1. What's your name and where are you from?
Tangela Jones Aka NaturalRootSista. I am from Jacksonville, Florida, USA. 2. What is your hair type? 3A, 3B
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I have been natural since 2010. After years of lifeless damaged hair it was time for me to make a difference in my life. I began to do research on how to better care for my hair and body, researching the different types of ingredients to determine how they could potentially help or harm me. My findings were remarkable and impacted my life in an amazing way. I gained confidence in my appearance, which gave me the ability to talk confidently and boldly. Through my research and personal experience, I am able to motivate and encourage others. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Researching what the different ingredients were and how they could help or harm your hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I keep my hair and scalp moisturized daily with rich light oils: grapeseed, avocado, rice brain oil, etc. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I spritz my hair each morning with a bottle of water and a blend of light oils as I am unraveling my two strand twist or bamboo knots. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Pretty much the same as the daytime. The only thing different is I take my time at night and massage my scalp thoroughly. When finished, I twist or I have bamboo knots all over my hair wrapped with a silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I only braid my hair at night after applying my moisturizer or oils. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I did a product review and the product didn’t work on my hair, my hair came out so hard and brittle. I had to do a ACV cleanse to strip all the product out of my hair, then I applied oils onto my scalp. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Don’t be a product junky, find what works for your texture of hair and stick with it. Keep your hair maintained with good oils or moisturizers, also take good care of your scalp, create a morning and nightly routine, and most importantly eat healthy and drink lots of water. 14. 3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in 2012 and I was inspired by my mom who was also natural. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The only challenging thing for me was finding products that worked for my hair because not all products work well with multi-textured hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I usually protective style with twists. Depending on what my style is I will wear it from 1-3 weeks then co wash or clarify. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I just take my hair down and go. I really don't do a lot to my hair. Less is more. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? I wear my hair in big twists at night under a satin bonnet and in the morning I take them down. I do this no matter what styler I have in my hair. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? No

1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Chanell; I come from Bowie, Maryland but I currently live in Orlando, FL. I'm a blogger who has an interest in Natural Hair and Healthy Living. 2. What is your hair type? I'm not into hair typing as a way to classify my strands, but for all intents and purposes, I'm a type 4 girl. [4A/4B]
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My last relaxer was in 2010; I transitioned for two years and cut my final relaxed ends off in July of 2012. I decided to go natural because I started to take my health seriously; I started paying attention to what I put into my body and on my skin. Eating healthier, reading ingredients, diet and exercise became important to me after being educated about certain lifestyle choices. One day I thought, here I am making lifestyle changes but still putting chemicals on my scalp ever 6-8 weeks. It seemed contradictory to my new lifestyle choices, so I decided to stop. Also, around this time, I'd begun seeing many women without relaxers, who had big beautiful halos around their heads. I decided to take the plunge! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing about going natural for me was being patient with myself as I learned my hair. Learning my hair was a necessary part of the "going natural" process because I planned to be the caretaker of my hair. My strategy was to research and learn through trial and error. Yes, this may mean a bad hair day or two :-), but take it all in your stride. 5. What is your weekly regimen? At the beginning of most weeks, I start out with wash day (oil pre-poo, scalp cleanse, deep condition (alternate between regular DC or protein DC) and end the day by setting my hair for the week, or the first half of the week. The morning after wash day, I usually remove either braids, twists, or rollers with a light oil on my fingers. I then style my hair in a 'get up and go' style, such as a high or low puff, low puff with a bang, bun, twist/braid out, cinnabun, tuck and roll styles, etc. If it's midweek and my hair is feeling dry, I re-moisturize (using the L.O.C method), reset my hair and do the aforementioned all over again. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Because I wear 'get up and go' styles, my morning regimen is simple: Remove my scarf (if I forget to sleep in one, I always sleep on my satin pillowcase) and go. If it's the first day of wearing my braid/twist out I remove the braids/twists with oil, separate the hair, but not too much so as to preserve the texture, and use my afro pick to fluff my roots. If it's the case that I'm wearing a 'protective style I just get up and go, literally. Those are my best styles. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? The only regular night regimen I have is to wear a silk or satin scarf at night; if a scarf is unavailable, I have a satin pillowcase. If ever I'm going out of town, I'm sure to pack it. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Throughout my transition and even when I first went natural, I never used heat. Recently, I've decided to try having my hair blown out. I have this done by a professional, although it's completely easy to do at home, if you have the time and patience; I do not. I tried once on my own, and didn't get through the first section before I broke the dryer comb. I have this done once a month or so. The woman only charges me $10 because I arrive with my hair washed and conditioned. Whenever I get a trim (once every 3 months), I have it blown out and trimmed. I love this style! It reminds me of the fierce 70-esque afros. Initially I was overwhelmed at how much hair I had but as I got used to the look I began to love it. To maintain the style, add a bit of shea butter and few fat twists or braids to my hair at night.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I have not worn braids since I was a teen and the last time I wore Senegalese twists was in 2004. I am not against these types of styles, I've just been enjoying my hair. I've been intrigued by the look of fat Marley twists and I'm entertaining the idea of having them installed. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both. I use the denman brush after I've washed, conditioned, and moisturized my hair and I am just about to set a style. Here's a great explanation of how I use the brush. I use the wide-tooth comb to lightly remove shed hair, but only while conditioner is in my hair. In both instances, the hair is wet. I never use any comb or brush on dry hair. Lastly, I cannot express the importance of cleaning your combs, brushes, or both on a weekly basis. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? For my two year transition, I exclusively wore protective styles (with the ends hidden) as a participant in a protective style challenge. After I cut my remaining relaxed ends, I wore my hair loose for about one month, then I came to my senses as a Keep It Simple Sista, and decided to do a combination of loose and protective styles. This year, I shaved the sides and back of my hair; as a result, some protective styles have become obsolete for me. I do wear what I like to call semi-protective styles, which are styles that do not keep the ends hidden but require little to no manipulation for 2-3 days at a time. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I had a hair tragedy earlier this year; in a span of 5 days, I had streaks, and about 5 different semi-permanent colors. In July, I was on a trip to my home town and decided to get my hair colored by my sister's stylist. Her color always looks great so I trusted that I'd have good luck too. I was so excited! I explained that I wanted something in the bronze, gold family and that I wanted something subtle; I ended up with the complete opposite. By the time she finished my streaks, and added a few other colors for dimension, I was not happy. When I got home and saw my hair in better light, I was mortified. I had orange and blond streaks. I immediately contacted her and told her that I needed her to re-do my hair. I explained that I work in a professional office and I could not go to work with my hair like that. She was very accommodating and the next morning she came in and put a color over the color that I had. It turned out to be entirely too bright, but did not look much different than the previous day. I looked like a midlife crisis had exploded on my head. When I arrived back in Orlando, I called a stylist here and explained the situation to her; luckily she could fit me in, but I had to go to work with my tragic hair. When my boss saw me, she said, "Your hair, it's orange". I explained that it wasn't what I requested, but what I ended up with. The following afternoon, I got a dark brown color on top of the orange hair, which toned the color down significantly. Moral of the story; you CAN recover from anything ;) 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? My tips are mostly for healthy hair, which I believe leads to long hair, if that's what you are aiming for. Be patient while learning your hair, care for it consistently, and finally ensure that your hair is properly moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

It was also interesting finding the right products to "play nice" with my newly curly hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I am a wash and go girl because I work out a lot. So usually I cowash 2 to 3 times per week and spray with water to keep hydrated daily. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Typically it's loose. With my position it would be difficult for me to do a protective styling. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I have been lucky not to have any catastrophes. My only thing was I let my hair go without a trim for about a year so I had the worst case of split ends. I had to trim more frequently to get it all under control. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Trim and deep condition your hair on a regular basis. Take vitamins and drink lots and lots of water. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural in the Spring of 2006. I was pregnant with my daughter and wanted to lay off the chemicals. Miss Jessie's brand was beginning to spread and peaked my interest, so I started my transition. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Finding products that suited the multiple textures on my head as well as products that didn't aggravate my scalp. I discovered later on that I was protein sensitive and needed only minimal light-weight products. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My scalp is sensitive so I cannot tolerate a lot of build up. I wash & condition my hair every 3 days unless it's in a protective style. I can extend protective styles (if I didn't use product) for up to 1 week before washing and re-styling. 2-3 times per month I use deep conditioning treatments and I am sure to keep my hair protected to retain length. My regimen is very simple. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depends on the day and where I am in my styling process, it always varies depending on what kind of style I'm going for. 7. 1. What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Tabitha Banks aka Beautiful Soul, and I am from Miami, Florida, and I am currently loving life in the ATL (Georgia)!! 2. What is your hair type? I typically don’t hair type because I have so many different textures, but I’ve been told that I have a mixture of 3c, 4a, 4b, and 4c.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
November 2011 is when I big chopped and I did it because my hair was thinning terribly and I had a large bald spot on the crown of my head. Once I noticed that the spot was beginning to spread to the back of my head, and with the encouragement of my dermatologist I went natural and it’s been one beautiful ride. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing was learning how to properly moisturize my natural hair. 5. What is your weekly regimen? My weekly regimen consists of shampooing, deep conditioning, and moisturizing my hair. Here’s a link to my video that shows in detail of my wash day http://youtu.be/Jyyu28hsrrg 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depending on how I styled my hair, which is probably in some sort of twist out style (braid, twist & Curl or flat twists), I just put a little oil on my hands, remove the twists or braids and fluff. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? If I’m wearing twists or braids, I will retwist or braid my hair every night. If, I am wearing a fro, I just spritz with a refresher spray and seal in that moisture with oil, and I always protect my hair by covering up with a satin bonnet. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Very rarely. I’ve been natural for 2½ years and have blow dried twice and flat ironed only once and I have no desire to every add heat to my hair again.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
No, I don’t braid my hair. I put kinky twists in my hair once, just to see if it was something that I could on my own. I was able to do it and now the thrill is gone. 10 Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Wide-tooth comb. I am not a fan of the Denman brush. It rips out more than necessary. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? My hair is loose 98% of the time. However, in the very near future, I will start to protective style with wigs a lot more. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? I haven’t had any major tragedies, but I did have a hair scare…. When I died my hair to black using a Garnier product, it completely dried my hair out. After several failed attempts to get the moisture back into my hair, I was afraid that I was going to bc again, but after using some of my favorite products, I was able to bring my hair back to life. Here’s a video to my scare:
13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair?
I focus on maintaining healthy hair instead of length. My biggest tip would be to learn how to properly moisturize your hair. Making sure you maintain the proper moisture in your hair will lead to hair growth. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc)

3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I big chopped on 24-Feb-13. I was going through a lot and just wanted something different so I went for it. In addition, the weekend before I had seen a lot of girl rocking curls which is what convinced me that I could do it. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The most challenging thing is learning to take care of your hair all over again since it now requires more moisture and work. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wouldn’t say I have a weekly regimen but I make sure to keep my hair moisturized. When I wash it, I make sure I seal it to help retain moisture. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? I usually just spray my hair with curl refresher or braid spray and some oil if needed. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? At night time I use a heavier moisturizer to moisturize my hair. If i'm wearing it out I will braid or twist it to keep my length or section it, then throw a silk sleeping cap on. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? I rarely use heat on my hair. I’ve had my hair straightened once. The only other time I use heat is at the hair dresser's when I go under for my deep condition. Outside of that I keep heat away from my hair.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I braid my hair maybe once a month without extensions. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? I use a wide-tooth comb. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? It’s a mixture. I usually wear my hair in twists or braids for a week or two then wear it as a twist out. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? Well, my hair started to lock when I had comb coils in after only a week. Thought I was going to cute some section. After drenching my hair with a detangler I was able to get then completely loose then did a deep treatment. 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? To maintain healthy hair you have to make sure you keep your hair moisturized. Without moisture your hair is bound to have breakage issues. 14. Where can we find you online? My name is JayQuan Nance (JayyPinkk) and I'm from Tallahassee, Florida. 2. What is your hair type? 4c
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
I went natural the day of my senior prom; April 25, 2012. I had been thinking about it and while getting my hair done my hair dresser helped push me into my decision and "snip snip"! Now I did grow my hair for a year in plaits and twist. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? I think laziness, like not wanting to protect it every night or re twist it or maybe finding styles that fit you. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Co-wash, plait, hair dry, L.O.C. method, and style. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Undone the twist/plaits, shake, pick, and go. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Chunky twist to stretch my hair and my silk scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Probably once a month sometimes twice.
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I don't do braids but I love doing twists. I normally do them like 2-3 times a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Both, my hair is SUPER thick. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? I think it's a good mix of both; I'll normally do 2-3 months protected and 1 month loose. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? When I first went natural I made it to 6 months and decided to flat iron my hair. I think it was fine at first but I just kept straightening it and I created heat damage and so came BC número two. I was sad at first but I just twisted up until I started missing Veronica (my hair). 13. What's your biggest tip for maintaining healthy or long hair? Take care of your ends! Clip them and keep them moisturized. 14. Where can we find you online? (blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc).

I began my natural journey May 14, 2012. It was spiritual. 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? The big chop process. I absolutely hated my short hair. I didn’t start to enjoy it until 9mths. 5. What is your weekly regimen? Co-wash every week, condition, leave-in, oil and styler 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Depends on the style, mostly a puff for everyday use, maybe oil it every other day 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Retwist or plait, sometimes I use a refresher or styler if needed. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Yes, I blow dry sometimes.

I'm a loose style kind of girl, even though lately I've been doing protective styling. 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? How did you recover from it? 1. What's your name and where are you from?
Britany B. Miami, Florida. 2. What is your hair type? Medium/Fine strands, Medium/Heavy density. Type 4 Kinky, Curly, Coily.
3. When did you go natural and what made you do it?
My last relaxer was in August 2010. After 13 months of transitioning to natural, I “Big Chopped” in September 2011. What finally pushed me over the edge was just asking myself why not? Am I that ashamed to rock my own, textured hair, or love & take care of my own hair without the use of harmful chemicals? I tapped into the world of natural hair on Youtube and after seeing girls like me with shoulder length, relaxed, type 4 hair, cut and grow their natural hair to waist length, I was ready. I had never seen anyone with WAIST LENGTH/type 4 hair, yet it was all over Youtube! I soaked up every piece of knowledge, and realized how harmful chemical relaxers were anyway! God made no mistake when he made me, so I was ready to embrace the hair I was born with and grow it to the max! 4. What was the most challenging thing about going natural? Probably the beginning stages of my natural hair not being as long as I wanted, and that 1st, subconscious feeling before the “big reveal” and what people will think when they see me wear my natural hair for the first time. I hear people all the time say, it’s just hair, why are Black women making such a big deal?” It’s more than just hair…it’s a huge invisible bridge of self-doubt being crossed into true confidence. You really start to love every part of being a Black woman and appreciate how God intended for us to look. At least I do. Lol. I love my hair for what it is, does and what it doesn’t do and going natural definitely helped push that into the forefront. 5. What is your weekly regimen? I wash with a sulfate free shampoo once a week, or cowash with Tresemme Naturals if I haven’t used much gunky product like gel. I always opt for nature first before any “products.” So my water/vegetable glycerin mix for moisture and my Jasmine Mimosa Hair & Body Buttercream (www.theblackhairguru.com) as a sealant to lock in the moisture is what I typically reach for. My hair also likes Kinky Curly Knot Today straight out of the shower on T-shirt dried hair, Cantu Argan Oil Leave In, or Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I moisturize & seal daily to keep my hair supple and moisturized. When needed, I deep condition with an avocado/honey/olive oil mix for protein. 6. What is your daily morning regimen? Take off satin scarf/bonnet, untwist/unbraid & style, bun or puff. 7. What is your daily night time regimen? Moisturize & Seal in sections, braid or twist, occasional Castor Oil on scalp, bonnet or satin scarf. 8. Do you use heat on your hair at all? Rarely. The few times I actually have flat ironed (at home), the humidity ate my hair the same day. Lol. It’s not worth it to me to spend a million hours straightening my hair only for it to poof back out into the fro it wants to be. Plus, I don’t want to have to keep worrying about frizz all day. Keeping it straight is too much maintenance honestly. Lol! The one time I had the Dominicans blow my hair out was nice and it lasted, but they use A LOT of heat and I do not want to risk heat damage. The most I’d do, if anything, is tension blow dry my hair on a warm setting for a super cute, stretched, twist out or bantu knot out; with a heat protectant, of course!
9. Do you braid your hair? If so, how often do you do so in a year?
I alternate between twist outs and braid outs often, so I’d say 2 to 3 times a week. But if you’re talking about braid extensions, probably once or twice a year. 10. Wide-tooth comb or Denman brush? Well both of them are great and they both serve different purposes. However I’d go with the Denman brush. My fingers usually act as my “wide tooth comb” so I can feel for tangles and what not. After finger detangling I’d use a modified Denman (2 rows of teeth removed) to further smooth my hair out. But I don’t Denman too much…too much unnecessary manipulation. 11. Is your hair normally loose or in a protective-do? Both. Lol. I always try to tuck my hair away so it can just chill and get to waist length. Lol…but I love my ‘fros too! I feel prettiest when my hair is big and in a stretched flat twist out! 12. Have you ever had a hair tragedy? What was it? How did you recover from it? No. My hair, even while relaxed has always been pretty healthy. But hmmm…..As a matter of fact, now that I think about it…there was this one time in college when I had some rope twists in. I left them in for a month, thinking I was doing the right thing by giving my hair a break. Not. Lol. When I took them out I had a TON of dry, shed hair.
