1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Aishia Strickland and I'm from Chicago...South-Side STAND UP! 2. What is your hair type? Honestly...I don't believe in hair typing...it's hella confusing and it doesn't really tell you anything about your hair's porosity or how to choose your products. When asked about my hair type I normally tell people my hair type is Cute
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to go natural in June of 2011. I felt at that point that I had done EVERYTHING, I'd been short, long, bob'd and colored, I figured let me see what this natural thing is all about. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The hardest thing about going natural was trying to figure out a hair care regimen. In addition to finding out over 4 years later that everything you've been doing to care for your hair has been absolutely wrong. While YouTube and the numerous blogs centered on natural were a great resource I always felt like there was WAY too much misinformation being passed around that I just did what I felt like worked and kept it moving. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Currently since the weather is uber nice here in Chicago I've been all about the wash and go. After doing the 30dayhairdetox I've been able to get my wash and go from shampoo to style down to 30mins. I'm still tweaking my regime a bit to find what works for me....with that being said clarifying shampoo has been a game changer in my routine and is an absolute must for me weekly however with the WNG I need to refresh on day 3 or 4 and co-washing just doesn't quite work for my very dense hair. So, I'm playing with using a cream cleanser for the refresher days and we shall see how that works out. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Before showering I usually take down my pineapple and put my hair in two ponytails to bring my hair back down to gravity. After I've showered and applied my makeup I usually take the ponytails out and tousle it a bit and I'm out the door. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I just take an elastic headband and pineapple my hair for the bed while resting my head on my satin pillowcase. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Up until recently I would get my straightened for my bi-yearly trims. Since getting my hair shaped by an experienced curl artist I now straighten whenever the mood strikes me.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Outside of flat twist or french braids I'm not much of a braid wearer. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I am a HUGE fan of the Felicia Leatherwood Detangling Brush. It is the most amazing tool I own and I just can't stop talking about how DOPE it is to everyone I know. If detangling your hair or your child's is a pain in the ass...you need to get you one. It will change your life, your child's life and your future grandchildren's lives...I PROMISE! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I'm not a big fan of protective styles I like my hair roaming my scalp freely. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, I've only suffered one self-inflicted hair tragedy...in 1998 I had been asking my stylist to give me this really popular hair cut, the official black girl mullet (long in the back and short at the top) my stylist kept telling me no for months and then she finally gave in. Well I got the hair cut, hated it and was right back at the salon 2 weeks later getting my hair cut into a the most fabulous bob...moral of the story; listen to your stylist! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Being the Co-Creator of the 30dayhairdetox my biggest tip for maintaining healthy hair is to wash your damn hair...with shampoo. In addition to locking down a sound regime consisting of quality products with botanically based ingredients. Ditch all the heavy oils and butters and really learn how to Cleanse, Condition and Style your hair! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
