1. What's your name and where are you from?
Joanna and I am from beautiful Spice Isle Grenada. 2. What is your hair type? I am type 4b/4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2010. I always loved my natural hair; I was natural all the way to my high school graduation. That was actually when I went to the hair stylist to get a texturizer to soften my hair, let's just say it did not go too well. She had me rushing to the sink to try to wash the texturizer out when she realized it was just a few minutes and my hair was completely straight so since the damage was already done I just kept it and decided maybe I should try this relaxer thing for a while. After about a year and a half I big chopped and went back natural but that lasted only 7 months because I had an event to attend and was about to start university and decided to relax again to make it easier. Then 5 years later I was missing my hair a lot and decided I will return to my natural tresses. So 2010 I big chopped again and never looked back. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? It can be time consuming if you really follow up all the things you may want to do with your hair. With school it is challenging at times since I prefer deal with my hair myself but with time being a factor I sometimes have to get it done at a salon, and that is not my preference. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Moisturize, moisturize and leave my hair alone. Pre-poo, wash, condition, herbal tea rinses, deep condition if it is a wash week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Spritz my hair with my leave-in conditioner concotion and seal in the moisture. But that is when I have an ideal week, but truth be told...sometimes my hair goes days without remoisturizing it. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Well basically put on my satin bonnet and that is it. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes I do once a year. I blow out and flat iron my hair for my annual length check on Dec 31st.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes protective styles are important to me especially as a student. So I utitlize braids quite a lot. I braid my hair on often 3-5 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide tooth comb currently. I used Denman brush when my hair was much shorter. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Well a bit of both..but more so protective do, especially in recent times. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Well not much of a tragedy but getting my hair braided my a hair stylist during the process realizing that I made a mistake since my hair was not being handled the way it should have been. Only to realize when taking out the braids a month later a small patch of hair in the middle of my head was broken really bad..like 6 inches gone. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? As I am in the health field I always speak about the balance of a healthy body and achieving healthy hair. Our hair grows from our scalp and our scalp is part of our body which means that how we care for our body can affect the health and length of our hair. I believe there should be a balance, buying products and grooming your hair is essential but it is also important to take care of your body to maximize your hair health and length potential. So ensuring that we have a balanced diet, have our recommended daily intake of water, multivitamins if necessary, exercise, good hair practices and hair products can all aid in achieving healthier, lengthier hair. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Kayedee (CurliKay) and I'm from the most beautiful island in the southern Caribbean, Grenada. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is between 3C and 4A.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I returned natural because not only was my relaxed hair boring, I wanted to lead a healthier life, mind, body and soul and well chemicals don't fit into that mix so I returned natural, embracing my curls on October 22, 2013. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging for me would be detangling especially when I wore my hair loose for a period of time. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep my regimen simple: I shampoo, condition and deep-condition my hair weekly. I interchange every week between a green-tea rinse and an apple cider vinegar rinse. I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to seal directly out of the shower and my whipped shea butter to lock all that good stuff in, then allow my hair to air dry and style as desired after an hour or so. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning I simply fluff my hair out if I am wearing it loose and if not then I use a toothbrush to get my edges to lay down and I'm good to go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nighttime routine consists of re-moisturizing my hair using the L.O.C method focusing mainly on my ends and sleeping with a satin bonnet or scarf, this depends on the hairstyle that I have. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Since returning natural, I have never used heat, not even from a blow dryer or a steamer. But I do intend to flat-iron my hair one day.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes, I braid my hair. I did it more often when my hair was shorter but now that it's basically shoulder length I don't as much so I would say I braid it once or twice a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both but lately I've been leaning more to the Denman brush because it helps detangle my hair better and not leaving that much knots for me to undo with my hands. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Being honest this is equally done because I wear my hair one week twisted and the next week loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, my dye went wrong. I was trying to dye my hair purple and so I bleached my hair. I didn't get the color I wanted and was left with extremely dry and brittle hair that started to break. Well after numerous deep-conditioning sessions I just decided to chop most of the ends off and dye it black and continue deep-conditioning and moisturizing and after a while it felt better, healthier. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip would be to always keep your hair moisturized, never allow your hair to get dehydrated, because it would eventually lead to breakage and that's not what we're looking for in a healthy hair journey. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Kerri. I was born in Trinidad and live in the Spice Isle Grenada. 2. What is your hair type? I would have to say 4C mostly as it varies between the front and the back.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I first went natural in 2009, I had bra strap length locs then I cut it all off and remained natural. I was tired of chemicals and I wanted to get to know my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Probably styling, as I am not that good with plaiting, so my biggest challenge has to be styling and to a lesser degree product availability. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Co-wash and treatment (usually DIY homemade treatment), and twist. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I try to maintain the same style for the entire week, so on average it's spritzing with my oil mixture and some eco styler gel to tame the frizz. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Apply some moisturizer and tie with a silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I have used heat before but I don't like the waiting game of my hair returning all coily, so I don't intend to again!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I do braids as a protective style, no more than twice a year. Doing this more frequently wreaks havoc on my edges. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I used to use a wide-tooth comb before but was recently gifted a Denman brush and I intend to stick with it. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I am not a big fan of protective styles, and prefer to wear my hair loose. However, I do use protective styles when my hair needs a rest. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OH YES!!! I colored my hair and I don't know if the color was not applied properly or if I did not treat it enough or what exactly, but my hair started breaking terribly. To remedy the situation.... I did BIG CHOP # 2. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Learn your hair and what works for YOU. Develop your own regime and stick to it. 14. 3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I big chopped in August 2009 because I was bored with relaxed hair and wanted to switch things up a bit. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? In the beginning, it was challenging to keep my hair moisturized because I was having issues with highly porous strands. Once I figured out the cause and how to remedy it, I haven't really had any issues. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I tend to cleanse my hair every 10-14 days. I start off with a pre-poo, then I wash & deep condition. I allow my hair to dry in a t-shirt for a bit and then I proceed to moisturize, seal & style. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If I'm wearing a twist out, I untwist, shape and go :) If I'm wearing a twisted updo, I smooth my edges and use a moisturizing spritz all over. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I re-moisturize (if necessary), retwist and wear a satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat sparingly. I have my hair blown out about 3 times a year when I get professional trims.

I try to balance wearing my hair loose and in protective styles. I'd say my hair is probably out 60% of the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Thankfully, I've never had a hair tragedy. I've had a few style fails, but nothing tragic. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keep your hair conditioned and moisturized, and get trims as needed. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
