1. What's your name and where are you from?
Whitney Rene and I currently live in North Hollywood,CA 2. What is your hair type? I typically don’t categorize my hair by type because it hasn’t specifically helped me in my journey. BUT if I had to, I would say it’s 3C-ish.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I have been fully natural since late 2005. Right before “going natural”, I had gotten my hair done by a new stylist. I wanted blonde highlights and a straight bob. Because I was young and didn’t know a lot about really taking care of my hair it started to break off severely. I had always had long, healthy hair before this so I stopped going to her and me and my sister started doing our own relaxers. I started noticing that I could get my hair just as straight no matter how much new growth I had so we would do our relaxers less frequently. At this time, I loved getting my hair cut/trimmed and one day I noticed the hair at the nape of my neck was starting to curl. My “going natural” journey was really natural. I didn’t intend on “going natural” and I’m pretty sure it didn’t even have a name at that point lol. But what I did know is that I didn’t need to put chemicals on my hair for it to do what I wanted it to do. I was still wearing my hair straight at this time and getting it cut regularly (I wore a bob for a while) which eventually led to me having no more relaxed hair! Here is the Youtube video of my natural hair journey:
4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing has been finding the right products and the right routine. Also, the amount of time it takes can get really hard. Having damaged, lifeless hair was so much easier! JK, but it’s really a commitment and like anything else—greatness takes time. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I’ve gotten my hair down to a science now. I know what it likes and what it doesn’t. And what it can handle, which is really important. I typically co-wash and deep condition (moisturizing conditioner every week, add protein conditioner every other week), twist outs are my go to style. I play around with the pattern and products I use. And I also alternate between rolling the ends on flexi rods and leaving my natural curl. I have also mastered my wash n go but it doesn’t last as long so I go for the twist out if I don’t want to have my hands in my head every couple of days. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I will add a little coconut oil or olive oil once I take off my silk scarf and I will use a handheld dryer to reshape my hair. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I usually just pineapple my hair and sleep with a silk scarf or bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat to deep condition and when I use a handheld dryer. I use the handheld to get the shape I want, stretch my roots a bit and to make it have that “not so perfect” look
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I will get my hair braided or twisted from time to time. Maybe twice a year, but it’s not a ritual. I do it when I really get the urge to cut or color my hair OR if I just don’t want to do it. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I am more of a Denman brush/tangle teaser girl. My hair doesn’t really like combs. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? 99.9% of the time my hair is loose. I love protective styles like braids and twists but sometimes the synthetic hair irritates my skin and that’s no good. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Not really a tragedy but have made several mistakes along the way. The biggest one recently was bleaching the ends of my hair right when I was really retaining good length. I already know my hair doesn’t respond well to bleach so I just cut those ends off myself and kept it moving. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Find a good routine and stick to it. Try low manipulation styles. Keep it moisturized and detangled! Don’t watch it grow. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Kaitlan. And I'm a California girl, born and raised. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is mostly 3c, 4a.... Maybe a little 4b.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I've actually always been natural but when I grew up pressing your hair was the business so it wasn't until about 3 years ago that I decided to see what my curls looked like. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Figuring out what products to use and how to make styles last. The struggle was and still is REAL lol 5. What is your weekly regimen? I alternate between shampooing and cowashing and I deep condition weekly. I style and usually the style lasts me all week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It's quite simple: I just spritz with water and fluff my hair with a pik. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I just put my bonnet on and get some sleep. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I haven't since I cut my hair and I don't intend to, so I guess I could say no.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I want cornrows SO BAD right now. But I typically do a protective style once a year. Last time I had Marley twists. And I've been using my natural extensions quite often to give my hair a little break. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I typically finger detangle but definitely a Denman brush when needed. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose; Gotta let the curls breathe! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? YES! A few years ago I decided to go blonde. I'm not sure what I was thinking but my hair became BONE STRAIGHT. So I transitioned for a year and then couldn't deal with both textures so a year ago I big chopped. Best thing I decided to do. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Be consistent, deep condition and drink water. And focus on what works for YOUR hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Maegan Ella and I am from Los Angeles, CA. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a 3C- Curly Coily! Fine Strands all packed together!
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went completely natural in June 2014 and big chopped. I’ve never had a relaxer, but had been pressing/Flat ironing my hair since I was 12! I went natural because I was so tired of being “perfect” all the time. Making sure that my hair had that deep press, frying it once a week and always having to have 100% Indian hair extensions that always cost a pretty penny. Trying to “fit in” and please people that had nothing to do with my inner happiness. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was understanding that your hair will go through so many different stages whether you big chop or transitioned. You have to remember, the hair you have now is the true essence of you, not a quick fix perm or flat iron…you have to devote extra time and dedication to see good results. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Oh my! It changes every few weeks now! Lol! My current weekly regimen consists of me conditioning my hair at least two times a week while adding a small amount water to it everyday. I also add Shea Moistures Raw Shea Butter Extra Moisture Transitioning hair milk for added moisture. I try not to apply too much product all at once because I add some form of product everyday and don’t want it to weigh it down. Separate my hair into many small sections and add Eco Styler Gel. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? WATER! I found that my hair NEEDS a lot of water! I like to wet it in the morning while in the shower and apply a small amount of eco Styler gel to eliminate extra frizz. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nighttime regimen is very simple. I separate my hair with two loose hair ties and throw on a satin bonnet over it. Temperatures change throughout the night that can also affect your hair, so keeping the bonnet on will never compromise the moisture of your hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Unfortunately, I do...but I am changing that now. I am a corporate spokesperson for a major automotive company (…when I’m not talking to my MegaDolls on my youtube channel, Maeganswayinla)… and sometimes will slightly flat iron the hair near my edges to make the wig appear as real as possible. Currently looking into a wig with bangs to completely take all heat out of my regimen.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I don’t braid my hair at all. I definitely want to try it in the near future. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? If I have to choose, it would be the Denman brush… but I mainly use my fingers to detangle. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Funny you ask, this is a really fun time for me. I am literally getting out of wearing my hair loose so much to playing with protective styles. So much fun! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I’ve never really had a hair tragedy. I’m thinking about coloring my hair soon…let us all hope for the best! Lol. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Do your research. Find out the porosity of your hair & hair type. Once you have an idea of what you’re working with, Invest only in products that you know will work for your specific hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

Kisha L'ray, Los Angeles, CA, USA. 2. What is your hair type? 4C
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
About 3 years ago, I wanted to embrace what God gave me! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Honestly nothing really, I decided from the beginning to be patient and enjoy the process of finding what would work best for my hair :) 5. What is your weekly regimen? I usually like to leave my hair in a protective style and take it down weekly for a good deep conditioning, a wash if its that time. Then I love to apply my favorite oils, essential oils, and shea butter for moisture on damp hair! 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Spritz it with water if it's feeling dry, apply oils if needed. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I make sure I wrap my hair up each night with a satin scarf and I like to spritz it with water for added moisture before wrapping. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No way!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Not really, twists are my thing. I'll do a braid out from time to time. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither, I use my fingers for everything! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective-do 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Before I went natural my hair got super matted from a horrible shampoo I used. I had to use a lot of patience detangling so I wouldn't chop all my hair off! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture, moisture, moisture! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

Sonique Saturday. I was born in Culver City, CA and raised in Atlanta, GA. I now live back in Los Angeles, CA. 2. What is your hair type? Type 4
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I got my first perm at the age of 18 and my hair stayed healthy but every time I had new growth I always ended up liking that texture more than my permed hair texture so I grew my perm out to go natural. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Shrinkage 5. What is your weekly regimen? I honestly had been doing a twist out for a while and I do that maybe once every two weeks 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I wake up and rubs both of my hands all over my head like a little boy haha. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I usually like to clip the hair behind my ears to the top of my head since I sleep on the sides of my face 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I use heat when I curl wand and straighten my hair... other than that no.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No I don't 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? My hair likes to eat combs so i use brushes 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I'm a free child so it's usually loose 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Of course! I usually end those problems with soaking my hair head in water and wearing a high bun. If I can't do that I'll tie all of my hair in a scarf piled up on top of my forehead 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? leave it alone, my hair doesn't like to be pulled into a complete different style everyday. the less i bother it, the thicker and long it becomes. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Rochelle and I'm from California. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 3c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
Although I was natural most of my life there was an 8 year period when I wore a curly & straight weave. I wanted the length and I felt insecure about my damaged curls. I've been completely natural now for 7 years and it's because I finally accepted my curls as beautiful. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Transitioning! I didn't do a big chop so I wore extensions throughout my transition. However, my exposed natural hair was completely damaged from heat and color. When I did finally take out my extensions, the exposed hair had a completely different curl pattern then the rest of my hair. It took a few years of growing and trimming to get my curl pattern all the same. 5. What is your weekly regimen? 1-2 times per week I wash my curls with a sulfate free shampoo or cleansing conditioner. I then follow with a moisturizing conditioner. I try to deep condition at least once a week but sometimes I just leave my normal conditioner on longer. I apply my styling products to wet hair (I never dry it) while my head is flipped upside down. Then, I scrunch them and leave them alone until they are 100% dry. Once my curls are dry, I then proceed to fluff with my fingers and a pick for volume. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Fluff and go! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Place my curls in a pineapple and sleep on a satin pillowcase. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Usually, only if I'm in a rush. I do like the volume a diffuser brings though.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I haven't worn my hair braided since I was in high school. The only time I wear braids now is when I do a braid out overnight. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally loose, I love to let my curls be free! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? A tragedy? How about many tragedies! It's part of my hair life lessons. One that stands out was when I was relaxing and bleaching my hair at the same time. Major fail! Hair loss, breakage and heartbreak. That is when I decided to wear extensions. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Regular trims, scalp massages and deep conditioning. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Korryn Johnson and I am from the Inland Empire, California. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 3b, 3c, and 4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
One day in class I was sitting behind this girl who had beautiful curls and I started to wonder where I can buy some weave like that. After not being able to find any extensions that mimicked her hair, I started to remember that my hair used to be curly like that until I heat damaged it. A month later I made my appointment for my big chop on October 25, 2014. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was having to hear everyone's rude comments. Returning natural has taught me how to have thick skin. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Every weekend I shampoo, co-wash, deep condition, and sometimes I do a hot oil treatment. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I take down my mini pineapples and just fluff it out. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I put my hair into 5 mini pineapples. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? The only time I use heat on my hair is when I'm using my diffuser or sitting under my hooded dryer. Even then, the heat is still on low.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
The only time I braid my hair is when I get box braids and that's not very often. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Well I wouldn't exactly say it was a tragedy but it was kind of bad. I was trimming my hair and when I finished, I noticed I cut too much off the front. The back was still long, the middle was medium length, and the top was short and it looked so ugly! Then I started to work with it and it turns out that it looks perfect in an Afro! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Don't use a flat iron so often (or at all), keep a consistent regimen, and always keep your hair moisturized & trimmed! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Tawona and I’m from California. 2. What is your hair type? 3c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I've been natural for 8 years. I decided to go natural to see what my natural hair was like and what I could do with it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Wash day! It’s a long process but definitely worth it. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash, deep condition then style my hair for the week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It’s very simple, I spritz with a curl refresher and fluff then go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If I’m wearing a twist out I re-twist my hair then put on my satin cap. If I’m wearing a wash n go then I just throw on my satin cap. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No, I stopped using heat almost 3 years ago.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No, I do not braid my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. I use a wide-tooth comb when detangling and I use my Denman brush when styling to be sure my hair is smooth when doing twists and braid outs. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes!! Several years ago I let someone dye my hair and they left it on too long and my hair broke off. I recovered by doing protective styles until my hair grew back. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Keep your hair moisturized! Dry hair breaks. The L.O.C method works great. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
You can call me Elle, and I am a military brat so I've lived a little bit of everywhere but I grew up mostly in the DMV (California, USA). 2. What is your hair type? I have quite a few hair types actually. The back of my head is majority 4a, the areas in the middle are heat damaged (that's a hair type right? lol) and toward the front is 3c/4a as well.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went "natural" technically without even knowing it. I had relaxers a couple of times in high school but never maintained them and just let them grow out. I consciously made a decision to alter how I styled my hair in 2010. For me, the DC summers were HORRENDOUS for straight hair so I decided to eliminate heat and see what would happen. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was learning how to style my hair without the use of heat. When I finally did discover flat irons I was so heat dependent. That was really all I knew and was the one thing I could do very well. So learning how to use rollers, and perm rods was something very new to me. In the very beginning I looked a hot mess, lol. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash, deep condition and style my hair on a weekly basis. I used to stretch my hair for two weeks at a time but I found that washing weekly is much better for my hair . 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depending on what style I have I will usually spritz my hair lightly with water in the morning and go about my day. If I've smashed any of my curls over night I will use a small amount of product on the end to reshape my curls. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? As soon as I get home I pineapple my curls with a silk scarf! Simple and easy! 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I definitely use heat on my hair but only when I am getting my hair trimmed. Unfortunately, I trust no one to cut my hair in it's curly state. And sometimes I just get an itch to wear my hair straight and let it blow in the wind lol.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I rarely have my hair in braided styles. My hair is already so long that adding more hair on top of that is a little crazy for me. I did have marley twists in 2014 and I LOVED them! 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush alll the way! I only use a wide tooth comb for parting. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I normally wear my hair out, my go-to style are two strand twists with the ends finger coiled. I tried to do more protective styling but its just not in my cards lol. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OHHHH YESS! Tragedy that was done by me lol. I didn't flat iron or blow dry my hair for two years and in that time my hair grew from shoulder length to mid back length. That first time I straightened my hair after those two years I was addicted. I got so many compliments that I fell in love again with my straight hair and fried it like to no other. I had SEVERE heat damage that 2 years later I am still recovering from. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? The secret to it all is..................... Learn your hair! I know that sounds crazy but the only way you can do anything for your hair if if you know it. Inside and out! When I finally learned how to care for my hair it did things I never thought it could do before. I stopped relying on what other people did and just did my own thing. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Christina Alexandria aka (Naturally4Chic), Bay Area, California 2. What is your hair type? A complete 4 mixture (4A, 4B, 4C)
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I originally returned natural in 2011 in college; however, I have failed on my natural hair journey twice. In 2011, my hair was bone rod straight and stuffed in a weave. I was the queen of heat: blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons oh my. During this time, the natural movement was in full swing and suddenly women were rockin their natural hair. We were free. We were liberated. We were au naturale. It was then that I decided to make the bandwagon decision to become natural. I shed my 22-24-26 luxurious Brazilian weave to join the movement. However, I did not do much research regarding my hair and ended up putting weaves back into my hair and re-perming in 2013. That was the first time I failed. After re-perming, I decided that I would grow out my hair once more, transition, and flaunt my natural hair. I discovered wigs during this transition and my natural hair rarely saw the light of day. This is when I failed the 2nd time. I had not touched perm but I never wore my hair out. I was uncomfortable with myself and it took time for me to remove wigs altogether. In October 2014, I was coaxed into wearing my hair out and thus my 3rd natural hair journey has begun and Naturally4Chic was born. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Dealing with my own insecurities about my natural beauty. I lack confidence; not just in my hair but in how I operate as a person. That was completely eye opening. I look and exude confidence. However, I lack confidence. For years, I had very few people supporting that choice. Many thought that my hair was ugly or unattractive. My father loved my natural hair, but the rest of my family could not and would not embrace it. I too would not embrace it. I soon realized that my issues with my natural hair had a lot to do with my issues with myself in general. I did not love me and my hair was just one of many things I disliked about myself. Conquering my low self-images problems through my hair journey have brought me a new sense of confidence throughout my entire life. I walk taller. My head is held higher. I have more confidence. By embracing my hair, I embraced myself. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash weekly. I pre-poo and shampoo twice a month. I moisturize my hair daily (especially in the winter). I am a Cantu fanatic. Having 4 type-hair, I need as much moisture as I can get and their products are phenomenal. I also DIY my own deep conditioner, hair & body oil, apple cider vinegar rinse and pre-poo. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning, I spritz my aloe vera juice mix (straight aloe vera juice, 10 drops of peppermint oil, and 10 drops of lavender oil) in my hair and take a light amount of my leave-in and run it though my hair. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? That is dependent on the hair style I am wearing. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No no. When I went natural, I stopped using heat. I only own a hooded blow dryer and that I use on cool.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do. Once a year and it is typically January-February. I love box braids; they do not tear on my hair as bad as the micro braids I used to get. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Summer/Spring/Part of Fall: Loose Winter: Protective-do 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes. My many failed attempts at Wash and Go's actually damaged my hair. The gel would dry it out and my tresses became knoted. I have been trimming out all my damaged hair ever since. It is almost gone. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Focus on health and not length. If your hair is healthy, length will come. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
