1. What's your name and where are you from?

I am Patricia Striggles from The Boogie Down Bronx,NY.

2. What is your hair type?

My hair is mostly 4b but some sections are 4a.

3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?

I transitioned for one year then big chopped on May 16, 2013. I was at work and just had that feeling of "girl just cut it." So stopped at the local target, brought some Shea Moisture products, hair sheers and a box of blonde dye (big mistake I later learned).

4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The hardest part of going natural for me was styling. I am great at doing my own hair but the process took a lot longer now. Dealing with the two textures was hard. Also finding the right products was a trail and error experience. I was receiving subscription boxes and became overloaded with products that I really did not need. I Patricia was a product junkie.

All my life I was used to having long hair (mid back length) and there I was with hair that barely passed my ears. It took a toll on my self esteem for a while. I would do my make up everyday to compensate missing a major part of my beauty. I constantly found myself having to deal with negative comment from people who could not understand why I cut my hair and a lot of "advice" on how to grow my hair long. It was annoying. Finally I fell in love my my new found hair and embraced my fro.

5. What is your weekly regimen?

Regimen? Ha. I am still trying to find the right one. Currently due to my busy schedule I try to do my hair once a week. I do a twist out and wear the twist in the beginning part of the week (sometimes I wear a head wrap to be fancy). At the end of the week I take out the twist and wear it out for as long as I can.

6. What is your daily morning regimen?

Every morning I take down my modified pineapple. It's just two pineapples. One in the front and one in the back. Then I fluff out my hair. I add no products because I do not want product build up.

7. What is your daily night time regimen?

At night I just put my hair in the modified pineapple, tie my edges down with a satin scarf and but a bonnet over my curls. If I want to lay my edges I will add a little edge control before tieing the scarf.

8. Do you use heat on your hair at all?

Oh heat... How I love the way my hair looks when I use you but hate the possibility of the damage. Whenever there is a special event heat is the 1st things a lot of girls reach for. We feel we need should straighten our hair for the joyus occasion. Only to miss our curly hair in a few days. I was guilty of this but now I am embracing my curls.  I try to not use heat. I use it about two or three a year at most. I am trying to cut back to zero or on time.

 9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?

I braid my own hair. Once or twice a year I wear poetic justice braids to give myself a break from styling. I love cornrows If I had someone to braid my hair I would let them. I don't really trust salons or like their prices so I just do it myself.

10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush?

Currently neither. I am team finger detangle. I do love both but I am trying to avoid breakage to retain length.

11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do?

It is normally loose. I tend to protective style when I know I will not be able to take maximum care of my hair for a period of time.

12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it?

As I stated earlier, I dyed some of my hair blonde when I big chopped. I did a little section in the front. It loosened the curls in that section and looked horrible as it grew out. I ended up dying it black and growing it out. It has finally reached the end of my hair shaft.
Another time I decided I wanted a Dominican wash and set. The stylist did a great job. My hair was laid, but little did I know it was also fried. The back of my hair did not revert back well. My 4b curls were now 3b. I was sad. That section is growing out also. Now that I don't really do wash and go's it does not bother me.
As you can see the answer to all my hair tragedies is to grow it out.

13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair?

I get asked this a lot. Here are some of my tips..
  • Take care of your Inner health. Drink water, eat healthy, and take vitamins (I researched and created a Hairfinty dupe).
  • Low maintenance styling
  • Refrain from obsessive heat
  • Trim as needed
  • Examine product labels for harmful ingredients
