1. What's your name and where are you from?
I'm Jasmine but call me Jas. I live in Cleveland, OH 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 3c/4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural almost 5 years ago. I damaged my hair so much between relaxers and hair dye. I just wanted my hair to be healthy. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Being patient was hard for me. Natural hair takes so much more time and product. It's frustrating sometimes; you really have to take care of it. 5. What is your weekly regimen? The most important thing in my regimen is deep conditioning weekly. I try to only do my hair once a week and maintain that style so I don't have much manipulation. Moisturizing every other day is important 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Hope for the best when I take my scarf off 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I use silk or satin pillow cases. I use a bonnet and/or scarf every night. And I moisturize as needed. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I haven't flat ironed my hair in 6 months and I don't plan to again for a long time. I do blow-dry my hair when ever I want to add some stretch to a style. I try to use the cool setting.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I braid my hair. Very often, more times than I count. I don't trust others to braid my hair because I don't want it too tight so I braid my own hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both, But the Denman is definitely number one on my list. I use my Denman on wet hair and the wide tooth comb if I ever comb out on dry hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Half and half, but I want to start doing more protective styles to keep my ends covered. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I would say my relaxers were a tragedy. Coloring my hair blonde was the worst mistake I've made. My hair doesn't do well with hair color. I had to keep cutting the damaged hair to recover from it. It wasn't worth it. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Deep conditioning and keeping your hair moisturized are very important when it comes to retaining length as well as maintaining the health of your hair. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Shaakira Barber. I’m originally from Louisville, KY 2. What is your hair type? 3C/4A
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
Surprisingly, this is my second time going natural. My grandmother wore a big afro in the 60’s and I came across a photo of her and saw the resemblance of our facial features and fell in love. From that moment on I knew I wanted to keep my natural look. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing would be maintaining a straight and sleek hairstyle. Often times when I get my hair pressed it only lasts for that day, due to humidity here in the south. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen consists of washing my hair with Taliah Waajid Clean N Curly Shampoo, The Great Detangler & The Curly Curl Sealer for my wash and gos. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily regimen consists of Lou Ana’s Coconut Oil, African’s Best Herbal oil and oil infused (Argan Oil) water sprayed onto my hair everyday for styling. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night time regimen consists of using a satin bonnet and satin pillow to sleep on in case it decides to slip off. I tend to be a wild sleeper. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I rarely use heat on my hair. Since I’ve been natural I’ve only straightened my hair twice.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do braid my hair. I love the box braid protective style, Havana twists and the braided Mohawk hairstyles. I get my hair braided 5-7 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I love my Denman Brush! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? The only hair tragedy I’ve experienced is when I went to the barber to get my afro “trimmed”. I got out of the chair looking like I was a part of the Jackson 5! It was a clean cut and beautiful for that particular moment. The following week I washed my hair and noticed that majority of my loose curls were saturated due to getting the cut. In order to fully recover my hair, I went straight to the box braid protective style, took plenty of biotin and massaged my scalp with coconut oil, to ensure it would grow back to its natural state. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip would be less manipulation of the hair, drink plenty of water and eat a healthy balanced diet. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Well hello there! I'm Bethany Kronick from Connecticut 2. What is your hair type? Tight 4a Coils
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
March 12th 2015 // My relaxed hair was constantly breaking no matter how well I took care of it. So after having some major breakage from protective style gone wrong, I chopped. I was 5 months post-relaxer. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I've never had a high self esteem. So being that my hair was then very short and my curls didn't pop up right away, it was hard not to feel like a boy sometimes. 5. What is your weekly regimen? It changes depending on my hair needs but I'll typically 1) Shampoo or Cowash 2) Detangle 3) Deep Condition and 4) Style. I will add a clay mask and protein or hot oil treatments to those steps as needed. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Edge control and fluff for pretty much every style; Wash and go, braid-out, twist-out, puff...etc. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I plan ahead. Whenever I style I make sure I have enough moisture in my hair so I don't have to remoisturize between styling. So at night I just put in a silk scarf a hit the hay. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do and always with a heat protectant.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes // I can't count really. I love braid-outs. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. The closest I get to protective styling is mini twists. But I do those often. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Tragedy? No. Set back? Yes. // Breakage from color damage and tight flat twists. // It's still a work in progress. But mostly patience and having constant good hair habits. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Regular deep conditioning with products that work for your hair can make or break your hair. Literally. If you don't deep condition, your hair journey will fail. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Graham and i live in Germany 2. What is your hair type? My hair is curly and it's a mix between type 3 & 4
3. When did you start taking a keen interest in your hair?
I have always been interested in hair ever since I was little, but I really started to take care of my hair in around 2012. 4. Are there any challenges in being a man that's fanatical about hair? For me not really. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair, condition, deep condition, detangle apply a leave-in a curly definer and a oil. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I release my hair from a pineapple, shake it and use my afropick for volume. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I make a very high ponytail also known as the pineapple and wear a satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use a blow dryer on medium to low heat once a week to dry my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair?
I sometimes wear cornrows or two side braids as a protective style or just if i'm lazy, lol. 10. What is your favourite hair tool? Definitely my Afropick. 11. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? It's may not a tragedy but i just recently had a not so great hair situation when i bleached my hair, i wanted to go lighter in color for a very long time so i thought why not do it now, so i went totally blonde. I went to a hairsalon and after bleaching my hair i went home but at home i noticed my hair looks yellow, so i went back and they toned my hair. And then after about 5 weeks of being blonde i went to a beauty supply store bought a dark color and dyed my hair back to black. And now i'm deep conditioning as much as i can to recover from all the coloring and bleaching. Now i learned the lesson that blonde is not for me. 12. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Deep condition twice a week at least once a week, use a light weight oil every or every other night before going to bed and take some biotin or hair vitamin pills. 13. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Taylor (or you can call me Taylie) and I'm from Virginia. 2. What is your hair type? I am in the 4 family. I have 4a in a small patch in front and nape of my neck and the rest is a mixture of 4b/c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in my senior year in high school (2011). I did it because my hair had started breaking off severely from a perm that I didn't properly care for. I started doing my research and decided to transition. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Hmmmm, probably all the trial and error that takes place. All the time and money spent trying to find the right products and regimen that suits your hair can be frustrating and expensive. That's the part I hated. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I cowash once a week and deep condition on the weekends. I try to keep my hair in protective styles and out of the way so that it's safe from harm of the elements and the fact that I play in it all day lol 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If my hair is in a braid out or twist out, I coat my hands with coconut oil and untwist my hair then style and go. If I'm being lazy, which is most of the time, I throw on one of my wigs and go about my day. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Ughhh I hate doing my hair at night! But usually, I spritz my hair with a little bit of water and follow up with an oil or moisturizer depending on what my hair needs and I proceed to style. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I blow dry my hair a couple of times a month when I wanted a stretched style. I rarely straighten my hair, maybe every two years or so.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Maybe like once a year. I just don't like the amount of time it takes to do individual braids. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both, but I've been trying to use tools less and my fingers more. It's more gentle on your hair that way. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective! I loooooove protective styles because it keeps my hair safe from wear and tear, it's not bothering me and it make my morning and night time routines easier. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I got a perm one week and put braids in the next. Dumbest thing I've ever done. When I took those braids out a month later, so much of my hair came out with it. That's when I began to transition to natural. I also got heat damage my sophomore year in college, but I just took that as an opportunity to cut my hair off and try something new. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Paying attention to your hair and keeping it moisturized. Know when its time to give your hair a break, know when you need your ends trimmed and know when you need intense treatments. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

My name is Kelsey Janae and I am from Atlanta by way of the Bronx, New York 2. What is your hair type? I don’t really like to hair type but if I had to guess, I would say 3c to 4a
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2010 and I was inspired by Brittany “Bre” Scullark from ANTM. I was obsessed with her hair and how she wore her big beautiful curls so proudly, and I wanted to do the same. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? In the beginning the most challenging thing for me was finding the right products and coming up with a regimen that worked for me. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen consists of deep conditioning once a week and co- washing every three days. I normally rock a wash n go. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I keep my hair regimen really simple. In the morning I take my hair out of a pineapple (high loose ponytail) and I refresh my curls using my hand held steamer. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nightly routine is simply putting my hair in a pineapple and I always sleep on a satin pillowcase 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat on my hair but not often.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?

My hair is normally loose 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I have had a hair tragedy… a couple lol. Deep conditioning! It is key for healthy hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Olivia Johnson and I am from Detroit, MI. 2. What is your hair type? I have 3! I am mostly 4C but I also have 4A (in the front and sides of my hair) and 4B (in the back of my hair) textures.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2012. I wore my hair in a lot of twist outs during the summer to give my hair a break from heat, not realizing that was the beginning of me transitioning lol. After a few months with no heat, I was inspired by a couple of natural hair gurus on Youtube and that is when I decided to really go natural. I was tired of straightening my hair. I hated the process actually, but back then I felt like if my hair was straightened I was more beautiful and would be accepted more. I decided to make my own beauty standard and didn't care what others thought anymore. Here is my hair story
4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing for me was learning how to care for my hair. I never actually did my hair in it's natural state, I only knew how to do my hair straightened so I literally had to learn how to do my hair as an adult and I had to figure out what worked and what didn't work for my hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash or co-wash my hair weekly or bi-weekly, depending on if I have a lot of product build up or not. I usually pre-poo before washing my hair to make detangling easier. Most of the time I will two-strand twist my hair or wear an updo until my next wash. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Before leaving the house I make sure I apply moisturizer. Since I have type 4 hair it is essential that I moisturize daily, so I refresh my hair with a moisturizing mist or cream. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Before bed all I do is put a bonnet on, or I'll just sleep on a satin pillowcase. I only twist my hair the day I wash it, I do not twist my hair every night. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes I blow dry my hair. The very first year I did not use any heat at all, I just let my hair air dry. Now I blow dry my hair twice a month at the most. I have a lot of shrinkage, so if I want to wear a certain style I will blow dry my hair first to stretch it. I love how my twist outs look when my hair is blow dried first because my hair looks really fluffy and it is easier for me to wear updos when my hair is blow dried. Check out my blow-drying routine here
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do not braid my hair, I haven't had it braided since going natural actually. I do want to start wearing braid outs though, so I will start braiding my hair soon. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I haven't had a hair tragedy while natural, but when I used to straighten my hair I broke my hair off and damaged my hair by using way too much heat. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisturize, low manipulation and trim when necessary. I do not detangle my hair everyday and I do not detangle when my hair is dry, that can cause a lot of breakage. I also do not wear super tight hair styles that will pull at my edges. Keeping your hair moisturized will keep you from experiencing breakage, especially in harsh summers and winters. Also, a lot of people aren't retaining length because they trim their hair too much. On average, hair grows a half inch a month, if you are trimming every 3 months you are trimming your growth; half an inch a month x 3 months = 1.5 inches every 3 months on average, so if you are trimming too much you probably won't see growth. I always tell people to TRIM WHEN NECESSARY. If you go 3 months and you don't need a trim, then don't trim. If you take good care of your edges and moisturize often, you will find that you won't need to trim your hair as much. Keep and eye on your ends and make sure you are keeping them healthy. Ends are the oldest part of our hair so they are more susceptible to breakage and damage. On the other hand, if you are not trimming your hair when you need to you also won't see growth. Your hair will break off really easily and you will not retain your length, so keep an eye on your hair and trim when you know you should! 14. Where can we find you online?
