1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Raquel Robertson. I am born in Dallas, TX. Raised in Denver, CO and currently living in New Orleans, LA. 2. What is your hair type? I have a few different hair types. Wavy in the front which is 3b and back is more 3c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural about 3-4 years ago. My transition started when I saw a photo of this ladies hair that was so full and curly. In my mind I thought, "yessss, I want my hair like that." I also had a friend that used a lot of natural products on her hair and she introduced me to how she washed her hair and I loved it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging about going natural was having patience while transitioning. Mainly because I wanted my curls to look a certain way. 5. What is your weekly regimen? MY weekly regimen consist of washing my hair at the beginning of the week then wear a style for the whole week. Through out the week I moisturize my hair by spritzing it with water and apply moisturizer and sealant if I need it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning I usually just style my hair for the day. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I spritz and moisturize then I wrap it up for then night using a satin scarf or bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat on my hair occasionally. Once of twice a year I straighten my hair. During this time it’s not a lot of heat just enough to straighten it.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I do braid my hair. I do braid-outs or sometimes I will do a braid style using extra hair. I don’t have any set times. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both a denman brush and a wide tooth comb. I use a wide tooth comb more often. I often detangle with it on wash day. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Since I am trying to grow my hair I like wearing protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I have had a hair tragedy. When I first went natural I was living in Colorado which has dry air. I was very familiar with what my hair needed. Then I moved to New Orleans and man! I had no idea what I was expecting. After I moved my hair was completely different because of the humidity. I struggled with months to keep my hair moisturized and nothing worked. My hair was always dry no matter what I did. After a while of living in New Orleans I found a new regimen that worked with humidity. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? I know a lot of people say this but keeping your end moisturized will help with maintaining length and that will keep your hair long. Moisturizing your hair will keep your hair healthy. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Jordan and I am from Houston, Texas, currently living in Austin, Texas. 2. What is your hair type? I have type 4a/4b hair and a lot of coily, fine strands. 4a in the nape area and 4b in the crown.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I like to call myself an accidental natural because I didn't intend on wearing my hair naturally after I stopped getting relaxers at the end of 2012. My relaxed hair was extremely thin, weak, and flat, not to mention completely unhealthy. I was getting full sew ins (no leave out) and between each installation I saw how fast my hair was growing. The two textures were not easy to manage, so after accidentally transitioning for 13 months I big chopped December 2013 and I’ve been loving it ever since. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was maintaining a decent style with the length I started with. I was excited about my hair but I couldn’t do much with it but a twist out. So I transitioned for about 6 more months after my big chop. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair about every 2-3 weeks, depending on how hectic the week is. I wash and condition with Tresemme Naturals shampoo and conditioner, then deep condition for about 20 to 30 minutes. I live by the LOC method (leave in, oil, cream) with Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In, grapeseed oil, and Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream. I usually stretch my hair with two braids before styling, and my go to style is a braid and twist (braid out at the roots, twist out halfway down). 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regimen usually consists of oiling my fingers and unraveling my twists/braids. Sometimes I will pick/fluff my roots at home, but with Texas weather I usually let the elements have their way with my hair and I put the finishing touches when I get to work. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I usually maintain my styles by retwisting my hair at night, always chunkier and looser than the day before because definition is really a priority, I like volume. Aside’s from that I protect my hair with a huge satin cap that doesn't squish my hair or leave lines on my forehead. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I’ve only gotten my hair straightened once since I’ve been natural. Probably wont get it bone straight ever again, but I do stretch my hair with the tension method every few months.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I like to braid my hair once a year, usually in the summer time when humidity in Texas is doing it’s best to make your hair swell up. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. I like to finger detangle first on wash day, but I lightly detangle with a wide-tooth comb while I’m conditioning my hair. I removed half the bristles to my denman so it’s perfect to push the finishing touch on my detangling process when it’s time to style my hair. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Mostly loose. Loose puffs are my shortcut protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? YES. A few months after I reached one year natural, I tried an updo with my novice styling skills. A good amount of strands in my crown knotted around a hair tie and after struggling with it for some time, I had to cut the tie but my hair was still knotted. Long story short, there’s an area in my area thats shorter than the rest. It’s grown out with time and now it blends well with the rest of my hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip would be to not put so much stress and pressure on your hair. Don’t feel like it has to look flawless everyday because of what you see online. Every person’s hair is different, but all our hair appreciates a break. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Tina Kelley from Houston, Texas 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is Curly with a side of Kink.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
This is my second time natural. I did my second big chop in September 2013. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural for me was understanding that most of my friends and family would not accept it. They just didn't understand why I wouldn't perm my hair. When my hair was permed it was so pretty to them, but in its natural state they didn't like it at first. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Every week I cowash, and deep condition my hair. I only shampoo it once a month or when I have product buildup. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Every morning regardless of the style I spritz my hair with a water and mixed chicks leave in conditioner mix. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I pineapple my hair if it is a wash n go, perm rod set, or any roller set. However, for twist outs or braid outs I usually just wear a bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I used heat for the first time since my big chop last week. I got a silk press to monitor my hair growth, and because I needed a haircut.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I have only has braids in my hair with extensions twice in the past 3 years. Other than that I do braid outs every couple of months. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use both! When I am in the shower conditioning my hair I use the wide tooth comb to detangle. However, when I am styling my hair I use my denman brush faithfully. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I do lots of perm rod sets in the winter time, but during the summer months I love wash n go's. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, unfortunately I had a hair tragedy. The first time I was natural I got a Keratin treatment so that I could switch from curly to flat ironed hair whenever I wanted. I didn't take into account that I have a much tighter curl pattern in the back than I do in the front. When I would wash my hair the back would revert back quickly while the front stayed straight as a board. I could no longer do twist outs because the hair in front would simply unravel. After months of unsuccessful curly styles I shaved my hair off with the clippers and started over. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip is to deep condition your hair whenever you have a few hours around the house. You have to act like your hair is dying of thirst so you need to constantly moisturize it. Moisturized hair is healthy hair and it breaks less often than dry hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Hilary Morgan. I'm from St. Louis, Missouri and I currently reside in Denton, TX. 2. What is your hair type? My hair is a mixture between 3b/c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I haven't gotten a relaxer since I was a child. In December 2014, I decided to stop using heat on my hair and I transitioned for about 8 months when I did my Big Chop in August. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? My biggest challenge when going natural was getting in the routine of a daily hair regime. After my big chop, getting used to maintaining short hair was difficult. I've always had long hair so it was definitely a struggle when braiding and twisting shorter hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I co-wash my hair about once a week and I typically wear a protective style over the weekends. I'm sure to detangle at least once a week and I moisturize with water and leave-in conditioner, moisturize with curling creme and seal with a mixture of coconut and black castor oil. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regime typically consists oiling my hands and unraveling my twists or curls into smaller sections, then using a pick to separate my roots and then style my baby hair ;) 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I'm so lazy when it comes to a night regime. I try to twist my curls but some days my hair doesn't cooperate and I end up just throwing my purple bonnet on my hair and dealing with it in the morning. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I blow dry my hair about once every 2-3 months.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Not often, I'm more of a twist out kinda girl... 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My Big Chop was sort of my hair tragedy. I cut my own hair so it was insanely uneven. After cutting it, I realized what a mistake I made and was extremely self conscious about my hair. I overcame this by working hard on styling and re-cutting my hair everyday until I had a cut I was comfortable with. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Loving your own curl pattern. Your hair is never going to look exactly like mine, just like mine will never look like anyone else's curl pattern. I love MY hair and I do what's best for MY hair. Something else might work better for you and vice versa. It's a beautiful love story. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Mimi Irvin “aka” Corporate Chic. I am a wife, mother of two handsome boys, daughter, friend, and have been told a fashionista. My day job consists of a career as a Project Engineer working in Corporate America with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I was born in Yokosuka Japan, from a military background and traveled every three years of my life. So for me home is where I make it and currently that is in Houston Texas. 2. What is your hair type? I believe I am in between a 3B and 3C
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I contemplated the idea of going natural in early 2011 and although I loved the relaxed looked and didn’t suffer from breakage, but I wanted something different. I was set forth to go on assignment in the Netherlands with my company in January 2012, so I decided December 2011 would be my last relaxer. I wouldn’t have to worry about the Texas humidity and I felt the transition would be easier to deal with in cooler temperatures. As I tried many styles as I could during my transition, 8 months would be the end of that road. I decided to do my BC August 2012. As I sat in the mirror cutting each section it was very hard to get through. I had about 3 inches of new growth but after completing that hard effort, I looked in the mirror and said yes this is ME and I will ROCK it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The challenging part about going natural is that its trial and era with hair products. With relaxed hair, you have setting lotion, oil sheen and your wrap cap for the most part. With Natural hair and depending on your curl pattern, not every product will work for you. So it takes patience and interacting with other naturals to help find your staple. 5. What is your weekly regimen? If my hair is not twisted, I typically I will pin it up at night and sleep in satin bonnet. In the mornings I will spritz with water, add Coconut oil or shea butter and style in an up-do or wear loose. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the mornings I will spritz with water, add Coconut oil or shea butter and style in an up-do or wear loose. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If my hair is not twisted, I typically I will pin it up at night and sleep in satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use minimal heat on my hair. I have only had my hair flat ironed twice since I’ve been natural. From time to time I will do a roller set and sit under the dryer. Other than that I use heatless styles such as twists, bantu knots, twist outs and wash and go’s.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I twist my hair and typically wear for a week or so. I’ve never work braids that calls for extensions. I like to change my hair to much, so that is one reason I haven’t gotten braids in my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Yes to the Wide-Tooth Comb. I love it and it work best for my hair. I finger detangle my hair when its wet and then I use the Wide-Tooth Comb. I use the Denman brush from time to time, but to get through my hair I need a comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I typically wear my hair loose either in a wash-n-go or twist out. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I honestly have not had a hair tragedy since I’ve been natural. The two times I had my hair flat ironed, it loosened my curls a little, but that was it. That is why I use minimal heat and dyes on my hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest TIP for maintaining healthy hair is keeping your hair moisturized and your ends trimmed. I know that is easier said than done. The key if finding the RIGHT product that moisturizes your hair texture. For those women that are thinking about going natural, I say embraces it. It’s a journey, and with every journey newness is born. It’s a lifestyle change. It takes confidence, and as women we must have self-confidence no matter the circumstance. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Marilyn Newbold aka Ashley Lynn. I am from the beautiful islands of The Bahamas, but currently in Texas pursuing my cosmetology degree. 2. What is your hair type? I consider my hair to be 3C- 4A. 3C when wet & 4A when dry(Curly Kinky)
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I returned to maintaining natural hair in November 2012. I was the one that made the decision to grow my natural hair. I actually did it in such a dramatic way (lol) I literally ran in the front room where my boyfriend & cousins were & said "I am declaring this day I am no longer getting relaxers, I am going natural" I made a FB post as well (lol). It was a celebration. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was when I did the big chop, I loved it for a second (literally) then I hated it. I've never seen my hair that short EVER. So it was a huge shock. I transitioned for 10 months before I BC'd. I realized that I had to train my hair & that's when the challenge got a little better. Hair training is important with this journey. I will shortly have a YouTube video on my channel talking about "How to train your natural hair". 5. What is your weekly regimen? Cleanse day is once a week, that includes: prepoo, shampoo, condition, deep condition & styling. I only style my hair once a week. Re-moisturize twice a week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It depends on the style I am rocking. If it's a wash n go I just fluff, lay my edges down & go. On the third day of my wash n go I mist it with a little bit of water & apply a leave-in conditioner to the party. Twist out & braid outs; I use my pick, lay my edges & go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I consider myself to be a "lazy natural". I don't do much to my hair at night. I pineapple my hair & throw on my satin bonnet. Every girl's gotta have a bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes I do, when I want a really fluffy braid out I blow dry my hair first. But not to often. I refuse to get heat damage
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I do, once a year I braid my hair up. I am a huge fan of mini twists though. I do that quite often. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. I have to have it all. But I love finger detangling. My hair loves finger detangling. But on those lazy cleansing days I pull out my wide tooth comb real quick. I use the Denman brush when I want that perfect clumped curls for my summer wash n go routine. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It's normally loose. Big, wild & free. I love it that way! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, trying to color my own hair at home! Tragedy!! My roots were the only part of my hair that took the color. They call that "hot head". Was a tragedy but I turned it into something beautiful that everyone wanted to know what color was in my hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip is building your regimen & sticking to it! Listen to your hair, if your hair is dry beyond measure give it that TLC it needs & Train your natural curls. Remember when you big chopped, your curls didn't know how to react. It felt "free" but had no direction. It's up to you to get your hair on the right path. 14. Where can we find you online? 3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in the Summer of 2010. A classmate of mine inspired me to transition and then big chop! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Learning my hair and finding products! You will go through a lot of trial and error with natural hair products. It's kind of like a natural hair initiation. Every natural has to go through it! 5. Oh my goodness, where do I start. My first year natural, I colored my hair blonde. I colored my hair at home and the first disaster was that it came out ORANGE! I had to go and get the color corrected. Next disaster was when I tried to straighten my hair and the stylist had no idea how to work with my hair so that's when the scissors came out, causing me to lose all of my growth. Lesson learned. I definitely do my own hair now. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture, moisture, moisture! You must moisturize and seal your hair! Do the LEAST, not the most. Keep your regimen simple. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is DaJonitta Williams but my friends call me DJ. I’m from Spring, Texas (a suburb of Houston, Tx). 2. What is your hair type? I’ve never been big on typing because it seems like I have so many different textures. I believe I am 3c and 4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in November of 2007. It was my first year of college at Xavier University of Lousiana and I saw so many women with natural hair. I fell in love. It wasn’t as popular as it is now, of course, but I wanted to try it. I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to work towards a “new me”. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Finding what works for my hair. I watched YouTube, spent money on things that didn’t work for me just because others promoted it. It took me a while to find what my hair likes. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I’m big on protective styling so I usually will co wash my hair with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration, deep condition with Generics Biolage conditioner then put a few big twists using Qhemet Biologics amla heavy cream. I will leave the twists in for a day or two so my hair fully air-dries. Then I will wear in a bun, down or put back in twists throughout week. I cowash every other week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually will spray water to spruce up my curls then maybe run a bit of leave-in through my strands if I feel it looks dry. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Pineapple and satin cap. Even if I am rocking my twists, I will pineapple so they are stretched. If I feel like my hair is dry, I will spray some water and seal with castor oil lightly. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Very seldom. I may blow dry if I need my hair to dry overnight, otherwise I haven’t straightened my hair in over 2 years. I sit under a hooded dryer with my deep conditioner and a plastic cap twice monthly for about 30 minutes each time.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No braids, only twists without added hair. I will usually do this once or twice a month, so aboud 20 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither. I don’t use combs or brushes. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Probably protected 60% of the time and loose the other 40%. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes! I had my hair straightened for my college graduation and after washing it that weekend, I noticed a huge patch of short hair near my crown. I was so sad. I kept my hair moisturized and stayed away from heat and it slowly grew back. This is why I’m hesitant about letting people loose on my hair! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Deep Condition every time you wash and try to use a hooded dryer or diffuser. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Terell. I was born and raised in Killeen, Texas. 2. What is your hair type? I classify my hair type as a picture of 4A and 4B.
3. When did you start taking a keen interest in your hair?
I started a real interest in my hair about 3 years ago, when the curiosity of what my hair would actually look like grown out sparked my journey. 4. Are there any challenges in being a man that's fanatical about hair? The challenges about being a man are a handful. I would say that with being a man and having natural hair, it's hard to get that "courage" to reach out and try natural hair products that seem to steer towards women more. A lot of times, being a man with natural grown out hair leads to stereotyping, and often, quite amusingly, being put in a category of being called, "ma'am." The last thing would be the fact that people think that men don't nearly have to put in as much work with their hair as women do, and it sucks that a lot of them still don't believe that the work of your natural hair is even regardless of gender. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen includes washing once a week, deep conditioning once a week, and doing a wash and go on that wash day. I'll only co-wash in the middle of the week if I want to change my hair style from a wash'n go to a high puff or something along those styles. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My morning regimen includes refreshing my curls with a spray bottle just to kind of reactivate them, and then diffusing on cold air if needed or in a rush. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night time regimen just includes sleeping with a satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use a little indirect heat if I need to diffuse and i'm in a rush with blow drying my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair?
No, I do not, but it would be interesting to try! 10. What is your favourite hair tool? My favorite hair tool has to be bobby-pins. 11. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I first started growing out my hair, I was growing it out for a year, and it was coming to my graduation from high school. I was told that I was going to go get a trim to my ends on the day of my graduation, when in reality my mom just told the lady at the salon to cut it all off. I was devastated, especially since it was the first time I had grown out my hair in my entire life. I really don't know how I recovered from it. I guess I just saw it as a brand new start.
