1. What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Bri-Anne Alexis or Bri Classy on social media - I’m from Barbados/Toronto. I currently reside in Toronto. 2. What is your hair type? Aye aye aye, the dreaded question. I’m not really sure. I think I’m 3c/4a. My hair varies from tight s-curls to pen-spring sized spirals.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I’ve always been natural; my mother made it a very strict rule that I could not relax my hair until I was 16 (thank you Mom!) and by the time I was 16, the natural movement was already underway and I was embracing my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? For me the most challenging thing about being natural is understanding what is “normal” for natural hair. For so long, natural hair has been shunned in society and the standard was/is straight hair - so much so, that even when we try to embrace our natural hair we believe it will act similar to straight hair (piling it on your head when you shampoo, thinking you can detangle in 5 mins, using small clips or “surf” spray lol. I’m still learning what works and does not work for my hair, you never stop learning. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash once a week. I start by rinsing my hair, sectioning it into 4 then detangling it with conditioner, then I proceed to shampoo, protein treatment and then deep condition. I have a video on my old wash day routine on my channel for a better idea of this. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It really depends on what I plan on doing with my hair that day. If it’s going in a sleek bun, I use gel and tie it down, if it’s going to be open I just shake and style to my liking. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Pineapple and satin hair tie! I can’t SLEEP without a satin hair tie! (Maybe because I’m also scared of that spider-sleeping-ear thing I’ve heard…) Anywho, if it’s feeling dry, I like to moisturize at night so that it’s soaked in by morning. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I flat iron once a year or so if I build up the arm strength. Other than that, I love to use my blowdryer on it’s COOL setting when I need to speed things up - it’s not heat but it is my blowdryer!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
NO! Ahaha. I should though! I don’t like braiding my hair because it’s very time consuming and even if I get braids put in by someone else they start to itch like crazy after a week! 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I think half and half… it’s either in a bun of some sort or open in a perm rod set or twist out. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? YES! I went back to Barbados one year for Christmas and I decided that I could go two weeks without combing my hair. I went in the sea, I wore it out, I wore it in buns, I washed it… When I got back to Toronto, it was dreaded and matted! It took 3 HOURS to comb and it came out in unbelievable clumps… Never did that again. PS: I have a whole video dedicated to what NOT to do to your hair:
13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair?
My biggest tip is patience. You will need patience when detangling, when waiting for it to grow, when trying to learn a new style, when learning to love your texture, when curving people’s negative/ignorant comments, when trying to find a product you like… just overall patience. Other than that… I would say you have to develop new good habits and stick to them (moisturizing, reducing friction and heat etc). 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Lee-Anne Holder and I’m from the beautiful country of Barbados. 2. What is your hair type? My hair is combination type 4 (i.e. 4a,4b,4c).
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started transitioning on feb 23rd 2012 after my last texturiser and did my first official chop, March 23rd 2013 when I got annoyed dealing with two textures. I honestly decided to go natural because I felt like I literally did all I could do with my hair, relaxer, texturiser, braids, twists and everything in between. I was getting so bored of my hair and the limp texturised state it was in. I also felt that having no recollection of my natural hair, was a bit ridiculous and quite sad. YouTube also played a pivotal role in convincing me to transition. Seeing the diversity of natural hair made it a GO for me. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The stares from the public and their embarrassing questions posed the biggest challenge for me. Not having the confidence, like I do now, made it really difficult for me in the earlier stages. I was really defensive, but now I have come to accept that years of being taught that these things about ourselves are not acceptable, cannot be undone overnight. Oh, and lets not forget the daylong washdays. Sigh, but it gets better. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition my hair every Sunday. I set my style for the week and moisturize and retwist when necessary. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I remove my satin headtie, oil my palms and undo my style. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I spray my hair with a little water/conditioner mix, then retwist with my choice of moisturizer or gel. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I mostly use heat during my deep conditioning treatment. Since I’m terrified of heat damage. I’m currently trying to practice heatless stretching using braidouts.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, possibly 2-3 times a year. Last year I did yarn locs and a crochet faux hawk. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush, but modified. I’ve removed like 3 rows of teeth from my brush head. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. As much as I love the convenience of protective hair styles, I really start to miss my hair and the feeling of water on my scalp during my weekly washes. I know washing your hair during protective styling is a must but it’s sooo messy. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Thank God, no! #blessed 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My motto is “Clean Hair is Healthy Hair”. My tip for anyone is to develop and try to stick to a solid hair regimen and in time your hair will thank you for it. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Toia B. and I’m from Brooklyn, NY via Barbados, W.I. 2. What is your hair type? I actually prefer not to categorize my hair using the hair chart or typing system. I simply describe my hair as “kinky” in most areas, “coily” in others.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started the journey to return to my natural texture in early 2009 and cut off all the relaxed hair in October of that year. I was just tired of the constant routine of relaxing which always involved a burning scalp! My husband would always encourage me to stop. When the week came for me to apply the touch-up, I didn’t. I decided I was done with chemically straightening my hair for good! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? First, there was actually learning about my hair and how to properly care for it. I made a lot of mistakes that first year! I also had to overcome a bit of hair envy, watching as the hair of certain YouTubers seemed to grow at alarming rates while mine seemed to be stuck in one place. I quickly learned and accepted that we’re all different and that comparing was counterproductive. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Every week, I moisturize with SheaMoisture Extra Moisture Detangler and use Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my scalp. On wash day (every 2 weeks), I’ll use the same detangling product along with my Q-Redew hair steamer to detangle prior to washing. Makes life MUCH easier! Cleansing products differ from week-to-week but generally, with my hair in about 7 sections, I shampoo, deep condition, apply Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia Leave-In Conditioner and then seal with an oil or butter. I’ll usually then plait my hair to give it some stretch and let it air dry. On days that I blow it out, I use grapeseed oil as a sealant and heat protectant. When I feel I need some extra moisture, I may steam even on weeks that I’m not washing or to refresh a style. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If I’m wearing my hair in a loose fro, I’ll refresh with some Sweet Ambrosia, then seal with her Butter Love, shake and go. If I’m rocking a protective style like Marley Twists, I apply my spray bottle mix to my scalp and the length of my hair, then follow-up with either the Butter Love or an oil to seal. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Depending on how tired (lazy) I am, I may apply the aforementioned detangler and either loosely twist my hair in 6-8 random sections and cover with a bonnet or pineapple the hair (gather hair at the top of my head) with a scarf & cover the loose ends with my bonnet. I always wear a satin head-covering to bed! 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, but I try to keep it as minimal as possible. I blow my out hair no more than twice a month and always use medium heat, never high.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
About twice a year, maybe three, I’ll install Marley twists to give my hair a rest. On occasion, I’ll do a few cornrow styles. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither. I either use my fingers or my Tangle-Teezer… love it! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? These days, I keep it in protective styles way more than I do loose. It really helps me retain length and get out the door quicker! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I once had a professional color put in my hair and then I relaxed my roots exactly one week later. I was able to do that with box colors with no problem so I didn’t think there’d be an issue. Well, my hair was coming out in clumps! Surprisingly, given the areas from which the hair fell, I was able to camouflage so no one was the wiser. It all grew back just fine. :-) 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Healthy hair starts from within! Drinking lots of water, having a balanced diet to include fruits and veggies, exercise, plus taking a daily multi-vitamin will aid in healthy hair growth. Once you achieve and maintain healthy hair, length will follow, if that’s your goal. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc)
