hair. Although it was long (MBL) there just wasn't much I could do with it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Transitioning and getting the looks and comments from people who don't like natural hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I Co-Wash at least once a week, deep condition and style my hair. I usually have a twistout, but recently I've had LOTS of success with wash and go's so those have been my go to styles. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz my hair with a little water, shake and go (if I have a wash and go). With a twist out I take the bands out and fluff and go. Simple, right? :) 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I band my hair at night, and I sleep with a satin bonnet. Sometimes I'll re-twist, but a lot of the time I don't. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I have used heat on my hair once, to do a length check. I'm afraid of heat damage, so I limit the heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No, I don't. I did once, and the hair irritated my scalp so bad I took them out a week later and haven't had any since, although I really want some for Fall. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both, but mainly a Denman. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Thankfully I haven't! *knock on wood * :) 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture!! Also, low manipulation. I notice that my hair does better when I'm not messing with it every day. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Alia and I'm from Chicago, living in Indianapolis for a couple months now. 2. What is your hair type? I have dense, coarse, 4b/c hair.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I got my last relaxer in December 2013 and big chopped 5 months later. I went natural because I was bored with my hair and unsatisfied with the length. Its just seemed like it wasnt growing and never made it past neck/shoulder length. It was also constantly shedding. I wanted longer, healthier hair that was versatile. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was learning how to retain moisture, and dealing with the thickness! At times it seems as if I have enough hair on my head for 3 people. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I cowash my hair once a week. Before washing, I put my hair into chunky twists and tie the ends off with little elastics so that they won't unravel. After washing, I take down each twist, apply my deep conditioner, detangle, and split it into 2 twists. I do this all over my head then cover with a plastic cap. Sometimes I sit under the dryer, sometimes I don't. After rinsing out all the deep conditioner while my hair is still twisted, I put my hair up in a t shirt to air dry for about 2 hours. After that I do the LCO method on each twist, then split it into 2 more twists. I air dry for a day or 2 before unraveling for a twist out. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning, all I do is separate my twists, fluff, shake and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I retwist my hair nightly, into about 13 or so chunky twists. I don't add any extra water or products unless my hair is noticeably dry. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do not use direct heat (flat irons, blow dryers) at all but I do sit under the hooded dryer for deep conditioning treatments and to speed up the drying process occasionally.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I usually braid my hair about once a year. Its never planned, I just do it whenever I get the itch. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both! But I have been using my wide tooth comb a lot less lately now that I use a different method to wash my hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is loose 90% of the time. I love big hair! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Thankfully, I have never had a hair tragedy while being natural. While being relaxed I had many unexpected cuts and bad relaxers :( I learned that not everyone knows how to apply a relaxer. It IS a chemical! A dangerous one when not used properly. I got strict with who I let touch my hair, deep conditioned more often and tried to use heat less. My hair started to flourish again. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture, moisture, moisture!! And it starts from within. You should always make sure to drink plenty of water, and deep condition regularly. Rinse out conditioners, leave in conditioners, and moisturizers don't penetrate the strand the way deep conditioners do and that's where the moisture is needed. Kinkier textures, make sure to seal that moisture in with an oil/butter of your choice. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Fanta (yes that is my first name) and I'm from Mali, West Africa. I live in Paris, France so excuse my English please, I'll do my best. 2. What is your hair type? In the half front part and the half bottom part the texture of my hair is different but the curl pattern is 4B everywhere.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I first tried to go natural when I was 16 but lack of knowledge in hair care and maintenance made me go back to relaxer and wigs at 19. In 2012 I decided to start a relaxer hair journey after watching all those beautiful women on youtube and blogs. In 6 months my hair grew out so much! It was insane but my hair was so thin and fragile! One day I was really fed up with this thin hair, I took a pair of scissors and cut then off! It was in July 2013. That is when I started my natural hair journey. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Accepting my natural hair. Kinky hair is bad, kinky hair is ugly, kinky hair is not attractive, kinky hair... is not hair! It's just a big mistake from God. That is what this society, in particular black communities tell you. At the beginning, every black person I met (except natural queens and kings) told me to stop this, that I will not find a man, my relaxed hair was more beautiful etc. Going natural was a real freeing therapy for me because I had to stand against my closest friends and family members. I had to learn to love myself and accept my hair in spite of all the criticism and laughters. But I've made it and I'm proud to see today that the same people that laughted at first have big chopped now or are constantly asking me question about going natural because they've started to think about it! 5. What is your weekly regimen? I'm in what I call the 3 day regimen. The first day, Monday for example, I co-wash my hair then I make a deep treatment (conditioner / mask + olive oil + honey). I rince it out, add leave-in and my scelling oil (castor + avocado oils). Then I finger-detangle and style. Three days later, on Thursday, I wash my hair with water only under the shower for. Then leave-in, oils, finger detangling, styling. Three days later, on Sunday, I wash again with water only, make a deep treatment. Then, leave-in, oils, finger-detangling, styling. Three days later... Repeat from the beginning. I color my hair regularly so I need a lot of moisture to prevent breakage and dryness, This three day hair regimen is the one that gives me the best results. Every three months I wash my hair with a shampoo and before I do so I sleep with my home made shea butter treatment (shea butter, castor oil, avocado oil, tea tree oil, rosemary oil and peppermint oil) 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I don't have any morning regimen. In between every three-day washes, I don't do anything to my hair and don't put anything on it. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I just put my satin scarf on and go to bed! 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Since I'm natural I've never use heat on my hair, not even a blow-out!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
If by braid, you mean senegalese twists, marley braids etc. no, I don't braid my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I've never use denman brush and to tell you the whole truth, I rarely comb my hair with tools, I do it with my fingers. I only use a wide tooth comb when I do styles as cornrows or flat twists. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I love rocking afro's, it's my favorite hairstyle but I've noticed that when I leave my hair in afro for several weeks, it creates a lot of knots and my hair becomes very difficult to detangle even with a comb. So I switch between afro a few days and protective styles a lot of days! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? YES! Four months after my big chop, I decided to dye my hair with Dark & Lovely permanent hair color in Red Hot Rhythm. My hair became so dry, no curls anymore, only dryness and breakage, huge breakage. I started co-washing and deep conditionning my hair twice a week but my hair kept falling everyday and became drier and drier! The only solution was to cut 2,5 inch of hair. Then I started to see my curls and my moisture back. I was devastated, I made the big chop few months ago, my afro was still small and I had to cut it all and start again from the beginning! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Always choosing health over length. It's not easy sometimes but I always repeat myself: If you keep your hair healthy, the length will surely come. Listening to my hair is how I choose health over length. I always listen to my hair, everyday I look at them, I look at how many hair fall when I detangle, how my hair feels after washing or deep conditionning, how shiny my hair is or is not, I pay close attention in the morning and in the evening, everywhere and everytime. And if something is wrong, I make everything to find out the reason and the solution until it's OK again. I don't do something or buy a product just because it's the new trend or because my favorite youtuber does it, I do what my hair needs. 14. Where can we find you online? 3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to return natural in early September, I made this decision because I wanted curls, I wondered why so many black females in America had really pretty curls and I didn’t, and as long as I cold remember, I have been relaxed all my life so I decided to try it. I had my big chop September 18 2013, just a few days before my 18th birthday 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural when I first did was trying to get my hair to look like that of those on you tube with 3b and c hair type. Trying to get curls which weren’t mine. It was quite challenging till finally did more research and learnt more about my hair texture and embraced it. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen when I am not on protective styles is to co wash every Wednesday and deep condition every weekend. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regimen consists of me spritzing my hair with my hair mix which consists mainly of water, lavender, tea tree, peppermint and lemon oil, followed by a carrier oil and cocoa butter. 7. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Not since I returned natural, no.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair every month, usually cornrows which I make myself and then I put on wigs or tie turbans. I braid my hair about 335 days a year. lol 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both. All depends on what I feel like doing and how much I want to detangle. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Usually in a protective do. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes!! I did once. I wanted to wear the Ghana weaving cornrow style and I wanted her to start from my edges, she held my edges so tight about 30 strands of hair was pulled out. I was really sad and devastated I had to tell her to loosen it and then try something else. I recovered from it by massaging castor oil it every night and day till it grew back. it didn’t even take up to 3 months and I was relived. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip is moisture and protective styles. When your hair is rightly moisturized and in a protective style at the same time, you get to retain so much length and health. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Alexandria, I'm currently residing in Houston, TX 2. What is your hair type? 3C/4A
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in the Summer of 2010. A classmate of mine inspired me to transition and then big chop! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Learning my hair and finding products! You will go through a lot of trial and error with natural hair products. It's kind of like a natural hair initiation. Every natural has to go through it! 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen consists of deep conditioning, shampooing, co-washing, and moisturizing every night. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My morning regimen consists of me taking my twists or style from the previous night down. I don't really do much in the morning. I keep my hair regimen very simple. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I set my hair GENTLY every night. I like to maintain my style for longer than a day. So, I spray a leave in, seal with an oil or shea butter and then style for the next day. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I rarely use heat. I recently straightened my hair fro a friends wedding and suffered a small bit of heat damage so It definitely will be a while before I straighten again.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, I try to get braids or twists once or twice yearly to switch up my look. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? DENMAN BRUSH, all day long! I love that thing. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It's normally loose. I wear my hair in twist outs 80% of the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Oh my goodness, where do I start. My first year natural, I colored my hair blonde. I colored my hair at home and the first disaster was that it came out ORANGE! I had to go and get the color corrected. Next disaster was when I tried to straighten my hair and the stylist had no idea how to work with my hair so that's when the scissors came out, causing me to lose all of my growth. Lesson learned. I definitely do my own hair now. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture, moisture, moisture! You must moisturize and seal your hair! Do the LEAST, not the most. Keep your regimen simple. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Love! I’m Ghanaian and I live in Brisbane, Australia. 2. What is your hair type? I’m not really concerned too much with hair typing, but I would say my hair is 4c if it had to be classified. But although it is kinky, it’s very soft and extremely thick, with tight coils at the roots.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
Well my mom and one of my best friends actually inspired me to go natural. My mom has been natural for about 5 years now, and when I saw how healthy and long her hair was growing, and how beautiful and thick her texture was, I wanted to be able to experience that! Also, my bff has been natural for quite some time too, and we always had conversations about me going natural. She always had such simple and useful tips about maintaining natural hair, and the more she talked about it, the more I wanted to give it just chop of my relaxed ends! So after transitioning for about 7 months, in July 2013, I decided to finally do the big chop! It was the most liberating feeling! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Learning to be patient, and allowing my hair to grow at its own pace! I loved my Twa stages because it was so low maintenance. But when my hair got to that stage where the length wasn’t quite short to rock as a TWA but not long enough to really style, that when I found it challenging to work with, so I wore a lot of wigs during that time! 5. What is your weekly regimen? I usually braid up my hair for a few weeks at a time while I wear my wigs. When its time for me to wash though, I shampoo, condition and then apply Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter as my leave in. I add some Shea Butter and Coconut Oil, braid it up again, and then I go back to wearing my wigs for the next few weeks, and so on. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My hair is usually in plaits of cornrows, so sometimes I just apply a bit of coconut oil to my hands and apply it to my hair before I put on my wig. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I oil my scalp and apply some coconut oil on my edges nightly and wrap it with a satin durag. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No I haven’t used heat on my hair since my big chop. It’s not something I want to do just yet, but maybe in a year or 2, I’ll get a blow out and press my hair just to see how it would look.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I get my hair braided once a year when I go to Ghana. I love box braids and marley twists 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I finger detangle most of the time. I only use a wide-tooth comb on wash day. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I mostly wear protective styles. I custom make my own wigs, so that’s what I’m usually wearing. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No, I haven’t ever experienced anything regarding my hair that I would consider a tragedy. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Protective styling for me is key, because when I leave my hair alone and don’t mess with it too much, it does its thing! Also finger detangling has really helped me maintain length. Otherwise I would say to have patience. Your hair will take time to grow, so don't get frustrated that the growth isn't happening as quickly as you maybe expected! So really enjoy all the different stages of growth! 14.
