1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Melissa and I am from New York City. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is definitely a crazy mix of everything but if I had to pick I'd say it is a mix of 3c, 4a, and 4b.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My last relaxer was in March of 2012 and I transitioned for 11 months before big chopping myself (what a disaster) in February 2013. I decided to go natural because my hair was sick and tired of being fried and dyed. It was literally falling out in clumps and I had severe breakage. I didn't have much of a choice but to actually stop and think about what I was doing to my hair so I decided to lay off the chemicals and never looked back. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was definitely my friends and family's reaction to the different appearance. They were used to long straight hair and now I was rocking short curly hair so it was a bit of a shocking adjustment for them and a huge blow to the ego for me. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen consists of one major wash day with all the fixings so to speak including a pre-poo and deep condition. Besides my weekly wash day I try to style no more than 2-3 times a week depending on my schedule, my choice of style, and how the weather is acting up that week. For the most part I moisturize, massage and condition my scalp during my styling opportunities as well. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Haha... I'm usually running out of the house early in the morning late for work or a meeting so my morning routine is pretty simple and basic for the sake of my schedule. I just untie my head scarf and use my fingers/pick to fluff out my hair depending on the type of look I'm going for. If I'm in a big rush I stick to the basics of a puff, bun, or a faux hawk as my go to quick easy styles. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Night time regimen is pretty simple throw on a silk bonnet or head scarf and thats a wrap. If I'm feeling really fancy I'll throw my hair into a pineapple but thats rare. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I haven't used heat on my hair since August 2012 for fear of heat damage but I am not opposed to the idea of using it in the future since I know much more about proper hair care and heat protection.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I did recently box braid my own hair a month ago and it was very, very, very time consuming but I loved the outcome. My first experience with box braids was last spring and since then I have had it done three times once by myself and two other times by the professionals. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I prefer the wide-tooth comb less opportunity for pulling/damage and breakage. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I think 50/50 is safe to say. I try to protective style four times a year for 6-8 weeks with 2 week breaks in between and let me hair out for the rest of the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My hair tragedy was before going natural and that was due to my poor treatment and lack of knowledge. I was relaxing and dying my hair frequently while in college and at one point my hair just had enough. It seemed like it was barely growing and the hair that was growing out seemed just as damaged as the older hair which was scary to see. Eventually my hair just started breaking off drastically and there was nothing I could do to stop it except start over from scratch chemical and heat free. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My best tip for maintaining healthy long hair is to listen to the needs of your hair. Yes it's great to go on youtube and blogs to see all the reviews, tips, and tricks it can be helpful and inspiring. But at the end of the day you need to do what's best for your hair in order to maintain and retain length and moisture. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Stacie Daye aka MamaDaye I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. 2. What is your hair type? I’m a mixture of hair types, I have 3B, 3C and 4A in my head of Curls.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
That’s a loaded question but I went natural May 2010 on Mother's Day. I was diagnosed with a Rare Spinal Syndrome CES and going natural and putting my focus on Learning about natural hair helped to remove myself from depression and it gave me purpose in my life. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing for me was learning this new person. All my independent life all I knew was how to take care of my relaxed hair. My new hair couldn’t function with my old methods SO I had to learn what she liked and how often she needed that DC. It took some getting used to but I would not change it for the world. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I’m rocking the WNG’s (Wash N Go’s) right now so I wash my hair, Dc, use Aloe Vera and style my WNG for a 3 day stretch and I start the WNG process all over again. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually don’t do a lot in the morning. I will put a little oil on my hair if it needs it but for the most part, I shake and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? This is usually when I do my hair so I refresh my curls or twist depending on whether or not I’m rocking a protective style. Every other day I spray oil on before bed. If my hair feels extra dry I do the green house effect: I put 2 plastic shower caps on and then 2 head rags to help bring moisture back to my hair and scalp. I love the Greenhouse effect with my WNG. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Rarely but yes. I would say about 2-3 times out the year I blow dry my hair and 1-2 a year I flat iron it. When I do I make sure to do a Protein treatment and use Heat protectants to ensure I have not caused Heat Damage to my curls.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I don’t braid my hair but I do braid-outs and twist-outs. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Oh how I love me My Denman Brush and my Tangle Teezers. They get my unruly hair under control and I love it. I rarely use the wide tooth comb. If I use a wide tooth comb, it’s probably because one of my daughters took my brushes lol. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Right now I do a little of both. One week I rock a protective style the next week I unravel and rock it loose and free. I love the versatility of natural hair. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OMG Yes I had my hair dyed and it just killed my hair. When I was 1½ years into my journey I had it dyed copper. It dried my hair out and so I would over moisturize my hair to the point that I moisture overloaded my hair leaving it with limp, undefined curls. To try and fix my drama I over proteinated my hair and got protein overload. Can you see a pattern here? I couldn't get the right balance between protein and moisture and it took about 6 months to balance my hair back to its proper state. I chopped about 3-4 inches of my damaged hair and learned to balance moisture and protein to obtain healthy hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Listen to your hair… yes, it can talk. Take the time to really learn your hair know it inside and out. Educate yourself about how to maintain moisture and strength to your hair. Drink plenty of water to keep your hair and body hydrated. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Georgina and I was born and raised in the UK. 2. What is your hair type? I’d say I was a mixture of hair types but mainly 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My original decision was not really focused around going natural. To be honest I didn’t really know what that concept meant. For me, it was more around the decision to stop chemically processing my hair, which I made in May 2009. I’d had some serious hair thinning issues and I was just tired of the ‘burn’ I think this then naturally led to a period of transitioning (7 months) before I ‘Big Chopped’ in December 2009. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I didn’t really have much of a support network at the time; everyone around me was either relaxed or wore weaves and braided extensions, so this was quite a challenge. I had no Idea what I was doing, luckily I fell into the world of YouTube and quickly found ladies who had made the transition to natural and it was great learning different styles and products which I could potentially use. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash once weekly, usually on a Saturday or Sunday night. I usually use a sulfate-free shampoo followed by a conditioner which I leave on for about 30 minutes before I rinse out. I usually follow this up with my moisturizing products. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning, I usually take down my braids or twists (usually 4) add a moisturizer if needed and then style my hair in a quick easy style (normally a pompadour with a high puff at the back) 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night, I section my hair into four and I spritz each section with a mixture of water, conditioner and an oil. I then add a hair lotion. I braid each section and then tie my hair down with a scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Rarely, sometimes if I am doing a deep condition I may sit under a hooded dryer for 30 minutes. I usually allow my hair to air dry in plaits rather than blow it out with a blowdryer.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Maybe once a year to give myself a break from my hair. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb every time – A wooden one preferably. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose most of the time, however I do wear a lot of tuck-in styles and high buns. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My twist-outs and braid-outs tend to be very hit and miss; sometimes I spend a good 30 minutes setting my hair in the night only for it to be a hot mess in the morning. On those days I usually go for my trusted pompadour puff style. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Learn how to maintain moisture in your hair. This can take a long time to master but is key in preventing breakage. Low manipulation hair styles that can last you from wash to wash can help prevent breakage also. 14.
