1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Maegan Ella and I am from Los Angeles, CA. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a 3C- Curly Coily! Fine Strands all packed together!
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went completely natural in June 2014 and big chopped. I’ve never had a relaxer, but had been pressing/Flat ironing my hair since I was 12! I went natural because I was so tired of being “perfect” all the time. Making sure that my hair had that deep press, frying it once a week and always having to have 100% Indian hair extensions that always cost a pretty penny. Trying to “fit in” and please people that had nothing to do with my inner happiness. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was understanding that your hair will go through so many different stages whether you big chop or transitioned. You have to remember, the hair you have now is the true essence of you, not a quick fix perm or flat iron…you have to devote extra time and dedication to see good results. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Oh my! It changes every few weeks now! Lol! My current weekly regimen consists of me conditioning my hair at least two times a week while adding a small amount water to it everyday. I also add Shea Moistures Raw Shea Butter Extra Moisture Transitioning hair milk for added moisture. I try not to apply too much product all at once because I add some form of product everyday and don’t want it to weigh it down. Separate my hair into many small sections and add Eco Styler Gel. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? WATER! I found that my hair NEEDS a lot of water! I like to wet it in the morning while in the shower and apply a small amount of eco Styler gel to eliminate extra frizz. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My nighttime regimen is very simple. I separate my hair with two loose hair ties and throw on a satin bonnet over it. Temperatures change throughout the night that can also affect your hair, so keeping the bonnet on will never compromise the moisture of your hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Unfortunately, I do...but I am changing that now. I am a corporate spokesperson for a major automotive company (…when I’m not talking to my MegaDolls on my youtube channel, Maeganswayinla)… and sometimes will slightly flat iron the hair near my edges to make the wig appear as real as possible. Currently looking into a wig with bangs to completely take all heat out of my regimen.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I don’t braid my hair at all. I definitely want to try it in the near future. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? If I have to choose, it would be the Denman brush… but I mainly use my fingers to detangle. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Funny you ask, this is a really fun time for me. I am literally getting out of wearing my hair loose so much to playing with protective styles. So much fun! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I’ve never really had a hair tragedy. I’m thinking about coloring my hair soon…let us all hope for the best! Lol. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Do your research. Find out the porosity of your hair & hair type. Once you have an idea of what you’re working with, Invest only in products that you know will work for your specific hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
