1. What's your name and where are you from?
My names Alejandra. I was born and raised in Bronx. New York. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 3B.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I’ve been natural ever since I was a kid, but ended up suffering heat damage from straightening too often. I eventually decided to stop applying heat so often back in 2012 and have kept up with my regimen since then. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I would have to say the maintenance was the biggest challenge for me when I made my decision. From making sure to deep condition once a week or use a protein treatment at least once a month. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but once I got the hang of things I was good to go. 5. What is your weekly regimen? As far as my weekly regimen I’ll co-wash one week and shampoo wash the next. I make sure to deep condition once every week as well after all the manipulating my hair has gone through. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I’ll usually just take my style down, apply my favorite oil to the ends of my hair and I’m out the door. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Twist and refresh! Lol if I feel my style can use a bit of loving I’ll just re-braid it or re-twist for the night. If not then I’ll just pull it up into a pineapple and protect the style with my satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use it very sparingly. I went from straightening my hair once every 2 weeks to now straightening once a year or every 8 months depending on how I feel or if I’m getting that "straight hair" itch.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid it every night lol. As far as a protective style no, but I’d love to get some done soon to give my hair a break for a while. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? That’s a good one lol. I’ve been a fan of my widetooth comb for YEARS but the denman brush has stolen my heart and makes it super easy to detangle my hair so much faster. Denman brush it is. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally it’s loose 24/7. I just love having my fro out it feels natural to me and just suits my lifestyle a lot better. I’ll do a protective do maybe once a week if necessary but other than that you’ll usually catch me with my fro out. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I think the only hair tragedy I had once in my life was excessive shedding at one point. It was really scary to see so much hair coming out all at once. I ended up recovering from it by using protein treatments as well as not manipulating my hair too often, once I did that my hair grew right back out. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Consistency. I think it’s the biggest thing for maintaining healthy or long hair. Length will come in due time; as long as you’re consistent, give your hair the love it needs and make sure you're using the right products that you’ve found work for you everything else just falls into play. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
