1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hi, my name is Chalise and I'm from New Jersey. 2. What is your hair type? The front of my hairline is 4B but everywhere else is 4C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2003 because of the environment, money and time. During my freshman year in college, I noticed a lot of young women proudly rocking afros, twists, coils and locs. Fascinated by the versatility of natural hair, I researched maintenance tips and photos to encourage me to go natural too. It wasn't until a very bad experience at a hair salon that I took the plunge and transitioned immediately. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Transitioning was pretty easy because of websites like Fotki and nappturality.com. Once I became completely fro-tastic, I was amazed at the behavior of my hair, like “Why can’t you retain moisture?” & “Ugh! Tangles again?” 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen includes a shea butter mix every weekend, a spray of conditioner mix every 3-4 days and leaving my hair alone because she’s very temperamental. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I don’t really have a morning regimen. I discovered my head’s a night time gal. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? When it’s time to moisturize my hair, I unravel my ponytail to get to the ends then lightly spritz it with a homemade conditioner concoction. The hair is then braided or twisted back up for the next few days. At least once a week, I like to add in a scalp massage. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Very rarely (perhaps once a year) but if I do it’s mostly in the front
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Too many to count, lol. I haven’t done single braids in a while but I braid my hair almost every week or other week. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth all the way but I also love the Tangle Teezer. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective-do, all the time 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? lol I’ve had quite a few bad experiences. One included a “Silkener”, a term explained more properly now than it was back then. Another hair tragedy was at a salon. The stylist lingered on my poor strands for far too long with a hot comb and caused major heat damage. Sadly for both tragedies, I cut a good portion of my hair and did my natural journey all over again. I also took extra care of my strands with weekly conditioner washes and peppermint scalp massages. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? I’m currently APL (arm pit length) but when I had bra strap length I achieved it through adequate moisture, stretching my hair and not touching my strands for days on end. If you have moody hair like mine, this will work for you. :) 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Fatima Farmer and I'm from Paterson, New Jersey. 2. What is your hair type? Somewhere between 3c and 4a
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I've actually never had a relaxer, but I used to wear my hair flat ironed for about 6 years. In 2007, I was inspired by Tracee Ellis Ross and Teyana Taylor so I started experimenting with my natural texture. I had severe heat damage and I had to "transition/big chop" in order to get my natural texture back. By 2010, I was 100% heat damage free. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? When I started wearing my hair in it's natural state it wasn't as "acceptable" as it is now. I was in high school so I was teased a lot. All of my peers had weaves and relaxers, but I had a huge fro. I didn't have anyone to connect to in real life. So I used myspace and websites to see people with hair like mine. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Hmmmm, depends on my mood or the event to be honest. For the most part I make sure I do a deep conditioning treatment, I cowash/detangle and mainly rock wash & go's for about 5-7 days. I only restyle during the week if I have a special event to attend. Otherwise, it's pulled back or in a puff. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Take down pineapple, shake/ fluff and apply some gel on my egdes. That's really it...I like to keep it simple. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Very simple! I put it in a pineapple and tie on a scarf. That's if I'm not being lazy, some days I just go to bed and hope for the best lol 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, whenever I get the itch to wear a blow out or straight hair I go for it. It's not very often though maybe 3-4 times per year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I've had braids twice over the past 4 years. They aren't really my thing, but like I said above if I get the urge...I go for it! 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb all day! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose, in a huge fro. The bigger the better! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, heat damage and color damage. Both times I just cut it off and grew it back. It's just hair, so it's never really a tragedy in my opinion just a "learning experience". 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Deep Conditioning every single week. It really helps when it's done consistently. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Ariane and I am from New Jersey, US. 2. What is your hair type? I have 4B/4C Hair.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2007. I was tired of having damaged broken hair and decided to try something new. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? It was an entirely new territory for me and I had no idea how to style short natural hair. Luckily, I found support through hair forums and just taking the time to learn and experiment with my hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash my hair, deep condition, moisturize using the LOC method, and go with a low manipulation style like a ponytail or twist out. In the winter weather sometimes I wash only every 2-3 weeks. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depending on what I think my hair needs at the time I either lightly spritz with water or moisturize with my favorite product, primp and go! I keep my hair routine really simple as I am super busy. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I moisturize, put my hair in large two strand twists (for curl definition and to prevent matting), and wrap my hair with my silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes. When I deep condition my hair I sit under a hooded dryer. I use a blow dryer to stretch my hair monthly.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I used to braid/twist my own hair more often but as my hair grew in truth I don't have the patience. I do get box braid extensions 1-2x a year, which are done at the salon. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use a wide-tooth comb and I like to finger comb when I can. I very rarely use any type of brush, unless I am wearing an updo and I lightly want to touch up my nape area. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I rotate between protective and low manipulation styles, for the most part I would say my hair is worn loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My biggest hair tragedy was when the middle section of my hair broke off. In the beginning I didn't know how to protect my hair at night. I use to sleep without wearing twists or pineappling my hair and this made the middle part of my hair extremely matted. As a result I had to cut my hair and start fresh. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Eliminate manipulation of your hair as much as you can. Especially if you have a kinky hair texture, this hair type does not like to be combed, brushed, or styled frequently. The less you find yourself manipulating your hair the more you will reduce your rate of breakage. 14. Where can we find you online?
