1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Charity and I was born in paradise, also known as the Caribbean island of Antigua. 2. What is your hair type? When it comes to hair typing my hair is somewhere between 4b and 4c (closer to 4c). My hair is also low porosity so maintaing moisture is a big challenge.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in August of 2013. Honestly I’d never really thought about going natural until I’d already big chopped! It’s a really long story but here’s the very condensed version I dyed my hair at home, it fell out, I big chopped and then fell in love with my natural texture. Lol! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was and still is learning what my natural hair likes and what it despises. That includes products, techniques, hair styles and styling tools! It’s definitely a journey! 5. What is your weekly regimen? Unless I’m wearing protective style with added hair I prepoo using a mixture of oils, cowash using Tresemme Naturals and deep condition (with heat) weekly. If I’m wearing a protective style I clean and oil my scalp weekly. If my hair is in need of a good cleanse I use a DIY African Black soap cleanser. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Mornings are easy because my hair is in a low manipulation or protective style 90% of the time. I spritz my hair with water and seal with oil (olive or castor). I make sure to moisturise and seal my hair line and edges using the L.O.C method. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I follow the same procedure that I do in the morning and cover my hair with a satin cap. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Since going natural I have not used heat on my hair. Mmmm I may have blow dried my hair with warm air one time!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes! I love braids. I prefer to use yarn to do the extensions and braid my hair around 4 or 5 times a year. I make sure that I take really good care of my natural hair while it’s in a protective style. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither! I like using my fingers but if I must use a tool I reach for my paddle brush. I find that it doesn’t rip or pull at my hair as much as other tools. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is in a low manipulation or protective style about 90% of the time! It saves me lots of time and energy. My hair thrives when I do protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? The only hair tragedy I’ve ever had was that at home colour job that went very wrong. I simply bit the bullet and shaved my head. Best hair decision I’ve ever made! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? The biggest tip for maintaining my hair and for keeping it healthy is MOISTURE, MOISTURE, and MOISTURE!!! Keeping my hair moisturised is my biggest challenge but if I do it properly and consistently my hair flourishes! 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
