1. What's your name and where are you from?
I'm Shenelle Taylor. Born and Raised in the lovely island of Trinidad and Tobago. Now I'm currently in S.Flo 2. What is your hair type? My texture is a mixture of all 4's. My crown is 4c and my front is 4b and the back is 4a
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
Since I moved here my hair wasn't growing thick anymore. It was just growing and not getting any thicker, so eventually I just stopped relaxing my hair to see if that help. About a year and 5 months after I decided to chop everything off. I've been natural for about 4 years now 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Lol everything!!! You have to learn your hair like what your hair likes, how often to moisturizer and when to comb through it! It's defiantly a different monster from relaxed hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I was my hair every weekend and also deep condition. My low porosity hair loves that! 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Every other morning I take down my pineapple and just refresh it with some Shea Moisture hair milk. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Every night I tie it up with a silk cap in a pineapple style to maintain my style. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do use heat on my hair but NOT often. If I twist or braid my hair late in the day then yes I will use heat to dry it before I go to bed.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair maybe once a year not to often. I miss my hair a lot if I do braids or twist in it lol 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I definitely use a width tooth comb on my hair in the shower with conditioner in it. Once it's combed out I use a denman brush 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Protective due over the weekend then during the week it's loose 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Fortunately I haven't had one of those since I was natural. When I first started styling my hair it was a bit difficult but I still end up having a nice curl thank God! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Make sure and deep condition and use oils! Natural hair tend to get dry really quickly due to the curls. It takes a longer time for the natural oils from the roots to get down to the ends. So that extra oil and moisture to the ends of the hair is needed. 14. Where can we find you online? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hi, my name is Appolonia and I was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Trinidad and Tobago 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is a little crazy. It's 3C, 4A, 4B and 4Z in the middle lol.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural for many reasons. In 2012 I had severe hair loss due to Lupus. I decided to transition to natural hair because I didn't think I would be comfortable doing a big chop. After transitioning for a few months I was so eager to see my natural curl pattern (And I had a little mishap while washing my hair lol) so I chopped off all the relaxed ends and rocked my natural hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? After I did my big chop a part of me was unhappy because I felt like I was nothing without long hair. I had to deal with the negativity from society and my family which was really the most challenging part. I was always known as the dark skin girl with long relaxed hair but now I'm known as the beautiful black woman with beautiful kinks! 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep my regimen very simple. I cowash and deep condition my hair every Sunday. If I feel like I have a lot of build up I wash my scalp with apple cider vinegar. Every other Sunday I add oil rinsing to my regimen and that's pretty much it. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I do something called the shake and go method (I think I made this up lol). I literally get up, spray my hair with my moisturizing mist (water, aloe vera juice and coconut oil), shake my hair and leave the house. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I pull my hair up into a pineapple and tie my hair down with my satin scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? The only heat I allow my hair to get is from my deep conditioning process under my dryer. Other than that I don't use any heat in my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I've been natural for a year and for this past year I've braided my hair 3 times. Once for a cute protective style and the other two times I just had big braids under my wigs. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? My fingers lol. I own 1 wide tooth comb. I haven't invested in a Denman brush because my fingers get the job done. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Normally loose but because winter is soon approaching ill be doing more protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? While in the shower during my transitioning stage my hair got really matted. I just said to heck with it and I chopped my hair off. That's the day I became natural lol. So I turned a tragedy into a triumph. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My biggest tip will have to be patience. Love your hair and the journey you're embarking on. It's going to have good days & bad so have a little patience and enjoy the ride. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Kerri. I was born in Trinidad and live in the Spice Isle Grenada. 2. What is your hair type? I would have to say 4C mostly as it varies between the front and the back.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I first went natural in 2009, I had bra strap length locs then I cut it all off and remained natural. I was tired of chemicals and I wanted to get to know my hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Probably styling, as I am not that good with plaiting, so my biggest challenge has to be styling and to a lesser degree product availability. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Co-wash and treatment (usually DIY homemade treatment), and twist. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I try to maintain the same style for the entire week, so on average it's spritzing with my oil mixture and some eco styler gel to tame the frizz. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Apply some moisturizer and tie with a silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I have used heat before but I don't like the waiting game of my hair returning all coily, so I don't intend to again!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Yes I do braids as a protective style, no more than twice a year. Doing this more frequently wreaks havoc on my edges. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I used to use a wide-tooth comb before but was recently gifted a Denman brush and I intend to stick with it. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I am not a big fan of protective styles, and prefer to wear my hair loose. However, I do use protective styles when my hair needs a rest. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OH YES!!! I colored my hair and I don't know if the color was not applied properly or if I did not treat it enough or what exactly, but my hair started breaking terribly. To remedy the situation.... I did BIG CHOP # 2. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Learn your hair and what works for YOU. Develop your own regime and stick to it. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Eartha Wight and I hail from the beautiful twin island of Trinidad and Tobago(more specifically Tobago). 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is 4c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
After finishing university in 2010, I decided to go natural again. This was because my relaxed hair became scorched and damaged by the excessive use of curling and flat irons. In addition to that,my hair care regime was very poor. I hardly took the time to truly take care for my hair because of my busy school life. My hair started breaking badly and so I decided to grow it out instead of cutting it all off. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going back to natural, was the transitioning period. My natural hair is very thick and so it was very hard to style my hair especially with the straight hair at the ends of my new growth. I had to resort to braiding my hair and occasionally weaving it (something I don't like doing a lot, since it affects my hair line). 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regime is quite simple. I wash and deep condition on Sunday mornings. Washing Before I wash, I usually comb my hair into chunky twists, spritz it with water then wash using Vo5 normal shampoo. When I'm finished washing I add argan, jojoba, vitamin E, castor and shea oils to my hair. I also add my Organics olive oil deep conditioner to my hair, before covering it with my plastic cap. I then use my blow dryer by setting it on 'warm', allowing it to blow on the plastic cap on my head for about 5 mins, to allow my hair follicles to open up, so that the oils and conditioner could get to the roots of my hair. I usually keep my plastic cap on for most of the day, before rinsing it out. Rinsing I rinse my hair with warm water at first, and then continue with cold. I do this because, the warm water rinses the stuff out really well and the cold water closes my pores at the end. Drying I dry my hair with an old t-shirt to prevent 'snagging'. I also air dry my hair. My hair usually takes two hours to dry! After my hair is dry, I use African Pride leave-in conditioner on my hair and argan oil on my scalp and then massage (all this time, my hair is still in the chunky twists). I then untwist my chunky twists one at a time and comb through with a wide tooth comb. I then style. On Wednesdays, I usually co-wash using my Organics deep conditioner. I have major shrinkage issues, so I sometimes stretch my hair by plaiting single plaits, that stay in for at least a day! 6. What is your daily morning regimen? My daily morning regime begins with a spritz of water and oils. I then twist out my hair if that's the style I'm rocking for the week. My twist outs usually last a week. Other weekly styles that I rock are two-strand twists and cornrows. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I don't have an elaborate night regime. I put on my satin bonnet and go to sleep. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I do not use flat irons or curling irons on my hair. I only use heat when I use the blow dryer on warm or cool settings to dry my hair out, when I'm in a hurry.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Sometimes I braid or weave my hair, when I want to leave my hair alone. Although I'm extremely conscious about the impact of these protective styles on my hairline, these styles help me to gain growth, which is something that I'm working on. Healthy hair and length retention is very important to me. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide tooth combs work for my hair. It reduces the amount of unnecessary breakage that could be done. If I were to use any brush at all, I would only use a brush if I'm doing a high bun, something I don't do very often. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? At the beginning of my natural hair journey, I mostly wore my hair in two strand twists, but now I'm mostly twisting out because it looks soooo darn good! :D Plus, I get a lot of compliments from guys and gals on my twist outs! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? As with any natural, I too had my fair share of hair tragedies. The one that was most tragic was when I got sick in 2012. My hair was breaking badly and it seemed as though it stopped growing. I was also experiencing very painful and heavy periods and was extremely fatigued during the day. When I finally ended up at the hospital, I was diagnosed as being anemic and also having polycystic ovaries and fibroids. I spent a week at the hospital to get my blood count back up to normal. I was devastated as I read about these varying diseases and their impact on the body. Besides finding out about possible infertility, cancer etc, I also did some research and found out that my anemic condition, was having a direct impact on the condition of my hair...At this point, I decided that I must get well and so I continued doing more and more research on my conditions and the natural ways of going about getting better. Since then, my diet has changed, my polycystic ovaries are gone my fibroids have almost disappeared and my hair is growing again! I feel great and empowered as a black woman to take charge of my life! 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My tip for maintaining healthy or long hair is not so much what you put in your hair, but what you put in you body! More greens, fruits and nuts! Drink more teas and fruit smoothies and less dairy and sugary drinks. Exercise every day and relax when necessary. Most of all, feel good about yourself and be the best you, that you can be! 14.
