1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Angela Denae. I'm living in New York. 2. What is your hair type? I'm not big on hair typing, however I guess my hair type is 4C more or less
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2012, simply because I was tired of getting my hair relaxed. I realized that I had never had natural hair as an adult (I had my first relaxer at 12) and wanted to give it a try. I mean, it saves you money right? (another bonus point!) I haven't looked back! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The biggest challenge for me was figuring out a regimen that worked for my hair. When I first started I thought there was system of multiple magic hair products(s) that would make me "wake up like this", which led to product overload on my hair...NOT a good look ladies. Less is literally the golden ticket for my hair. Also, once I stopped getting obsessed with curl definition, letting my hair do what it does has made my life so much easier! Accept that your hair will not look the same everyday and go with it. Frizz and All. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition my hair every week. I section then braid my hair and put either olive or jojoba oil on my hair for 30 mins to an hour prior to washing it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I wake up. Take my scarf off. Spray my mixture of distilled water, oils and glycerin into my hair. Fluff. Done. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Spray my hair with my mixture of distilled water, oils and glycerin. Tie up my hair with a silk scarf to "pineapple" it up. Go to bed. If I'm feeling into it I will section out and do a braid out to stretch my hair for the next day...that happens about every 3 weeks or when I want REALLY big hair 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Nope. My hair is super sensitive to it. I will do it once a year for a trim.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I haven't yet, but I'm actually looking to give it a try this summer. Twists here I come...maybe. I DO braid my hair after I wash it for stretching purposes. Other than that I don't braid it much, unless I want a larger fro. Doing it every night is too much manipulation for my hair (and my time) at this point. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither. I use a paddle brush to detangle my hair (in sections) in the shower with conditioner in it. This has equaled less hair ripping and great curl separating. Best.Thing.Ever. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is usually in afro, fro-hawk or pulled up to a bun. I don't really do protective styling since I don't manipulate my hair much and it's so curly that it hardly ever touches my shoulders unless it's straight. One day though! One day. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? The only real hair tragedy for me was when I got fed up trying to maintain 2 hair textures while transitioning. I got so tired of braiding my hair to "blend" the textures that I took the scissors and cut my hair myself. Yep. I big chopped my own hair. I was also going through a break up, so add that to the mix. Haha. I was not ready for the change of perception of myself and others, but you really don't learn that until after. I did not realize how much I depended on my long straight hair to make me feel pretty. With that said, now I can't even recognize myself with straight hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize and stop doing the most with your hair. DAILY hair acceptance is vital. One day my curls are popping, the next they are a little frizzy this means my fro is huge...I love to go with it. Love your hair! It's all yours. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Britany B. Miami, Florida. 2. What is your hair type? Medium/Fine strands, Medium/Heavy density. Type 4 Kinky, Curly, Coily.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My last relaxer was in August 2010. After 13 months of transitioning to natural, I “Big Chopped” in September 2011. What finally pushed me over the edge was just asking myself why not? Am I that ashamed to rock my own, textured hair, or love & take care of my own hair without the use of harmful chemicals? I tapped into the world of natural hair on Youtube and after seeing girls like me with shoulder length, relaxed, type 4 hair, cut and grow their natural hair to waist length, I was ready. I had never seen anyone with WAIST LENGTH/type 4 hair, yet it was all over Youtube! I soaked up every piece of knowledge, and realized how harmful chemical relaxers were anyway! God made no mistake when he made me, so I was ready to embrace the hair I was born with and grow it to the max! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Probably the beginning stages of my natural hair not being as long as I wanted, and that 1st, subconscious feeling before the “big reveal” and what people will think when they see me wear my natural hair for the first time. I hear people all the time say, it’s just hair, why are Black women making such a big deal?” It’s more than just hair…it’s a huge invisible bridge of self-doubt being crossed into true confidence. You really start to love every part of being a Black woman and appreciate how God intended for us to look. At least I do. Lol. I love my hair for what it is, does and what it doesn’t do and going natural definitely helped push that into the forefront. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash with a sulfate free shampoo once a week, or cowash with Tresemme Naturals if I haven’t used much gunky product like gel. I always opt for nature first before any “products.” So my water/vegetable glycerin mix for moisture and my Jasmine Mimosa Hair & Body Buttercream (www.theblackhairguru.com) as a sealant to lock in the moisture is what I typically reach for. My hair also likes Kinky Curly Knot Today straight out of the shower on T-shirt dried hair, Cantu Argan Oil Leave In, or Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I moisturize & seal daily to keep my hair supple and moisturized. When needed, I deep condition with an avocado/honey/olive oil mix for protein. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Take off satin scarf/bonnet, untwist/unbraid & style, bun or puff. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Moisturize & Seal in sections, braid or twist, occasional Castor Oil on scalp, bonnet or satin scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Rarely. The few times I actually have flat ironed (at home), the humidity ate my hair the same day. Lol. It’s not worth it to me to spend a million hours straightening my hair only for it to poof back out into the fro it wants to be. Plus, I don’t want to have to keep worrying about frizz all day. Keeping it straight is too much maintenance honestly. Lol! The one time I had the Dominicans blow my hair out was nice and it lasted, but they use A LOT of heat and I do not want to risk heat damage. The most I’d do, if anything, is tension blow dry my hair on a warm setting for a super cute, stretched, twist out or bantu knot out; with a heat protectant, of course!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I alternate between twist outs and braid outs often, so I’d say 2 to 3 times a week. But if you’re talking about braid extensions, probably once or twice a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Well both of them are great and they both serve different purposes. However I’d go with the Denman brush. My fingers usually act as my “wide tooth comb” so I can feel for tangles and what not. After finger detangling I’d use a modified Denman (2 rows of teeth removed) to further smooth my hair out. But I don’t Denman too much…too much unnecessary manipulation. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Both. Lol. I always try to tuck my hair away so it can just chill and get to waist length. Lol…but I love my ‘fros too! I feel prettiest when my hair is big and in a stretched flat twist out! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No. My hair, even while relaxed has always been pretty healthy. But hmmm…..As a matter of fact, now that I think about it…there was this one time in college when I had some rope twists in. I left them in for a month, thinking I was doing the right thing by giving my hair a break. Not. Lol. When I took them out I had a TON of dry, shed hair. After washing and drying, my relaxed hair felt limp and lifeless. I don’t go that long without moisture anymore. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Embrace your hair for what it is. It’s beautiful! Moisturize & seal, deep condition, utilize low manipulation/protective styles, drink plenty of water, and take multivitamins! No heat styling, and no chemical dyes or treatments. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc)

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Trudy Susan aka 4cHairChick. Born and raised in Washington state, but my parents are from Ghana West Africa. I claim both J 2. What is your hair type? 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I’ve been natural on and off my whole life, but 2011 is when I drew a line in the sand and committed to doing away with relaxers for good. I made the decision to stop relaxing my hair because a girlfriend of mine who wore her hair natural inspired me to give my real hair a try. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Overcoming insecurities I had swept under the rug. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I’m more of a bi-weekly gal when it comes to my hair. On washday I detangle, wash, hydrate and stretch my hair. The following day I style my hair and rock that style for the week. When the weekend comes I play in my hair, which usually means a twist out, or a curl set. Sunday night it’s back to a protective style until washday rolls around. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It truly varies. If my hair feels dry I spritz water. If I’m wearing a style that I want to keep stretched then I’ll use my Shea butter blend. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I silk wrap it up and I’m off to bed. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I’m not opposed to heat, but I’m cautious about the tools I use to apply heat and the temperature of the heat when I apply it. Occasionally I’ll do a tension blow dry on my hair, but when I use heat I prefer a hooded dryer.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I’m always switching my hair up so it’s hard for me to provide a direct answer on this. I do rock braids, but I rock twists more often. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Ekk, same response really on this as with the braiding question. I like to switch my hair up a lot so I rock my hair both ways it just depends on my mood. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I took a trip to Switzerland several years back for my cousin’s wedding. Prior to leaving I went to get my hair braided at an African Braiding Salon and the braider annihilated my hair. She used a rat tail comb to detangle, she blow dried at high heat…I should have walked out, but I needed my hair styled a specific way for the wedding so I had to endure the drama and basically cut off the damage after I took the braids out. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Drink a lot of water. More important than healthy or long hair though in my opinion is to focus on your personal esteem. Love yourself as you are and I have found that truly loving myself changed how I treat myself. I care about fitness, I care about what I eat and I care about how I look. Not for others, but for me. My natural hair journey reminded me to take care of my temple. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hi everyone! My name is Christine Louis-Jacques. I grew up in Massachusetts, and currently live in the Washington, DC area. 2. What is your hair type? If I have to categorize my hair, it would fall in the type 4 kinky curly. My texture is naturally made up of various curl patterns ranging from loosely curly toward the front and back of my head whole more thick in the middle. [Heather: I'm guessing 4A with some 4B?]
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
August of 2010, I did the big chop. Prior to cutting my hair, I was finishing my last semester as an undergrad. My hair was in a somewhat healthy state yet dull. I was spending so much money on relaxer to feel like my hair was “presentable,” to the outside world and myself. Naturally, I grew more and more curious about my natural texture. I had a few friends that were already natural, and speaking with them confirmed my decision to transition. I decided to go with the big chop after growing impatient of maintaining two different textures. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? A part of me was scared/nervous with how those close to me would receive it. Everyone has an opinion, and I had to listen to myself and go for it. Also, I was obsessed with YouTube. I was on there everyday for hours taking notes on products and styles before really understanding my texture. It got overwhelming in the beginning until I started finding out which products worked best for me. In my experience, it was mainly through final and error. It is still a learning process. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Hmm. Right now, my weekly regimen has been low maintenance. Less is more in my book. Sundays usually are my wash/deep condition/style days. During the week, I focus on maintaining moisture, by co-washing every 2-3 days. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I don’t really have a particular morning regimen. It all depends on how my hair is styled the night before. For example, if I am rocking a 2-day-old twist out or Bantu knot, I usually will spray my hair with a little water to give it life and then add a small amount of leave-in conditioner throughout my head and massage it onto my scalp. I will fluff out my curls with my pick, and I am out the door. On my more lazy days, I throw my hair in a puff. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nighttime regimen is pretty simple. I usually pineapple my hair and cover with a satin scarf. Other nights, if I want to maintain a style, I will re-twist/braid my hair, seal the ends with either jojoba or coconut oil and cover with a satin scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Every now and then, I will blow out my hair if I want to achieve a stretched out look. I have straightened my hair when getting trims.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? Yes, I have braided my hair. The last time, I had braids was a year ago. I don’t usually wear them often. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb. Lately, I have been showing my Denman brush a little bit more love. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Hmm. I would say it is normally loose. My go-to styles are 2 strand twists and Bantu knots. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Last summer, I straighten my hair for a trim. When reverting back to my curls, I noticed some heat damage in certain areas. Since then, I have been doing more protein treatments. I have an appointment soon to cut off my dead ends. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Patience! All hair grows at a different speed. Focus on maintaining somewhat of a consistent regimen, and see how your hair reacts to certain products. In my own experience, I went through a lot of trial and error to find out what worked best for me. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Victoria Sanders. I am from Washington DC & Alabama but I live in LA now. 2. What is your hair type? 3C
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I've been natural my entire life. Never ever had a relaxer or any other type of chemical alteration done to my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Well, since I didn't "go natural" I can't answer this. However, I can say this...Before being natural became such a phenomena it was VERY hard to find products that worked in my hair. I was extremely self conscious about my big, frizzy hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I start by deep conditioning weekly with a homemade concoction (1 egg, half a banana, olive oil, honey). I leave this on my hair for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Then I steam my hair with my Q-Redew steamer, then co-wash my hair with Heavenly Scents opulently organic conditioner (I mix about 2 tablespoons of castor oil in the jar). If I'm doing a WNG I'll use Kinky Curly Knot Today, coconut oil, and then scrunch with Curls gel. I normally co-wash my hair about 2-3 times a week depending on how dry I feel my hair is. And I steam my hair at least twice a week. Also, I follow the Curly Girl method, so I don't use shampoo or any products that contain silicones or sulfates. I make sure to get my ends trimmed when they need it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the mornings I take my pineapple down and refresh my curls by misting them with a little water & vegetable glycerin (that I mix in a spray bottle) and I'll pick my curls out a little. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If I have a wash and go, I simply pineapple and sleep on a satin pillowcase. I HATE scarves and bonnets, but I always sleep on my satin pillowcase. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat on my hair about once every 6 months or so, I will flat iron it to see how long it is. I only blow dry my hair if I'm in a complete rush and don't want to leave with my hair soaking wet.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I do braid my hair. Probably about once a year, I think it's a fun way to change it up a bit, and a great way to protective style. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? BOTH!!! Wide tooth comb to detangle (especially in the shower), and Denman to evenly distribute the product in my hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It's about 50/50. Whenever I'm home with nothing to do my hair is ALWAYS in a protective style. I only let my hair out if I'm going somewhere. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Hmmmmm...Not really a tragedy, but I did cut my hair about a year & a half ago & I HATED the growing out phase. It was really cute short, but it was hard to get past that awkward length. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Maintain a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. You can put nothing but great things on your hair, but if you are putting trash in your body, your hair will definitely suffer. Eat healthy, take vitamins, try not to stress, and work out. All of these things will help your hair grow and tay healthy much more than any product you can buy to put on it. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hey curl friends I am Rajeeyah Sahar and I am from Saint Louis, Missouri! 2. What is your hair type? I have two different curl patterns. The sides and back are 4b and the front and crown are 4c with an S curl.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I originally went natural back in 2007 when I decided to loc my hair. But I made the wrong decision to relax it after I combed my locs out in December of 2009. I wasn’t educated on the care and techniques for kinky hair. After wearing a relaxer for a year. I just got tired of the breakage and started watching Youtube videos and got the inspiration from some veteran naturals. I big chopped on Feb 19, 2011. It was the best conscious decision I’ve made. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about returning natural was finding hair styles during that awkward stage between 3-6 months. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep it simple with my regime and people are still amazed at how my hair stays so healthy. I shampoo every 2 weeks using my line of RSNs Cleansing Shampoo which is sulfate free. I deep condition every 2 weeks are well. I mainly use the LOC (Liquid, Oil, Cream) method which is applying water first, then an oil to seal, and finally a cream which is my Hy-Definition Twist Butter. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I wear my hair out a lot, so in the morning before work I untwist or unbraid my hair and apply an oil to it and GO. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I always wrap my precious curls with a scarf. It’s important to use a satin or silk scarf to allow moisture to get to your hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I very rarely use heat and when I do it just to lightly stretch my curls.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I don’t normally wear braids, but I am considering box braids this summer. I wear marley twists 3-4 times a year. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb and fingers for detangling. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is always loose, which is something I’m working on. Currently I have marley twists only because I couldn’t fit my afro under my graduation cap LOL. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OMG Don’t remind me LOL. 2 years ago I had to get 5 inches chopped off because my silly self decided to use bleach to lift my color. My poor ends were fried and I just said it’s better to have short healthy hair than long damaged hair. So My friend cut it off. After that I immediately started taking Hairfinity vitamins and it grew back very fast. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? The best advice I can give you for maintaining healthy or long hair is to deep condition and use protective styling always. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Donna Moody and I am from North Carolina but currently live in South Carolina. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 3c-4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went Natural in 2010. My best friend talked me into going natural. After many attempts, I decided to give it a try and I absolutely loved it! It was the best decision I made for hair! On July 27, 2014 I will be celebrating my 4th year anniversary of being natural. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was cutting my hair. I had transitioned for 6 months before I did the “Big Chop”. I knew ahead of time how much I had to cut. I only left about an inch to an inch and a half of hair on my head. I was in total shock for a minute but after getting myself together, I felt so refreshed! 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen changes from week to week. I try to make sure I apply oil and water daily to keep my hair to keep it moisturized. I like to wash my hair every other week to keep my natural oils in my hair. Some times when you shampoo too much, it will cause your hair to strip and dry out because you are washing your natural oils out. This is what causes build up. Another great tip I do during the week is the following: Apply a leave-in conditioner such as Cantu Shea Leave-in. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning, I use my spray bottle to midst my hair and I apply oil. Next, I use a moisturizing product or a leave-in before I style. This helps me manage my hair better. I love using Eco Styler Gel on my edges to keep them smooth. The one I use has the argan oil in it so it keeps my hair firm but not crunchy hard. Mostly during the week, I wear a lot of updos’. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night, I take down my hair and apply oil. I use a lot of oil in the spring and summer because the weather is hot and your hair needs a lot of attention. It screams out for moisture! Sometimes with the oil, I massage my scalp. If I am wearing a twist out the next day, I twist my hair in medium sections. If I am going to create an updo’, I just leave my hair loose and put on my satin bonnet. You never know how many times you toss to and fro at night, moving your head back and forth or side to side which causes your hair to rub against fabrics that cause breakage. Satin pillows are great or my satin bonnets. The key is to always protect your hair at night. It is so important. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat such as blow-drying, a few times a year. I only try to flat iron my hair once a year. I do not want to apply too much heat to my hair because I do not want to mess up my curl pattern or cause my hair to become so damage that I have to do the “BC” again. Too much heat is not good for natural hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? As we speak, I am trying my first braid out and I am super excited about it. I am normally a twist out girl. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? This is a hard decision but I will say a Denman brush because it helps detangle my hair really well. The brush is not left with all of my hair in it. I recommend this brush over any other brush. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I wear a lot of updos! I do love my twist-outs but I am known for creative updos’. My updos’ I create are not with hair extensions. I like to use my own hair because I have a good length and can achieve any style. If I decide to use any hair it would be Marley Hair because it is similar to natural hair. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I had a bad hair tragedy one time. I kept my hair in a protective style and I just kept applying gel and water each day. Because the style required me to roll my hair into one big role, my hair became locked up. It took me hours to detangle my hair and I felt like my hair was a lot thinner after detangling. I learned my lesson by making sure I focus on my hair just as much as my styles. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintain healthy hair or long hair is to deep condition, trim ends as needed, and keep your hair moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Bola Cooper and I am from South East London, UK. 2. What is your hair type? I would say 4C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to stop using relaxers in April 2011. I had been relaxing my hair for 10 years since I was 16. I decided to go natural for a number of reasons. Firstly I became consious of the influence I have upon my daugters. I wanted them to love and be thankful for the way God had made them but I knew that while I was relaxing my hair, I wasn't being truly happy and thankful for the hair I had been created with. So I wanted to set them a good example. Secondly I have really grown to love the beauty of natural hair. I wanted to learn how to look after my own natural hair instead of paying a hairdresser every 6-8 weeks to do my hair. I also became more aware of the potential health hazards with using such strong chemicals on my hair. I didn't want to continue to take that risk. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I would say in regards to my hair texture the most challenging thing is dealing with the tangles. I have up to 70% shrinkage. I'm still learning how to manage my hair so that it doesn't form too many tangles, especially on wash day. As my hair grows longer I have to change different apects of my regime in order to avoid tangles as much as possible. 5. What is your weekly regimen? At the moment I am: -Washing my hair with Sulphur 8 or Giovanni tea tree shampoo once a week. -Rinsing my hair with ACV (apple cider vinegar) once a week. -Deep conditioning after every wash or rinse with either my homemade mayo, yogurt and olive oil mix or Cantu sheabutter repair cream. -Moisturing my hair with my aloe vera gel mixed with water spritz and my homemade aloe vera leave-in conditioner a few times a week. I seal with whipped Shea butter or an oil (castor, almond or coconut oil) 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Nothing much really. I've done all the moisturising the night before so I usually just take of my silk scarf and adjust my hair. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If my hair is dry then I will moisturise and seal as mentioned above and then twist or flat twist my hair to hold the moisture in. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Very rarely. Maybe once or twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I never do braids. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I try not to use either. I usually finger detangle 95% of the time. If I use a comb it is usually a denman. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Because I have such high shrinkage and fine, fragile strands my hair is usually in a protective style of some sort. For example chunky twists or chunky flat twists. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No not really. The only thing that happened early on in my natural hair journey was when I used avacado in my hair as a deep conditioner but I didn't blend it properly so when it came to washing it out it was an absolute nightmare! I had to wash it 4 times and then blow dry my hair so I could pick out the pieces. I vowed never to use avocado in my hair again and I haven't since! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Listen to what YOUR hair needs and respond to it accordingly. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Lana and I'm from Maryland, right outside of Washington, DC. 2. What is your hair type? I have mostly 4a hair.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I had a lot of false starts on my natural hair journey, but I finally committed after realizing I needed to be the change I wanted to see in the world. I didn't want little girls growing up with hair insecurities and setting a healthy example for the next generation continues to motivate me. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Changing my perceptions regarding outward beauty was definitely the most challenging aspect. I literally had to un-brainwash myself from all the messaging I had received from the media. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash every other day. Religiously. The night before a co-wash, I sometimes slather coconut oil on my hair and sleep with a plastic cap and satin scarf. After I co-wash, when my hair is still wet, I use Hair Rules Curly Whip, sit under the dryer for about 20 minutes, and then go about my day. I use a creamy shampoo once a week or every other week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? On co-wash days, I hop in the shower, apply a conditioner, rake my fingers through my hair to define the curls, rinse the product out without touching my hair, shake my head like a wet dog, apply a generous amount of the curly whip in a smooshing downward motion, shake my head like a wet dog again, and sit under the dryer for about 20 minutes (this is my time to read the news, catch up on my emails, do a little work, etc). Afterwards, I use a blow dryer to blow my hair into a shape. On my non-wash days, I apply the Hair Rules hydrating cream, blow dry my hair to wake it up, and stretch out the curls using the tension method. This blow drying routine lasts about 2 minutes. My hair has never been so soft day in and day out. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I get sexy with a satin scarf LOL. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat on a daily basis via hair dryers/blow dryers and my hair is thriving. I don't personally subscribe to heat-free messaging. I tried it for a while and my hair was consistently dry. To each her own.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? Although I LOVE LOVE LOVE braided styles, my hair does not. My hair hates to be in braids for longer than two days. Hates it. So I've just learned to admire braided styles from afar and let my hair fly free. On days I do wear braids, it's typically when I'm wearing my Kurly Klips clip-in extensions. But since I take my Kurly Klips out before bed, it gives me the opportunity to take those braids out as well. I love this flexibility and my hair does too. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? WIDE TOOTH COMB LORD JESUS NOT THE DENMAN. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose but I do braid it up if I'm having a bad hair day and want to wear my Kurly Klips. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? A hair tragedy actually gave me the idea for Kurly Klips. I wanted an easy extension method that I could put in and take out whenever I like, and still have 24/7 access to my scalp. Find out more on my site: KurlyKlips.com. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Listen to your hair. Try to find a stylist (check out his/her reviews online) who understands your texture and can help you develop a regimen. My stylist created my current regimen and my hair is SO HAPPY these days. It's much healthier than when I was blindly following bloggers and vloggers. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Dominique Payne and I’m from Memphis, Tennessee. 2. What is your hair type? I have what you call “corkscrew” curls. My curl pattern is 3b/3c according to NaturallyCurly’s website.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started wearing my hair natural back in September 2011. That decision stemmed from the heat damage that I had at the time. Back then, I never really paid much attention to what I was doing to my hair health-wise. I would flat iron or curl my hair every other day, which eventually led to me having about 4 inches of heat-damaged ends. One day I woke up and decided to stop butchering my hair. My decision has paid off since then as I no longer battle with heat damage. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I remember having such a hard time trying to learn about all the different chemicals and ingredients that go into a product, and knowing how to distinguish between “good” ingredients versus “bad” ingredients. The truth is, there’s so much information on the chemical makeup of hair care products that it can sometimes get overwhelming. My simple solution starting out was to stray away from the main harsh detergents such as sulfates, parabens and silicones. Once I finally got into the groove of actually reading ingredients lists, it got a bit easier and I started incorporating my knowledge of ingredients into my purchasing decisions. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My regimen tends to change overtime. My current weekly routine is to cleanse and condition my hair on the weekends. To cleanse I use DevaCurl No-Poo and to condition I opt more towards DevaCurl One Condition, although I do use other conditioners from time to time. I do deep treatments every other week. One of my favorite moisturizers to use is Shea Moisture’s Thickening Growth Milk. I also like to style with a light defining gel by DevaCurl. I air-dry my hair throughout the day, which takes around 4 to 5 hours… My hair holds a lot of water (lol). Throughout the week, I apply water and oil as needed to prolong my wash and go. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Five days out of the week, I’m usually in a rush. So I have to be quick, especially since I’m not a morning person at all (lol). All I do is take my hair down from the pineapple, spritz a little water (if needed) and shake my hair. I like to call it my fluff n’ go! Literally, I’m done in less than 2 minutes! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night time regimen is even more simple than my morning regimen. I just put my hair up in a high ponytail at the top of my head (called a pineapple) and sleep on a satin pillowcase to prevent moisture loss and frizz. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No heat for me! In fact, the only heat that I will allow is from the sun or my hair dryer bonnet, which I only use for deep treatments. Both are indirect sources of heat. After my past experience with battling heat damage, I am all about protecting my hair from direct heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I very rarely braid my hair. If anything, I’ll do French braids or “Pocahontas” braids when I’m feeling cutesy or bored. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither. I prefer my fingers. Finger-detangling is the best! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Occasionally, I wear my hair up in a bun. But my hair is down 99.99% of the time because I like my hair BIG and wild! “Curly hair don’t care” is my motto! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I wouldn’t necessarily call this a hair tragedy. However, a few months ago I tried a protein treatment, which completely backfired on me. Afterwards, it left my hair feeling very stiff and hard for days. Once I did a deep moisture treatment, my hair bounced back to normal. That’s the beauty of trial and error with natural hair. Needless to say, I quickly learned my hair doesn’t require protein treatments. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? There’s so many tips on maintaining healthy hair and even more on how to maintain length. You just have to choose which ones work best for you or even create your own tips. What is more important to me is health. As long as your hair is healthy, it will grow. My biggest piece of advice would be to listen to your hair. It will tell you its needs, its wants and what it doesn’t like. Focus on YOUR hair. Don’t try to mimic others without reason. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
