1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Nia AKA NiaKnowsHair and Im from London, UK 2. What is your hair type? I have 3c curls at the top but at the bottom its more of a 4a.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in Jan 2014. I kind of did it by accident. I used to always wear U-part wigs and my hair was getting too long underneath and was making my wig really bulky. One day I simply decided to chop off all my dead hair leaving about only 2 inches of natural growth. As my healthy curls formed, I began to fall in love with them. Seeing other ladies on social media sites going through their own natural hair journey then made me decide that I was fully going to focus on mine. In July 2014 I fully ditched my U-part wig and have never looked back since 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? For me it has to be the adjustment in length. I have wore super long weave and to go from that to short hair was very challenging. I felt ugly and it took me a long time to gain my confidence and walk with my head held high. Many days I still wish I had long flowing locks, but I know my time will come eventually. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I like to wash my hair twice a week as I work out regularly. Sundays and Wednesdays I try to stick to. On a Wednesday I also like to deep condition. On a Sunday if Im not feeling too lazy, I will give my hair a hot oil treatment such as olive oil and castor oil mixed with a little honey. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regime is really simple. I have a spray bottle at the ready, mixed with water, Tresemme Naturals conditioner and Almond Oil. As soon as I wake up, I spritz my hair thoroughly (but not drenched through) and then simply let it dry naturally whilst im getting ready. Once dry, I use my afro pick to create extra volume and that's it. Really simple. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Night time regime consists of spritzing the ends of my hair with my spray bottle and then running a little coconut oil through my hair focusing on the ends. I then wrap my hair with a satin scarf in a low pineapple. I don't like to do high pineapples like most people as I find it takes too much effort in the mornings to get my hair to hang down properly. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Oh yes, Im not afraid of heat. When I wash my hair twice a week I mainly use a dryer to dry my hair as I don't have the patience to let it dry nsturally. I also use heat if I wish to stretch my curls on some days.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I recently had box braids for 7 weeks and it did wonders for my hair health and growth. I plan to do them again in a couple of months to give my hair a break. Twice a year is fine for me. No more than that because I would miss my curls too much. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Denman brush all day, everyday. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I love to let my curls loose wild and free just how God created them. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I tried to bleach my hair myself... BIG MISTAKE! It turned out bright orange. Luckily though my curl pattern wasnt compromised. Never again though. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Water. Drink 2 litres or more of water a day. And don't forget to spray your hair with water daily as well. Just like a plant, if you want your hair to grow, you must water it. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
