1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hi my name is Kami and I am from Baltimore, Maryland. 2. What is your hair type? I would like to say a mix between 3b and 3c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2001 because I wanted my hair to be healthy and long like I saw in old pictures of myself. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? For me it was perfecting my wash and go's. My hair would get so frizzy and not look good at all. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I usually do a wash n go now that I have it down. I cowash and then style. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually just shake my hair and add curls control paste to my middle part and edges then last apply an oil 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I pineapple my hair for 4 day sometimes 5 day results. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes I do. I mostly diffuse my hair when wearing it curly and I also flatiron my hair twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
Nope I have never really been a big fan but maybe in the future I will try braids. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I would say both it depends on what I am using them for. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is loose 95% of the time 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? YES! When I was little, before I got perms, I had small braids in my hair done by my stepmom. When I came home from the weekend I wanted to help my mom take them out; I was struggling because they were so little so I took the kitchen scissors and cut them out the left side of the back of my head lets just say when my mom saw she was not to happy. Her solution was putting my hair in low side ponytails until it grew back 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Moisture! Keeping your hair moisturized and styled with a weekly routine is my biggest tip. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).
1. What's your name and where are you from?
Tangela Jones Aka NaturalRootSista. I am from Jacksonville, Florida, USA. 2. What is your hair type? 3A, 3B
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I have been natural since 2010. After years of lifeless damaged hair it was time for me to make a difference in my life. I began to do research on how to better care for my hair and body, researching the different types of ingredients to determine how they could potentially help or harm me. My findings were remarkable and impacted my life in an amazing way. I gained confidence in my appearance, which gave me the ability to talk confidently and boldly. Through my research and personal experience, I am able to motivate and encourage others. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Researching what the different ingredients were and how they could help or harm your hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep my hair and scalp moisturized daily with rich light oils: grapeseed, avocado, rice brain oil, etc. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz my hair each morning with a bottle of water and a blend of light oils as I am unraveling my two strand twist or bamboo knots. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Pretty much the same as the daytime. The only thing different is I take my time at night and massage my scalp thoroughly. When finished, I twist or I have bamboo knots all over my hair wrapped with a silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I only braid my hair at night after applying my moisturizer or oils. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I did a product review and the product didn’t work on my hair, my hair came out so hard and brittle. I had to do a ACV cleanse to strip all the product out of my hair, then I applied oils onto my scalp. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Don’t be a product junky, find what works for your texture of hair and stick with it. Keep your hair maintained with good oils or moisturizers, also take good care of your scalp, create a morning and nightly routine, and most importantly eat healthy and drink lots of water. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Tanika Thomas, and I'm from Chicago, IL. 2. What is your hair type? I have about three different hair types, ranging from 3B to 3C.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to do the big chop March 7, 2012. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural was the wait. Once I big chopped I expected my hair to be down my back after just a few months (lbvs). This wasn't the case as I had to cut my hair several additional times to get to my natural texture. This is called scab hair. As my natural hair journey continued I began to embrace the process, the struggle, and the joys of having a TWA (teeny weeny afro). Even now that my hair is longer there is still the excitement of knowing that there is more growth to come. The key to dealing with this is to just be patient, and care for your hair. The rest will come naturally. 5. What is your weekly regimen? When my hair was shorter my weekly regiment was a lot different than now. I try to maintain my hairstyles a lot longer than a week, which is easier when I twist my hair, or flat twist it. I usually try to deep condition my tresses at least twice a month now, and use less styling products, and more conditioners, and oils. This has been leaving my hair curly, and soft. There is also a noticeable difference when I wash my hair as well. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Most mornings I simply untwist my hair and fluff. If I style with a wash n go, I typically wet my hair while in the shower, section my hair, and apply coconut oil and a leave in, the next step is to simply give my hair a vigorous shake. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? For my twist-outs I usually twist my hair in about 7-10 flat twists, and put on my satin bonnet. For my wash and go's I've started to use the pineapple technique, and use my satin scarf to wrap around the sides of my hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I recently started to use heat (every once in a while), but I DO NOT re-straighten my hair after the initial straightening. I am also very careful about high temperature. I also use several different heat protectors during the process. Although I was against putting heat in my hair, it allows me to trim my hair, as well as see the progress. In a curly state my hair shrinkage is real. I don't mind shrinkage tho because it only means that my hair porosity is on point.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I've never been that into braids because of my hair texture. Braids tend to make my hair shed. I do braid my natural hair to achieve braid outs tho. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Team Denman brush! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? When my hair was shorter I wore it more loose. Now that it's growing, and I try to keep my styles longer I do tend to do more protective styles. I love to tuck n roll my hair, and twists are always an option. I haven't done any mini twists yet, but this will definitely be an option for the winter. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I've not experienced any hair tragedies while being natural, however, a hair tragedy also brought me to go natural. In 2011 I decided to color my hair a honey blonde color. At first it seemed like my hair color had enhanced my hair, but about a week after I'd colored it, I began to notice massive breakage, and when I washed my hair my texture was abnormal. I continued to apply heat to my hair, and after about two weeks my hair was noticeably damaged. I hid it, and began to rod it and pin it up in the front where it was noticeably shorter. When I would rod my hair pieces would fall out as I rolled my hair up. I was devastated about my hair, but because it grows very fast, all the color was out, and my hair began to grow back in about 9 months. It still continued to break, but not as much as it had been breaking with the color. I hated the fact that I continued to perm it, and straighten it. After several weeks of researching natural hair, I decided to big chop. This is when my natural hair journey began. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? First and foremost it is important not to stress out over hair length, and texture. Secondly, use products that benefit the need of your hair. Thirdly, it is important to use less shampoo, and more conditioner, and co wash. I personally only shampoo once a month to clarify. I use only products that don't have silicone, parabeans, and mineral oil in them. Also invest in a satin bonnet, and/or a satin pillow case. And last but not least be patient with all stages of your journey. Learn to love your hair. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Michelle from New York! 2. What is your hair type? I have a combination of hair types on my head but I’m predominantly a 3C. I have a sprinkle of 4A at the crown. My sides and at the base of my neck is about a 3B.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I’ve been natural for well over 10 years. I stopped counting at 10. I decided to embrace my natural hair after reading Cathy Howse’s book, Thinning Edges. I started transitioning a couple of years before the book came out just contemplating what it would be like but after reading the book, that sealed the deal. I got scared that I’d lose my edges! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I didn’t have much difficulty with the transitioning phase because I would go to the salon and have them blow my roots straight. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it because that’s a lot of heat (every week). I just didn’t know what else to do at the time. Keeping my new growth blended with my relaxed hair was critical to preventing breakage. I did get some breakage from all the blow drying but I suspect it was much less than if I had just tried to style those two textures of hair simultaneously. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly hair regimen is like a religious ceremony LOL! Here ya go...
6. What is your daily morning regimen? My morning regimen is pretty simple (way faster than when my hair was relaxed!). Takes me less than 5 minutes. I usually just let the shower mist my hair a little and I fluff and go. I don’t usually find the need to re-moisturize/seal my hair daily but I will do it at night prophylactically. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night, I apply a water based daily conditioner into my hair and seal it with Jojoba Oil while also massaging the oil into my scalp using my electric scalp massager. Then, I either put my hair up in a pineapple, a loose bun or a french twist leaving the ends out. It depends on the style I’m going for the next day. I then either cover my hair with a satin scarf or bonnet. Last off, I always sleep on a satin pillow case but I wear the bonnet/scarf because my apartment is hot and leaches the moisture from my hair. Plus, I tend to find myself somehow some way over on my husband’s cotton pillowcase :-) 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? 1-2x a year I will flat iron my hair but never more than that. During that time I will use a dryer in conjunction with the flat iron. Other than that, I don’t even diffuse my curls. I just let them air dry.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I only braid my hair in 12 braids for a braid out. I don’t wear cornrows or other small braids that could potentially pull at the roots of my hair. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I finger detangle but in the shower I will pull out my wide tooth, seamless comb to assist with detangling but I predominantly finger detangle. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? In the summer, I do a lot of wash and go’s and only protective style about 20% of the time. The rest of the year, I protective style 95% of the time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? My first and last hair tragedy occurred when I was relaxed. I went to a salon and streak dyed it blonde. Well, no matter how much deep conditioning I did, it broke off severely at the crown. I had no choice but let it run it’s course. My fine strands can not tolerate peroxide. Fortunately, when the new hair appeared it grew in without any problems. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Having an adequate balance of moisture and protein is critical. I see many people tout the importance of moisture but protein is just as important regardless to your hair type. Now, different people will have different requirements for protein (i.e. type of protein and frequency of use) but everyone can benefit from protein treatments as well as eating a healthy diet rich in protein. 14. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Candice, I'm from Georgia 2. What is your hair type? My hair is in the 3 category but it's sometimes hard to determine because it's different throughout, so I have to say some areas are 3b but for the most part, it's around 3c and coarser at the crown.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I began transitioning in 2012, and ultimately did a big chop in May of 2013 (due to heat damage). I decided to go natural initially because I wanted my curls back and I wanted my hair to be stronger and free from chemicals. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing, I would have to say has been dealing with single strand knots, I hate those things! 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen depends on the style I'm wearing, but I keep it simple. If I'm wearing a wash 'n go, I'll usually co-wash and condition weekly. If I'm wearing a protective style, it's different because sometimes I go a little longer without washing. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? If I'm wearing a wash & go, I will spritz my hair with a water and oil mix (usually coconut oil), to refresh the style. If it's a braidout/twistout, I'll just unravel the style and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? This again, depends on the style. If I'm wearing a wash & go I'll spritz my hair with water and oil and "pineapple" it up and apply my satin scarf. If it's a braidout/twistout I will usually spritz with water and oil and re-braid/re-twist for the next morning. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Since my big chop in May of 2013 I have used heat twice..once in October 2013, and second in April 2014. I like to go at least 6 months without heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? Yes I do. Since my big chop in May 2013 I've done box braids during the "twa" stage and I also did yarn braids a month before my one year anniversary of my big chop. And I recently did box braids again this past summer, 2014. Yarn braids are my favorite though, because the yarn is light and moisture retention is easy with them. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I currently use a wide toothed comb, but I've heard many positive things about the Denman brush so I plan to try one soon. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It depends. I usually like to do protective styles when the seasons change, like cooler months. So most of the time my hair is loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Yes. The tragedy that ultimately led me to big chop in May 2013. I had been transitioning well and I ended up using a straightening tool I wasn't familiar with. There were no heat settings and my hair was burned. I fixed this by doing my big chop, that was the best thing I could have ever done for my hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Make water your main beverage. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
I'm Nandi; born and raised in Sweden with a mother from Germany and a South African father. 2. What is your hair type? I'm not a big fan of hair typing, but I think I'm a 3b or 3c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I've been natural most of my life; I had a short-lived experience with relaxer at the age of 18. But since I had less knowledge of how to care for my relaxed hair than my natural hair I quickly returned to my natural hair. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I think the most challenging think about natural hair is figuring out what works for you and what doesn't. A lot if trial and error is involved in this. It's what started my blogging journey, trying to figure out my own hair and paying it forward to others. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I usually wash my hair once a week, depending on how my hair feels I'll use a cleanser or ACV and then a conditioner or deep conditioner. I usually wear a wash n go with only leave-in conditioner for the first couple of days after washing and then as the week progresses I refresh with water and leave in. As my hair frizzes up I usually do some kind of style using a gel to keep the hair in place. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? In the morning I shake my hair out, spritz with water and add leave in conditioner if needed. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Right now I just wear a pineapple or a bun to bed. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? In winter I diffuse my hair to cut down on drying time. The last time I flat ironed my hair was in the spring of 2013, I usually don't flat iron my hair more than once a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I did wear Marley braids twice this year, but I don't really wear hair extensions regularly. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Over the last year I've worn my hair out a lot and love it! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Can't think if anything... Nope. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Don't stress about length! Focus on healthy hair and it will grow. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My Name is Stacie Daye aka MamaDaye I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. 2. What is your hair type? I’m a mixture of hair types, I have 3B, 3C and 4A in my head of Curls.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
That’s a loaded question but I went natural May 2010 on Mother's Day. I was diagnosed with a Rare Spinal Syndrome CES and going natural and putting my focus on Learning about natural hair helped to remove myself from depression and it gave me purpose in my life. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing for me was learning this new person. All my independent life all I knew was how to take care of my relaxed hair. My new hair couldn’t function with my old methods SO I had to learn what she liked and how often she needed that DC. It took some getting used to but I would not change it for the world. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I’m rocking the WNG’s (Wash N Go’s) right now so I wash my hair, Dc, use Aloe Vera and style my WNG for a 3 day stretch and I start the WNG process all over again. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually don’t do a lot in the morning. I will put a little oil on my hair if it needs it but for the most part, I shake and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? This is usually when I do my hair so I refresh my curls or twist depending on whether or not I’m rocking a protective style. Every other day I spray oil on before bed. If my hair feels extra dry I do the green house effect: I put 2 plastic shower caps on and then 2 head rags to help bring moisture back to my hair and scalp. I love the Greenhouse effect with my WNG. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Rarely but yes. I would say about 2-3 times out the year I blow dry my hair and 1-2 a year I flat iron it. When I do I make sure to do a Protein treatment and use Heat protectants to ensure I have not caused Heat Damage to my curls.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I don’t braid my hair but I do braid-outs and twist-outs. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Oh how I love me My Denman Brush and my Tangle Teezers. They get my unruly hair under control and I love it. I rarely use the wide tooth comb. If I use a wide tooth comb, it’s probably because one of my daughters took my brushes lol. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Right now I do a little of both. One week I rock a protective style the next week I unravel and rock it loose and free. I love the versatility of natural hair. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? OMG Yes I had my hair dyed and it just killed my hair. When I was 1½ years into my journey I had it dyed copper. It dried my hair out and so I would over moisturize my hair to the point that I moisture overloaded my hair leaving it with limp, undefined curls. To try and fix my drama I over proteinated my hair and got protein overload. Can you see a pattern here? I couldn't get the right balance between protein and moisture and it took about 6 months to balance my hair back to its proper state. I chopped about 3-4 inches of my damaged hair and learned to balance moisture and protein to obtain healthy hair. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Listen to your hair… yes, it can talk. Take the time to really learn your hair know it inside and out. Educate yourself about how to maintain moisture and strength to your hair. Drink plenty of water to keep your hair and body hydrated. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Dominique Payne and I’m from Memphis, Tennessee. 2. What is your hair type? I have what you call “corkscrew” curls. My curl pattern is 3b/3c according to NaturallyCurly’s website.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I started wearing my hair natural back in September 2011. That decision stemmed from the heat damage that I had at the time. Back then, I never really paid much attention to what I was doing to my hair health-wise. I would flat iron or curl my hair every other day, which eventually led to me having about 4 inches of heat-damaged ends. One day I woke up and decided to stop butchering my hair. My decision has paid off since then as I no longer battle with heat damage. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I remember having such a hard time trying to learn about all the different chemicals and ingredients that go into a product, and knowing how to distinguish between “good” ingredients versus “bad” ingredients. The truth is, there’s so much information on the chemical makeup of hair care products that it can sometimes get overwhelming. My simple solution starting out was to stray away from the main harsh detergents such as sulfates, parabens and silicones. Once I finally got into the groove of actually reading ingredients lists, it got a bit easier and I started incorporating my knowledge of ingredients into my purchasing decisions. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My regimen tends to change overtime. My current weekly routine is to cleanse and condition my hair on the weekends. To cleanse I use DevaCurl No-Poo and to condition I opt more towards DevaCurl One Condition, although I do use other conditioners from time to time. I do deep treatments every other week. One of my favorite moisturizers to use is Shea Moisture’s Thickening Growth Milk. I also like to style with a light defining gel by DevaCurl. I air-dry my hair throughout the day, which takes around 4 to 5 hours… My hair holds a lot of water (lol). Throughout the week, I apply water and oil as needed to prolong my wash and go. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Five days out of the week, I’m usually in a rush. So I have to be quick, especially since I’m not a morning person at all (lol). All I do is take my hair down from the pineapple, spritz a little water (if needed) and shake my hair. I like to call it my fluff n’ go! Literally, I’m done in less than 2 minutes! 7. What is your daily night time regimen? My night time regimen is even more simple than my morning regimen. I just put my hair up in a high ponytail at the top of my head (called a pineapple) and sleep on a satin pillowcase to prevent moisture loss and frizz. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No heat for me! In fact, the only heat that I will allow is from the sun or my hair dryer bonnet, which I only use for deep treatments. Both are indirect sources of heat. After my past experience with battling heat damage, I am all about protecting my hair from direct heat.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I very rarely braid my hair. If anything, I’ll do French braids or “Pocahontas” braids when I’m feeling cutesy or bored. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Neither. I prefer my fingers. Finger-detangling is the best! 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Occasionally, I wear my hair up in a bun. But my hair is down 99.99% of the time because I like my hair BIG and wild! “Curly hair don’t care” is my motto! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I wouldn’t necessarily call this a hair tragedy. However, a few months ago I tried a protein treatment, which completely backfired on me. Afterwards, it left my hair feeling very stiff and hard for days. Once I did a deep moisture treatment, my hair bounced back to normal. That’s the beauty of trial and error with natural hair. Needless to say, I quickly learned my hair doesn’t require protein treatments. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? There’s so many tips on maintaining healthy hair and even more on how to maintain length. You just have to choose which ones work best for you or even create your own tips. What is more important to me is health. As long as your hair is healthy, it will grow. My biggest piece of advice would be to listen to your hair. It will tell you its needs, its wants and what it doesn’t like. Focus on YOUR hair. Don’t try to mimic others without reason. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
Hi! I’m Courtney and I currently live just outside Atlanta, GA. 2. What is your hair type? My hair type is actually mixed ranging from loose waves in some parts to tightly curled in others. It is predominantly 3b/3c when defined.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I transitioned to natural hair for about eight months before having the big chop done in June 2009. I returned natural for several reasons, with the most pressing being my curiosity about my natural texture. Though I achieved long, relaxed hair with little maintenance or effort, I suffered from recurring dandruff and split ends more than I liked. I didn’t understand how to care for my hair, and this became increasingly clear when I went to college. I wanted to understand my hair and how to take care of it without the nuisance of having to relax, blow dry and straighten every month. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging part of going natural was not having a strong support system. I had encouragement from friends, but not much from family, and no stylist. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly routine begins with a sulfate-free wash followed by a deep conditioning or hot oil treatment, then an apple cider vinegar rinse. I allow my hair to air dry in four twists after it’s been saturated with a leave-in conditioner. Once it’s 80-100% dry, I will unravel the twists, apply a cream or heavy moisturizer and style. If I’m lazy or planning for a busy week, I’ll set my hair in “many” twists (not too tiny or too big), and wear it that way for the week. My go-to style is a chunky twist out. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Each morning I lightly mist my hair with water or aloe vera juice, fluff and pin whatever pieces can’t be easily tamed. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I simply cover my hair with a satin bonnet. I will retwist or reset my hair about once a week. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I use heat sparingly. Occasionally I will tension blow dry my hair for a bigger, fluffier twist out. I’m currently on a flat ironing “strike” as part of a healthy hair challenge, so I’m abstaining from having my hair ceramic pressed for six months. I usually have my hair pressed by a licensed stylist twice a year.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? No, I don’t braid my hair myself, but I try to have it braided by a professional (an experienced braider) at least once a year. Box braids, individual braids and Senegalese twists are my favorite styles. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb, please. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It’s normally loose. In the past, I tried to alternate between loose and protective styles. I’m thinking of using that 50/50 philosophy again. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I’ve had two tragedies, one while relaxed and the other about a year ago. I experienced what I believe are midshaft splits from improper use of the Tangle Teezer. As a result, I’ve incorporated the occasional protein treatment or ayurvedic practice (amla mask/rinse) as well as weekly deep conditioning to strengthen and repair my hair rather than cutting it. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Be patient. Care for and style your hair with patience. How you treat your hair is just as important as what you use on it. If you love it, it will grow and be healthy. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is LaShon Renee and I’m from Los Angeles, CA. 2. What is your hair type? My hair is a mixture of 3b, 3c, and 4a
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I decided to go natural about 3 years ago after seeing the movie “Good Hair”. I was shocked to learn about the chemicals in relaxers so I stopped perming my hair shortly thereafter. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging part was learning what to do! I didn’t know what it meant to be natural, how to style my own hair, or even what my real hair texture was. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen is to wash and deep condition. I also incorporate hot oil and protein treatments once or twice a month. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Daily I spritz my hair with water or a water based leave-in conditioner and then I seal with oil. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night I tie up my hair with a scarf or satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I use heat to straighten my hair about twice a year and I blow dry my hair if the style calls for it.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year? I braid my hair every summer. It’s so hot and humid in the summer the last thing I want to be bothered with is hair so I always look forward to my summer of braids. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I’m all about the Tangle Teezer and a good wide-toothed comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is normally loose but I have not retained as much length as I was hoping for last year so I will be incorporating more protective styles. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I haven’t had what I call a hair tragedy but I have had some hair setbacks. I’ve learned from each setback which has helped me and has helped me help others. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Maintaining healthy hair takes time and patience so it is important to work on developing a regimen that works for your hair and to avoid comparing your hair to others. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc). I blog about all things natural hair! Feel free to connect with me online.
