1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Marilyn Newbold aka Ashley Lynn. I am from the beautiful islands of The Bahamas, but currently in Texas pursuing my cosmetology degree. 2. What is your hair type? I consider my hair to be 3C- 4A. 3C when wet & 4A when dry(Curly Kinky)
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I returned to maintaining natural hair in November 2012. I was the one that made the decision to grow my natural hair. I actually did it in such a dramatic way (lol) I literally ran in the front room where my boyfriend & cousins were & said "I am declaring this day I am no longer getting relaxers, I am going natural" I made a FB post as well (lol). It was a celebration. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was when I did the big chop, I loved it for a second (literally) then I hated it. I've never seen my hair that short EVER. So it was a huge shock. I transitioned for 10 months before I BC'd. I realized that I had to train my hair & that's when the challenge got a little better. Hair training is important with this journey. I will shortly have a YouTube video on my channel talking about "How to train your natural hair". 5. What is your weekly regimen? Cleanse day is once a week, that includes: prepoo, shampoo, condition, deep condition & styling. I only style my hair once a week. Re-moisturize twice a week. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? It depends on the style I am rocking. If it's a wash n go I just fluff, lay my edges down & go. On the third day of my wash n go I mist it with a little bit of water & apply a leave-in conditioner to the party. Twist out & braid outs; I use my pick, lay my edges & go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I consider myself to be a "lazy natural". I don't do much to my hair at night. I pineapple my hair & throw on my satin bonnet. Every girl's gotta have a bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes I do, when I want a really fluffy braid out I blow dry my hair first. But not to often. I refuse to get heat damage
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I do, once a year I braid my hair up. I am a huge fan of mini twists though. I do that quite often. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. I have to have it all. But I love finger detangling. My hair loves finger detangling. But on those lazy cleansing days I pull out my wide tooth comb real quick. I use the Denman brush when I want that perfect clumped curls for my summer wash n go routine. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It's normally loose. Big, wild & free. I love it that way! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes, trying to color my own hair at home! Tragedy!! My roots were the only part of my hair that took the color. They call that "hot head". Was a tragedy but I turned it into something beautiful that everyone wanted to know what color was in my hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip is building your regimen & sticking to it! Listen to your hair, if your hair is dry beyond measure give it that TLC it needs & Train your natural curls. Remember when you big chopped, your curls didn't know how to react. It felt "free" but had no direction. It's up to you to get your hair on the right path. 14. Where can we find you online?
