1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Saran P King, I am from the beautiful twin island state of Antigua & Barbuda 2. What is your hair type? I have different types of hair on my head, from curly to kinky, 3C-4A in mostly in the front, sides and back and 4A/4B in the middle. My strands are thin and not very dense the colour ranges from dark brown to black (but not jet black)
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I was natural for my entire childhood and for most of my adult life. While in university I decided to texturize my hair on two separate occasions but I long term transitioned twice because of severe breakage 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Going natural wasn't a challenge for me since I was used to having my hair natural 5. What is your weekly regimen? At the moment, I normally use the curly girl method to inform my hair regimen. I wash my hair once a week with a cleanser and detangle once a week in 2 or 4 sections and finger detangling only. I pre poo my hair with a mixture of coconut, grapeseed and olive oils. I wash with the As I Am cowash coconut cleanser conditioner and rinse with warm water. Then I condition and deep condition (for at least 45 min -1hr) with the Hello Hydration Conditioner or any other deep conditioner I have and rinse with cool water. I seal in the moisture with grapeseed oil and shea butter and 2 strand twist with or without gel. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Every morning I mist my hair with just water and every few days after misting with water, I seal in the moisture with grapeseed or olive oil or shea butter 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night time regimen is similar to the morning regimen, except I tie my hair up with a satin scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I rarely use heat on my hair. Occasionally I may blow dry my hair on a low setting using the tension method. If I flat iron my hair, I also use a low heat setting and I use a heat protectant prior to the application of heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
If you are referring to extensions, I have only placed that in my hair once and I took them out after 6 days. If you are referring to my natural hair, I do that every few months because it takes a long time. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I rarely use detangling tools on my hair, I mostly finger detangle during, washing, conditioning and styling. If I do use one, it is to help to put my hair in a ponytail or lay down the edges using a denman brush. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is in a protective style, 99% of the time because my hair tangles easily, I try to protect the ends as much as possible. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My hair tragedy was when I texturized my hair a few years ago and I experienced severe breakage. In order to recover from that disaster, I washed and got my hair treated once a week. I wore a lot of protective styles and clipped off the texturized ends progressively; I was able to nurse my hair back to health after a year-long transition. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair would be to keep your hair sufficiently moisturized no matter how you wear your hair. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Crystal, and I am from Baltimore, Maryland. 2. What is your hair type? I'm not one who follows the hair typing rules. I just know my hair is super coily all over, with a looser curl pattern at the top of my head. Others have told me I'm a 4C, but I've never verified that.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I returned to fully natural in November 2011. I stopped getting relaxers in April 2011 because I had a severely dry and flaky scalp. I attributed that to relaxer and eventually just decided to see how long I could last without using relaxer. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Learning to deal with my hair. I was used to seeing my stylist bi-weekly, but when I went natural, I decided to maintain my own hair. I had to discover what products and methods worked best for me. I have learned to be much more patient. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I shampoo and deep condition my hair weekly. I do practice the LOC Method every time I moisturize to seal in the moisture. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I take off my bonnet, moisturize if needed, fluff, and go about my business. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I throw my bonnet and sleep well. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Occasionally. I've been unsuccessful with it when I did it on my own, so I let a professional heat style my hair now.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I try to throw in some marley twists up to three times a year. Just to give me a much needed break from managing loose hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb to detangle. Denman brush to detangle, remove any shed hair I missed with the wide tooth comb, and to smooth my hair before styling. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I mostly use protective styling in the colder months. I wear it loose during the warmer months. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I wouldn't call this a tragedy, but I decided to dye a patch of my hair blonde (I didn't dye it, a pro did), but that blonde was always so dry. No matter how much I moisturized it, it just felt rough. SMH. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? For healthy hair, I recommend moisturizing frequently with a water based product, but be sure to incorporate protein treatments for strength. Also, protective styling will help prevent breakage. 14. 3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I wanted to retain the healthy hair that I once had before I relaxed my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? At first I thought that it was when my hair was shorter but its at that in between stage. The shoulder length and with my hair type SHRINKAGE is not my friend so its challenging for me. I think it would be easier if I cut it short again. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash my hair twice a week and coat with the Jamaican Mango & Lime Alma Castor Oil and then I sometimes wear a twist out ponytail but for the most part I mainly wear protective styles like Faux Buns and Tree Braids. I also deep condition once a month when I am not wearing my tree braids. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I moisturize my scalp with a lavender oil spritz that I make for the kids and I. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I spray my hair with my lavender oil spritz and cover my hair with a satin cap. I also sleep with a satin pillow case on my pillow. This protects my hair when I wear my afro puffs and two strand twist. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Rarely. I get a blow out every two years for a week.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes. I wear tree braids for the majority of the year. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use a wide tooth comb. I don't like Denman brushes on my hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Both! The last year I wore more protective styles to retain length. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Ensuring that your ends are clipped, moisturizing your hair and deep conditioning. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Tricia Montaque from West Palm Beach, Florida. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type in 4C kinky.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I big chopped on 24-Feb-13. I was going through a lot and just wanted something different so I went for it. In addition, the weekend before I had seen a lot of girl rocking curls which is what convinced me that I could do it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing is learning to take care of your hair all over again since it now requires more moisture and work. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wouldn’t say I have a weekly regimen but I make sure to keep my hair moisturized. When I wash it, I make sure I seal it to help retain moisture. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually just spray my hair with curl refresher or braid spray and some oil if needed. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night time I use a heavier moisturizer to moisturize my hair. If i'm wearing it out I will braid or twist it to keep my length or section it, then throw a silk sleeping cap on. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I rarely use heat on my hair. I’ve had my hair straightened once. The only other time I use heat is at the hair dresser's when I go under for my deep condition. Outside of that I keep heat away from my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair maybe once a month without extensions. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use a wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It’s a mixture. I usually wear my hair in twists or braids for a week or two then wear it as a twist out. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Well, my hair started to lock when I had comb coils in after only a week. Thought I was going to cute some section. After drenching my hair with a detangler I was able to get then completely loose then did a deep treatment. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? To maintain healthy hair you have to make sure you keep your hair moisturized. Without moisture your hair is bound to have breakage issues. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is JayQuan Nance (JayyPinkk) and I'm from Tallahassee, Florida. 2. What is your hair type? 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural the day of my senior prom; April 25, 2012. I had been thinking about it and while getting my hair done my hair dresser helped push me into my decision and "snip snip"! Now I did grow my hair for a year in plaits and twist. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I think laziness, like not wanting to protect it every night or re twist it or maybe finding styles that fit you. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Co-wash, plait, hair dry, L.O.C. method, and style. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Undone the twist/plaits, shake, pick, and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Chunky twist to stretch my hair and my silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Probably once a month sometimes twice.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I don't do braids but I love doing twists. I normally do them like 2-3 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both, my hair is SUPER thick. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I think it's a good mix of both; I'll normally do 2-3 months protected and 1 month loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I first went natural I made it to 6 months and decided to flat iron my hair. I think it was fine at first but I just kept straightening it and I created heat damage and so came BC número two. I was sad at first but I just twisted up until I started missing Veronica (my hair). 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Take care of your ends! Clip them and keep them moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Sasha Manley from Hampton, Va living in Charlotte, NC :) 2. What is your hair type? That's a good question lol My hair is definitely a mixture of the 3 types. It's straighter on top and more kinky on the sides.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural nearly 13 years ago because of a bad perm. I was actually long over due from ditching perms. I've always worn rodded and curly styles 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing in my opinion is learning your hair. Those of us that go natural have been use to permed hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash and deep condition on Sundays depending on my schedule and wear it in a protective style until it's almost wash day. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually have a light oil to freshen up my twists 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If needed light moisturizer and a satin scarf 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? The only heat that goes on my hair is when I'm deep conditioning
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I haven't had braids in years. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? The wide-tooth comb and I are besties. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Most recently it's been in a protective style. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Over the past two years I've noticed my hair changing. My texture changing. It caused me to kinda go back to scratch with respect to products and styling techniques. I felt it was a tragedy in the beginning lol but I've learned to just embrace the change. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Patience and appreciating your own hair. There is so much hairspiration out there and we sometimes lust over it and forget our own beauty. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hey I am Lorien, I live in the West Midlands area, more so Birmingham UK. 2. What is your hair type? I generally don't categorise my hair in the 'hair typing' system, I never use it to determine what I should use in my hair. But I do have fine hair with a lot of density.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural about three years ago, this was my second time around. I spent more of my childhood and adult years being natural rather than relaxed. I generally get frustrated with my relaxed hair. I was never a fan of straight hair and felt the only way to get curly hair was not to relax it. However, when I first went natural, there wasn't all these great resources available. At the time regimen and products were not a priority; I didn’t know anything about retaining or sealing in moisture or natural hair products. I just used the same products I use when I was relaxed. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I would say the most challenging thing for me is managing the recurring split ends I encounter since going natural. It has always been an issue for me and I struggle to control them even with trims hence I don’t retain as much length in the three years as I would have liked to. 5. What is your weekly regimen?
6. What is your daily morning regimen? Hmm not much of a morning regimen but I spray my hair with my little concoction of aloe vera juice, coconut oil, olive oil and water and that's it and that’s sometimes when I remember! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? The same as the morning, hair is spritz then I sleep on a satin pillow case or I sleep in a satin cap. If my hair was out all day I would just spritz and re-twist 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No! I've only blow dry my hair once in the last three years and I've never straighten it. Not that I would discourage anyone from straightening their hair but I have very fine hair so I don't bother, further to that, I rather my hair curly than straight
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Braiding?! Hmm not much, limited manipulation is done to my hair. I occasionally will do a style that involves a little braiding at the side, back or front but that's it 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I have recently adopted the finger detangling method before that my preference was the wide tooth comb but for whatever reason I own two Denman brushes. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Work it would most likely be in twist, weekends or going out loose 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No I can’t think of any in the last three years. When I first went natural, I remember using a lot of bleach and colour, as a result my hair was just breaking or rather coming out. Can’t remember what I did to recover, as at those times I didn’t know what I know now. I probably put it extensions (braids) and let it grow it out. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? I don’t know about tips for long hair as I haven’t reached that ‘long hair stage’ yet but my tip for healthy hair is having patience with your hair, develop a regimen and get to know your hair, then you know what it needs e.g. a trim, more or less moisture. Also a healthy diet helps a lot with healthy hair; a lot of people tend to forget this. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Nia Everal and I am from London, UK 2. What is your hair type? I would say my hair type is mostly 3C
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in March 2010 because my mum had gone natural (I was envious of her curls) and I was becoming increasingly more aware of black hair politics. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Discovering techniques and products that will work for my texture - natural hair is so individual I tried so many products and techniques until I finally found out what worked for me. No one YouTube Guru or blog or book will give you all the answer you just have to keep trying and modifying tips and techniques. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Shampoo my hair once a week with Shea Moisture African Black Soap Shampoo. I follow that up with a conditioning treatment my favourites are the Twisted Sista Hair Masque and Cantu Shea Butter Hair Masque. I usually wear my hair curly so to style my hair damp using leave-in conditioner and curl creme. I not a big fan of gels as it weighs down my curls and makes my hair crunchy although curl cream lack the longevity. Currently I’m using the Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier Leave-in and Curly Curl Cream. I sometimes use Castor Oil to seal my ends. I co-wash when my curls need revitalising and moisturising. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Spray some leave-in conditioner and water through my hair and clean up my edges with some gel or edge control products. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I pineapple my hair to keep definition and use a satin head scarf to keep my hair moisturised. I sleep on a satin pillowcase just in case the scarf slips off. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat on special occasion and to length check.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither really. I prefer to finger detangle with conditioner preferably but if I had to choose one I’d say a wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I usually wear my hair loose in a wash and go style. I find that twists and braids don’t last well in my hair and therefore aren’t worth the effort. I sometimes do bun and tuck and roll hairstyles though. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I’ve suffered from heat damage after straightening my hair from wet. I just kept trimming my hair and apply protein treatments to repair the damage. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keep you hair well moisturised and conditioned. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is MoniQue Highsmith and I am from Philadelphia, PA. 2. What is your hair type? I have 4b/c hair
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I began my transition in October 2011. I wanted to go natural because I researched the ingredients in perms and I discovered that some of the same chemicals that are in perms, could be use for household cleaning products. My hair was heat and color damaged, and I wanted my hair back to health again. My ends were shedding constantly and I wanted a change, and I made that change 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Trying to find the products that worked for my hair texture/type. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Moisturize (spray bottle: water, leave in conditioner, grapeseed oil, coconut oil), seal with shea butter and twist. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depends. If I am rocking a twist out, I put coconut oil on my hands and take down my twists. If I have a protective styles in, I moisturize with my spray bottle mixture and oil. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Moisturize and twist or moisturize and do the band method. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Nope. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally loose nowadays. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes. When I first went natural, I got "scissor happy." I cut off with the color I had left my hair and it was frustrating because my hair was uneven. I wanted to go to the salon and get it even again but I wanted to avoid it. Luckily, thank you for Youtube, I learned how to trim my hair properly :) 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize, protective styles, deep condition, and cleansing your scalp every month. PATIENCE IS KEY! 14. Where can we find you online?
